lmagna got a reaction from Piet in HMAS Vendetta 1925 by cog, popeye the sailor, and RGL - FINISHED - Showcase Models -1/350 - PLASTIC
I was wondering where my stash was going! I appears he is sneaky too!
It sounds like the Seydlitz will be a nice build but unfortunately not one I would be interested in personally building. As usual my favorite would be MUCH harder to do. But I will follow with extreme interest.

Yes Canute, and Cog gets to pick on you too. It’s becuse he’s so tall. He can reach up the rafters to steal food from onlookers.

No, no, no, no, no ... you are changing priorities, it wasn't to be the next build, but the next, next build if I recall well.
Rigging ... you are kidding me, rats ... all those lines ... first some more paint work. Got the paravanes, another reel, and the rack to tie the dinghies to in primer. In a few hours time they'll be ready and I can stick them on. I saw I missed some AA guns on the aft deck, need to fix that too. I haven't made the galley funnel yet, not a lot of work, but it needs to be done too, get the dinghies on, fit the boats, enough left to do before I even try to find my elastic thread ...

Hmm, will this be a multi-player like Vendetta? I am interested.

No nagging by me! You’re all over it. Looking forward to your rigging and joining the next build.

Thanks for all the likes and positive comments (Greg, nothing to nag about ...?)
Steven,
It's not so hard as i seems. Some elements are not much more than a piece of brass rod, tipped with some glue, other elements require a bit of patience, telescope eyes, and nimble fingers. Something like you need for your build ... so 'at off to you sir
Finger control ... I thought I neede what the Germans call "fingerspitzengefuhl" ... darn, now I need to get me a control box for each hand ...
cheers

lmagna got a reaction from Jim Rogers in MASTER-KORABEL NEWS
Looking forward to your build Rodger, and what you think of it. I think we all know what the 'other company' is and share your feelings on their offering. I have the larger Master Korabel boat to go with my Phoenix kit and although I have not built it, the little kit looks like it has the potential of building into a little jem.

lmagna reacted to JerseyCity Frankie in Angle of ship masts
A side effect of a dramatic Mast Rake on a square rig is that the location of the Sling of the course yard needs to move farther forward in order to avoid having the yard laying directly on the Mast. The hole in the top to accommodate the Sling on the Brig Niagara, for instance, is way up forward near the forward rim of the top, far enough out so that the yard suspended below is free and clear of the Mast.

I have not been suggesting that a 1/72 or 1/48 scale resin model would be the solution for your problem.

So far I have not been able to find anything on this forum or a couple of others. I have tried searching for Dumas, Chris Knoll, Chris Craft and Hercules, with no success. And I don't believe that a 1/72 or 1/48 scale engine would work in a 1/8 scale model (break out the magnifying glass). And no I am not skilled at CAD to design my own. But, keep suggesting ideas. I may look into the CAD idea more, maybe someone I know has CAD back ground or a simple CAD program may be useful. I still believe the best idea is to get a 1/8 scale engine (ie the 65 Vette) and modify it with chrome heads, velocity stacks, etc. I did see a Chris Craft brochure that showed a 427 engine, I was unaware that Chris Craft offered big block Chevys. Maybe they were for larger boats than the runabouts. Anyone know? Thanks for all the input so far.

Good to see the results at last of your fine tuning the Death Star down from planet destroyer to artist. Quite an accomplishment. We will have to start calling you Lord Vader! May the force be with you!

If you have CAD-program and the skills to go with it, you could develop a virtual 3D-Model and have it printed ... trawling the 3D-printing companies, such as Shapeways, might also be worthwhile.
Wasn't there even a Chris Craft with an egine here on the forum, or was this a Riva ?
I have been tossing with the idea of a model of an early run-about or speedboat with one of those huge marinised surplus aero-engines that they used in the 1920s or so. There various WWI resin engines in 1/72 and 1/48 scale available.

Works for me. I only said something because if it was me I would come back tomorrow or next week and end up gluing them before i stopped to think why they were in that position! I do stuff like that constantly!

My house is 120 years old and had been converted into a rental before I bought it with a washer and dryer placed in the basement for common use.
When I bought the house I de-converted it and moved the washer and dryer upstairs to the back bedroom that had been converted to a kitchen, after taking out the stove and dishwasher. That still left three upstairs bedrooms and the Admiral doesn't have to carry laundry up and down the stairs. Probably just as much fire risk as in the basement but we have a fire detector installed also.

I take that back about the hull expanding and contracting on deep dives.
The area in question is not part of the pressure hull, but a casing installed over the true hull to provide a walking/working area and is therefore not exposed to pressure changes with depth. The true pressure hull starts just below the freeing ports at the water line and appears to be black rather than the charcoal color of the upper hull.

No reason why not OC. The tiles are most likely glued directly to the bare metal and if they get knocked off like in this picture the exposed area would rust pretty fast. There are also some signs of rust showing along the seams of some other panels further back. Possibly that is the reason the panels fall off. Water seeps behind the panels and lifts them off. I suspect that there is considerable flex in the hull between deep dives and the surface and the tiles expand and contract at a different rate than the hull.
Some other areas of note is that the circle marker for the escape hatch is green rather than red or yellow, and that the bollard the guy in sitting on is yellow on top rather than black. I am assuming that this bollard retracts flush with the deck when not needed as a seat. Another item of note is the cleats. It appears that they are fixed and do not retract or become flush with the deck in some manner.

lmagna got a reaction from John Allen in Trafalgar Class Submarine by Old Collingwood - FINISHED - Airfix - 1/350 - PLASTIC
I agree
Back in the day my favorite nuke sub was the Skipjack, and the only kit available was the old Aurora kit that left much to be desired as far as detail goes. That was no excuse I suppose, as I also have plans for the Skipjack that showed details that were not on the kit but could have been etched in. At any rate, my Skipjack ended up as a black teardrop with fins. The prop was really the only break in color!
You might also see if you can find pictures of the deck and see if like US subs these subs have the "Target" ring painted around the rescue hatches. Only a little bit of color but everything helps. Also it looks like the Radar mast is painted white in all the pictures where it is raised.

Nice job OC she is already taking on some character. She is no longer a cigar tube with aspirations of becoming a Sardine can.
