Did some more work on the main gun deck details: shot racks, couple of small hatches and I nailed the coamings for the big deck openings.
First set of shot racks were done with a different bit which burned the wood - thus the black colour. Luckily I found a different one which didn't and I used that one. The distance between "holes" is 5mm and this gave me about same number as in the plans.

    Hello all,

Thank you for the great comments.

Here are some more progress pictures. Still not done yet but closer now.

I am glad now that my indexing attachment can be set to any of the 360 degrees of a circle as the upper drumhead has 14 holes for bars. Which means almost 26 degrees but not exactly, so 10 angles were 26 and 4 - 25 degrees. I can't find the closer ones anymore.

Un the second picture the black ebony ring with identations is a replacement of the metallic piece used to block the pawls. It was inserted in the fixed part of the capstan - biggest disk in the right of the third picture.

Then I have to make the fore capstan...

    Hello all,
Thanks for the comments and the interest in my build.

Here is a small update with the progress on the main capstan.
Not completed yet but so far I've done the spindle from a square piece of boxwood on the lathe. Next I milled it for 10 whelps on lower deck and on the middle deck 12.
The lower deck drum has 12 square holes for the bars. Initially I wanted to do it from two pieces each milled half of the bar thickness as you can see in figure 7. The problem was that the two halves didn't mach so I was unable to align the square holes. So I did the next best thing - cut the notches deeper only on the lower half then glued the upper part which was a simple disk.
The groove on the top of the drum was fitted with an ebony ring milled to fit and glued in place.
This is all I've managed to do so far but I'll continue tomorrow.

    Thank you
    Alexandru

Thanks to every one with their kind words. It seems that I have a small up date on Montagu gun deck. I took off the planking I installed the first time, or was it the second time but instead of installing just enough for the gun's, ran it all the way over to the hatch ways and left one side unplanked. The deck planking is silver maple and boy is it white and every thing has been pegged but have not done any kind of stain on it. Thinking about toning it down but not sure of the how or with what so if you have any ideal's please let me know. Have been expermenting but not happy with what am coming up with yet. Do know that Frolick used maplewood on his deck of his  La Belle Poule, and looks real nice. Seems it is a honey oak color and doesn't blind you when you look at it, but havn't found out what type of maple and if you know what type maple and  stain please let me know. The cannons are just sitting on the deck till other items get done and will be reloacted to a safer place once I start working on them again. Any way folks Merry Christmas and may you get that tool or kit that you been wanting for the past year.

Hi Remco. Thank you very much sir. Am glad you like the cannons sir and seems that your statement is just a little modest but I do thank you. Here are some more photo's of the gun deck with a few more details. Am not sure if I will leave the curve planking which is due to the curve of were the back of the cannon truck's land. May just plank one side for cannon's and leave the other side alone. Reason is that I just don't want to cover all of the detail up and am sort of stuck on the do I want to or not decision. Gary

Am very interested in how the good folks of the site make different item's in metal and yours are high on my list. Thank you sir. Gary

    Hello,
currently I make the gunports lids.
The gunports of La Créole were closed with divided lids, which had an opening for the gun barrel in the middle.

    To be continued ...

I have completed and installed the beam arms.  Because of their length, these were made scale 10" thick.  The deck camber was shaped added after they were fit to the beam.  This beam set is just aft of the dead flat, the widest part of the ship.  In order to install the assembly, only one beam arm could be glued in place off the ship.  The other one was temporarily glued and then drilled for the three bolts.  The glue was de-bonded with isopropanol and the bolt holes were used to align the beam arm during the rest of  the assembly's fabrication.

The hanging knees are now located on the aft faces of the beams.  The pictures were taken before final sanding (I was running out of daylight).  The next project is the upper well.
