Keith Black got a reaction from goatfarmer11 in USS Tennessee 1869 by Keith Black - scale 1:120 - Wood Hull Screw Frigate - ex Madawaska 1865
Thank you Paul for the comment and a "thank you" to all for the likes.
Pin rails 2.0 installed. Next on the menu is to tidy up the anchors and add the support chains for the stacks.

Ladders, fairleads, bollards added. Redoing the pin rails will/sould be next.

More delightful work, Keith. Those pad eyes down aft look like they're made for some pretty heavy duty work. One could almost take them for towing brackets except this is a yacht and there aren't any towing leads near the one you show. Is there anything large and heavy in the vicinity that would need some serious lashing down?

Keith, not really in the right position for fairleads. None of the photos I have ever show them in use.

I am minded to think that we have one of the most appropriate pastimes to deal with current world events. I hope you are all keeping safe in these strange times.
I made less progress than expected over the past few days. Two oddly shaped brackets are positioned on the aft deck. I am really not sure what they are for or why they are the shape they are.
They were made from a scrap of aluminium - one bracket cut on each end.
The base is .3" square and the web is .175" high
Just forward of the main deck house are couple of boxes each with 3 vents.
As usual I started with a sketch, the overall size is 1.4" long by 1.0" wide and 0.8" high.
The boxes were built around oak block cores.
The cladding was made out of mahogany ripped down to the 3 required thicknesses of 0.1" 0.125" and 0.150".
The cladding process is fairly simple and not worthy of much explanation.
The top surface is planked with caulking between the planks. The planks are 0.1" wide by .060" thick.
The next post should be more interesting as I get onto more complicated deck houses.
Keep safe.

Thanks to everyone for looking in and for the likes.
I just needed a short break and now it feels good to be working on the model again.
I’m glad you found the short history of interest. I enjoy researching the when and why of whatever I'm modeling. For me, the story brings the object to life, whether it’s a model or an old woodworking tool that belonged to my grandfather.
Thanks for the comment Chris and your continuing interest.
Thank you John.
I have been avoiding grocery shopping also - around 2week intervals, so maybe my mention of baked haddock was a sub-conscious thing. When all this is behind, I’m going to go out and eat and drink like a Roman emperor. Thanks for the kind words Keith and for stopping by.
As Paul said – Japanese breadcrumbs. They provide a nice crispiness, and are great on oven baked chicken.
I gave this a try and it works quite well. I did find that I had to set the line weight a little heavier for a decent transfer, but quite successful otherwise. I have some laser transparency film in the closet that I'll have to dig out and see if that works also, because I do like to be able to register the image onto the material. Thanks for the tip and the comment Wefalck.
Thanks for stopping by Eamonn and for the nice complement. I hope you can find something useful here.
Hello Jim – they are going to dangle off the gallows similar to this more recent boat. The model will probably end up on a simple diorama with a worker scraping or painting the hull. Not quite sure yet. Thanks for dropping by and the kind words.

That sounds so good. My wife and I are going into our fourth week of self imposed isolation without having gone to the grocery store during all this time. I'm so tired at looking at the same thing every time I open the cupboards.
Gary, your build is a cascade of triumphs and it's such a pleasure to watch the progress.

Update.. sanding is done though I will recheck everything before planking. Next is to set it upright and work on the gundeck by adding some decking and framing in the bulwarks, gun ports, and stern. Not necessarily in that order. I happy to be done with the balsa... miserable sawdust it makes. I'll clean up the shop in the morning.
Here's photos.

Finished making rope for the shrouds and added to the mast, getting a bit crowded up ther
Added moulding channels etc to starboard side and now working on chains and deadeyes

Very artistic. I love natural wood like that, and the cantilever is visually interesting. Nice walk-around video, too.

Keith Black reacted to popeye the sailor in Great Republic 1853 by rwiederrich - FINISHED - four masted extreme clipper
congratz Rob.......your finished you've put so much into her.......the detail is through the roof. I've built the Cutty twice now....but I never in my wildest dreams, could detail one out like you've done. I agree....it's quite a feat to do what you did here. if you can do the same with the Glory of the Seas, it will be an enormous accomplishment! this log is first choice for anyone to follow!

Great work as usual Gary! Where will these be mounted on the boat? Or, do you plan to create a diorama of the boat in action?
Cheers,
Jim

Pat, I'm working at 1:120 and while it can be very tedious, a lot of items less than 6 inches even 12 inches, depending on how intricate an item is, gets left off with the "sometimes less is more" thinking. Do you find at 1:72 you're compelled to replicate more so than not?
