vitorcampos reacted to OldChur in HMS Winchelsea 1764 by OldChur - 1:48
Here are a few pictures of what came in the mail. That is my king size bed. This thing is huge which will be great for my arthritic hands:) What an excellent kit. The laser cuts on this thing are very precise. They are thin and the parts aren't too badly burned either. What you don't see here are Mr. P's instructions that are three chapters so far and are just excellent. I believe this adventure is going to make me a much better ship builder.

vitorcampos reacted to Chuck in HMS Winchelsea - FINISHED - 1764 - by Chuck (1/4" scale)
Happy thanksgiving guys!!!!
I woke up this morning and hit the head. Took a selfie with my phone. Then I started working on the model, Here I am inspecting the quarter galleries. The 1/4" scale figure was painted by a friend of mine in my local club. He made it look like me.

vitorcampos reacted to donrobinson in Brush painting hull ??
I brush acrylic paint all the time and have never sprayed. I use the cheapest of cheap paints and get excellent results. The secret is to thin the paint, almost 50/50 and to apply several coats. The picture is showing my galley hull which has at least 8-9 coats. Also be sure to have all surfaces sanded very smooth, I seal the surfaces first using wipe on poly then sand smooth again before applying paint. Occasionally I will sand lightly between coats of paint if required. It is best to paint the entire hull, at least one side, and try to keep a wet edge at all times. Thin Thin coats is the main thing to remember, and to be patient.

vitorcampos reacted to Emmet in Nina by Emmet - FINISHED - Amati -1/64 - first wooden ship
With the help of Lazy Saint I chose this Model for its 1:64 scale.
I see other members include the drawings so I am following suit. I think too big though. I will have to scale them down next time.
I have never done any work with the Exacta tools so I was being very careful.
I carefully numbered and compared the pieces to the actual drawing.
I then put everything together dry. I plan to hand buff each piece on the ends to get any "burrs" out. and then I will glue them. I have read a lot about glues on this site now it is my turn. I have worked a lot with wood but not on a small scale so I have use only Elmer's Carpenter glue. On rare occasions I have used white glue for fear of having to take the object apart. I am planning to go to Florida soon so I am not sure when I will be back. I know this is a simple boat to build but I had to start somewhere. Like all of the members I will accept any and all input from anyone.
Happy New Year
I am wrong in the above and at a suggestion I am replacing these as help to someone who might think the same way I was.
