  1. I then began making the first main course furled sail. Finished making the yard and adding the foot ropes and flemishhorses. Here a couple images of the process... Rob
  2. Thanks again Pat. I have loads to do on the rigging and some other issues to attend to as far as what date I have chosen to model her in. I've opted to keep her around the 1877 time frame...since she was heavily modified and updated throughout her colorful career. I hope to rig her with weather sails similar to this image of her...the only known image of her under sails. She will not be running fully sailed like the Great Republic...but her set will be surely different then what I've depicted in the past. Rob
  3. Thanks so very much Popeye. I try to cram as much realistic details into my models. Being I generally work in 1/96 and now 1/128. I can achieve quite a bit of detail. In this case I feel the sails added the greatest detail. I will be adding storm sails to the Glory of the Seas. I appreciate your fine compliments. You've stuck it out with me and I appreciate that too. Rob
  4. Thanks Gary......I completely agree..she was amazing....so much so, that she has never been duplicated. Again, many thanks for the fine compliments. Rob
  5. I want to now move forward with Glory of the Seas...and not leave her in sucha unfinished state...... Thanks for the comments. Rob

  8. I too am a PNW guy who adores local sailing history....Scroll through the Glory Log and see some of my adventures surrounding the Glory. Thanks for all your support and encouragement. Rob
  9. It has been over 5 years since I began the Glory of the Seas...taking a departure to build my scratch Great Republic. Now that I completed her, I am returning to the Glory after recently speaking to the author of the book *Glory of the Seas* Michael J. Mjelde....I've found new energy and purpose to finish her. Here is were she resided while I worked on the GR..now she can come down and begin her own transformation and completion. I hope everyone will fine her as enjoyable as they did the Great Republic. I will only be rigging her as she was last photographed while under sail with only her lower and topsail set along with her main staysail and forestay sails. Rob
  10. Nic...no that is a piece of the maple I cut down 5 years ago and I had it milled...that is a piece I had especially cut to use as the base for the GR. Quite a unique mounting, how it cantilevers. Both the finished base and the knotted extension are from that maple tree I cut down. Thanks for the fine comments. Rob
  11. I will be returning to the Glory of the Seas...to finish her up. Rob
