Your right about the first Fletcher's were round bridges. The sq. bridges based on the Bath Iron work plans were different
than the one's based on the San Pedro plans. The hatches/doors were different, also some portholes

The first 58 Fletcher's ordered were referred to as the High Bridge or Round Bridge. The remaining 117 Built were referred to as Low Bridge or square Bridges. The change was made to provide more anti aircraft defense, had nothing to do with the coast they were built at. The Sullivians DD 537, was a Low Bridge as was the USS Ammen DD 527, which I served aboard as a Crew Member before the Fram Modifications became common. Photo is the USS Ammen by me in a Long Beach Drydock after the 19 July 1960 collision with the Collet DD 730 off of Seal Beach, California.

Evening all,    another good day,   I started off by putting in the rear glazing in the form of clear plastic sections,  then I  filled in the windows with pva to create an old windows look,  then I have  re worked the staircase  bottom post, I made it from wood dowel it was attached to the staircase side and rail, then I have put top caps on the posts.

As I said I have decided to put some furniture inside the cabin  as it may be seen (shadowy)  through the windows  - so I have made a 6ft round table.

    A few pics today.

lmagna reacted to Thunder in HMS Resolution by Thunder - FINISHED - Corel - 1:50 Scale - 17th Century Cutter
Corel kit described as an early 17th Century Cutter.  Using 'The Sailing Navy List' this gives us the following possibilities:

Cutter 1779-1797, 200 tons, 14 guns, 10 swivels , 70 men, foundered in the North Sea. Possible Brig rig. Another source has this vessel as under command of Lieutenant William Huggett. He was lost with the ship, ship was recorded as missing with all hands. Cutter 1798 14 guns, 10 swivels, 70 men no further information. (seems too similar to above) Cutter  1995-1801, 12 guns, 41 men. Hired ship, cutter, 1807 - 1814, 8 guns. Naval customs cruiser, cutter, Built Cowes 1831
Many of Corel's kits are taken from the Chapman collection. As none of the above could be considered correct to the kit description I thought I might find the answer here. Unfortunately the cutter in Chapman looks nothing like the kit. In fact the kit doesn't even look like a cutter. I.e. quarter badges, stern Gallery, bowsprit rig, beakhead. For me the closest fit I have found is from the book 'Sloop of War' by Ian McLaughlan.

I think it is probably a made up vessel of a sloop similar in design and rig to ferret but not a cutter. This seems to be a theme with Corel's and some of the other Italian market kits.

overview of the kit was that the materials were of very good quality with a good set of eight large drawings.

This will be another short topic with photographs found.

Very few of us do on our first model! Far more important is whether you make it to the finish line or not.

    COCKPIT PROGRESS....

The powder blue base coat has been applied to the body..... now allowing several days to cure out before next coats then finished sanding with 1000 grit then shooting with clear coat.
Meanwhile.... Spent the last couple of days creating the cockpit module.
This photo taken this morning with the first dry fitting of the roughly shaped steering wheel and the dash board I created with computer graphics.
Hope to have the door panels created today.

I think he has the guns in the kit Mark.

He was just too lazy to put them in! Or he took them down to the local pirate shop and discount store and traded them for a couple of pints when Jack wasn't looking!

Moving right along. You must be running low on hull parts! Are you going to leave the lower deck cannon off and just have closed ports?

She is slowly taking shape. Yesterday, I cleaned up her paint. And glued on her port and starboard cabin windows. Today, I drilled holes for eye bolts and false dead-eyes. Glued in all the eye bolts and the port foremast dead-eyes.

Another catch-up post— about the 5”/38 turret...
I saw that Model Monkey offers a 1/300 scale turret set for the Taney kit-  you get two in a package (but no barrels.) I ordered them and they came quickly.  They are nicely made, and show how far off the Revell turret is. Compared to the MM 3-D printed turret, the Revell one has some issues:
    - In profile, the two turrets are about the same size. But from the front, the Revell turret is noticeably wider.
    - It is square when looking at it from above- it is missing the  taper- the back of the turret is not as wide as the front.
    - the gun is centered on the face of turret, and should be offset to the right.
    - the turret has the Gun Captain’s observation hood, which most, but not all, of the class photos seem to not have.

So what am I going to do?   Keep the kit turret!

Here’s why— my new, custom deck was made long before I found out about the replacement turret, so the base I made was sized for what I now realize is a too-wide turret.  The correct turret won’t fit.
About all I can do now is to sand away the observation hood....or not.  I found one picture of the Duane with it..

Evening all,   not much of an update (not in the photo sense anyway as I dont have any new ones at this stage)    but  what I have done is - added the remaining sections of  water channel  strips all the way along both sides from bow to stern, and painted them the same color as the bulwarks,   I have also re shaped the bottom post at the bottom of both staircases  as they were too long  and  needed thicker posts.
I have also started constructing the rear frame for the rear and side cabin windows,   I have decided to have a bash at creating a small amount of cabin furniture  - just a table and couple of chairs, the idea is  even through stained windows (PVA) I should still be able to see some shadows of furniture.

Well thats where I am at the moment.

Welcome to MSW.   There are quite a few non-wooden ships being built in the Kit area so feel free to post a build log.  It's a great way to get help and make friends.

Hello, upon searching for information on my Aristo-Craft ship, I came across a post from someone looking for the instructions for the Charles W Morgan. All I have found about my 1/50 size kit is that the insides of the box are identical to Artisania Latina's ship. The post was dated 2014. I could help, maybe, if the writer did not get any help in this regard. I have posted this ship for sale with pictures on Kijiji a website that a lot of people here in Toronto and across Canada use. I am also selling a 1/70 scale Steingraeber kit of the La Pomone on that site as well. I will never get to build these as I have stored them for many years and I am in the middle of building two other boats Graupner's original Schnellboot and a PT boat, sorry not sailing ships, and have one more to go after that, a trawler. As I am new to this site I will be investigating the many posts and see what new things I can learn. I have been away from model building for many years so this maybe interesting.

I'm an Ex Destroyer Sailor. I was on a Fram 1 out of San Diego in the early 70's. I LOVE destroyers.
Good luck with your kit! Check were the Sullivans was built. There is a different bridge for West
Coast and East Coast bridges. There is a 3-D printed part that could help you.
I am now retired and I volunteer at the Charlestown Navy Yard. We have the Cassin Young DD793
an I sometimes work on her.
An questions I may be able to help.
