  1. Hi Jim, many thanks for the info, much easier than painting individual pieces.. Do you have a name for the product. Cheers Fernando
  2. I've finally decided to start on my model after doing some research on this website as well as on other sites. As is custom attached are a couple of photos of the package I got from modellers shipyard which appear to be in good condition and all there. I also bought the "How To Build" dvd and have watched it to get an idea of what I can expect over the coming months of the build. One question I do have already is what do other builders do to "blacken" or "age" the brass fittings that come with the kit (ring bolts etc). Is is better to paint them (if so, any suggestions on what paint to use) or dip them in some solution(mix of vinegar etc). SO here goes......! (PS. I'm not brilliant on technology so apologies in advance if I make a mess of my uploads!)
  3. Hi Joachim Have only just started following your build but have been scrolling through the last 9 pages. I am absolutely gobsmacked at the quality of the workmanship and detail that you have put into this build. I will continue to follow the build as I have picked up some very good ideas on building techniques.
  4. Hi Steve, as a newbie to model ship building I stumbled on your build log and have been very impressed with the detail provided. I have also been able to get quite a few ideas and suggestions when I start my third build (Colonial Sloop Norfolk by Modelers Shipyard) in the next couple of weeks. Your work and detail of finish is fantastic....something I hope I can achieve. Keep up with the build log and I will be following your log with great interest. Cheers.........Fernando
  5. Hi Chris Many thanks for the heads up on the miniature steam models website. I've gone ahead with the purchase of the Norfolk but am keen to try out either the Endeavour or the Bounty next (may convince my kids to get me a kit for my birthday!!) Will you be posting pictures of the Bounty once completed? Am interested on how she looks. Cheers........Fernando Oops...apologies Steve. Had Chris on my mind as had just got off the phone speaking to a good mate of mine called Chris.
  6. Hi Pat

I read your post on the Vampire......small world as I spent a few days on the Vampire in 1974 when I was deciding on whether to join the Navy. I was one of 50 "kids" who were wined and dined at the Officers training school at Jervis Bay for a couple of  weeks and were allowed on board for a couple of days out to sea. I recall we towed a large dummy craft which the boys in the Fleet Air Arm used as target practice from their jets....all very enjoyable. It was great that the RAN did not break her up and donated her to the Maritime museum in Sydney.

By the way, after my very brief "stint" in the Navy I decided not to join and after a couple of years thumbing my way around Europe ended up in the financial services industry .....a long way from the sea!

    Cheers.........Fernando

  8. Many thanks all for your welcome posts. Looks like I can count on a few of you for assistance when I start my new build. After careful consideration and seeking wise counsel from my captain (aka my wife!) she has advised that I should go for the Colonial Sloop Norfolk from Modelers Central. I see from some your posts that some of you have already completed this model and after looking at the build logs and the finished photos I am not so sure I can emulate the quality and craftsmanship on show. As soon as I get my new kit I will start my build log. Cheers........Fernando
  9. Hi David, how is the build coming along. I'm thinking of doing this build and as a relative newbie to wood models am interested to hear any thoughts you have on your build. Any pics, pitfalls etc.
  10. Hi, I tried to change my name but it would not let me as I had posted only one item and ity says I need to post another 99! Is this correct or is there something I have incorrectly done. Cheers........Fernando
  11. Firstly a quick intro....I am now "semi retired from the financial services industry and apart from cycling was looking for a hobby where I could use my long lost skills as a model boat builder. I built a number of model boats in my youth...all plastic but always had a wish to try my hand at wooden boats. At the end of last year I took the plunge and bought my first wooden boat kit...."Cadaque" from Artesania Latina. A great way to test my skills and patience. I thoroughly enjoyed building it despite numerous errors and some dodgy fixes...overall though I was hooked. My next model is from Modelers Central...HM Cutter Mermaid. I am in the throes of completing this model and am already researching my next build. I'll probably go for another Modelers Central model ( Colonial Ketch Mary Byrne or the Colonial Schooner Port Jackson). I hope to post my buildlog when I start my new build and look forward to any assistance from the experts on this great website.
