lmagna reacted to MikeB4 in Medway Longboat 1742 by Chuck - FINISHED - 1/2" scale
I noticed Model shipways has a new model of the eighteenth century long boat at a 1:24 scale version. It's going to be about 24" long once it's built.

"Beauty is in the eye of the beholder," so they say. I rather like off-beat modeling subjects and lug rigs. BTW, halibut and orange roughy are excellent eating, but neither of them will ever win any piscine beauty contests. 😉

I'm must confess, I learned a lot on this build log. But.... if I was a-fishing and caught a fish that looked like this vessel..... I would quietly throw it back into the drink. And I would never discuss it with anyone.
I find it very surprising that the maker of the kit chose this subject- gutsy or foolish I cannot tell but evidently a well designed effort!!!
Great job on the model.

lmagna reacted to semorebutts in Bismarck by Semorebutts - FINISHED - Trumpeter - 1/200 scale - PLASTIC - with MK1 detail set
They are not part of the MK1 or Pontos detail sets. They are sold seperately as mini kits by Veteran Models each kit is 2 guns. So I had to buy 4 kits. But the detail is AMAZING! Theres no way to see the detail with my iphones camera. Theres also no way to use all the available parts as there are waaay to small( for me Atleast) I highly recomend veteran models kits as an upgrade.
these are 2 parts in the kit at the end of the tooth pick! Way to small for me. With how busy a battleship is the average Person observing the whole Model would never see these two pieces anyway. Besides there is no way I have the skill to install these two pieces
These parts are not even the smallest pieces I would have shown you the smaller ones but I had no idea how to cut them away from the sprue.

Are the gun mounts pictured above part of your overall detail-up set? Look real nice.

8 guns to assemble. The first 4 are relatively easy (6 pieces each basically)
the other 4 are way more complex, way more pieces and PE.
Heres the first 2 ready for paint.

lmagna reacted to John Allen in Model Ship World on Facebook
I hate to be a wet blanket and Facebook has a place but it is a gold mine for those wishing to do ill to others.
I started an Investigative company after retiring from law enforcement focusing on comp, disability, and medicaid fraud.
One of our best tools for initial background information is Facebook. People tell on themselves without realizing it.
My warning is you open up your world to the bad guys, where you live, children, schools they go to, where you work pictures of family, house, automobiles. You also give access to all your friends posted on your pages. You post when you go on vacation and how long you will be gone. I could go on with a long laundry list.
Facebook has a place but be well aware of what to post and what not to post.👿 the devil he be out there.

lmagna got a reaction from Elijah in MASTER-KORABEL NEWS
Nice selection Eugene
Will they be sold already blackened?
Also other than the extra band next to the touch hole I am having trouble knowing what the difference is between the CN00280 and the CN10280

lmagna reacted to bglithero in DKM Tirpitz by bglithero - Revell - 1:350 - PLASTIC - Platinum Edition with Eduard PE
Started to add the railings on this level. You can see where I broke one over adjusting the angle. Its hard to see without magnification so the gap will stay there. A few touch ups to do..

Finally to todays work.
Added ladders and railings to rear structure. Struggling with these railings and my clumsy fat fingers. I didn't realise how bad my eyesight had become. Had to go and buy a laboratory microscope to work with this photoetch.
Added to lower structure.
And radar(?) added. I am leaving the aerial off as I know I will knock it off if I fit it now.

The funnel top was an exercise in nerve, having to remove the horrible thick kit interior.
The macro lens is a cruel mistress....

The hull then received black shading on the panel lines before being sprayed with hull red, masked, camouflage sprayed and then bootstrap. No photos I'm afraid. The hull was weathered and had a light spray of dark green at the bottom and dusting of white. This was kept low key as it was based in the cold North Sea waters.
Whilst I was working on this, I made a start on some of the superstructures. First off was the aft structure and hangars. After removing the kit plastic, photoetch was added. The boat supports came from the Eduard set.
The doors and portholes from the white ensign set.
The steel is from the kit etch.
Temporarily assembled.

After all the filling and sanding, the prop shafts and supports were added and the whole thing given a coat of primer.
