In clearing out my workshop this morning, I found this nice box of materials for dioramas. It's mostly Woodland Scenics products. There are also several sheets of plastic "walls" and surfaces. I would like to give this box away but I would like to get the price of shipping. Shipping anywhere across Canada - with no tracking number, $50 USD. With tracking number is $120 USD Shipping anywhere in the lower 48 states is $85 USD I am not quoting for the rest of the world, as I am sure you can find this stuff locally for the same price or less. For reference, the box is 19.5" x 12.5" x 11.5" and it's pretty packed with goodies. Of course, if you want to drop by, you can just pick it up here in Montreal. Best Regards, Rick

In order to understand what is going on with mail prices around the world, one should study the rules of the Universal Postal Union treaty. This is a treaty that goes back something like 144 years and allows developing countries (including China) to get huge discounts on shipping mail around the world, based on the volume of mail sent and received. As far as I know, once a year, transfers of money take place among countries' postal systems to allow developing countries to send mail to developed countries at prices that are very advantageous to those developing countries. It's interesting reading. And, as an interesting side note, the previous American administration decided to pull out of this treaty, saying that it had become unfair as developing countries were overwhelming its postal system with packages that were being mailed at a deep discount.

Every now and then something in my workbench stresses me out and needs to go. My supplier of planks has gone out of business and so I will not be able to replace the stock of planks that I sell from this supplier so I just want to clear out what I have left. The product is a sliced veneer from Spain. The Europeans call this stuff Spanish Sycamore and it is really nice and bendy. Clients who have used this product are very pleased. There are two sizes of planks; 6mm x 1mm x 1200mm and 6mm x .6mm x 1200mm. The thicker planks are in bundles of 25 and the thinner planks are in bundles of 40. I would like $25 USD per bundle and I think there are seven or eight bundles left of each size. I really would love to sell everything to one person. Offers are welcome and will check the number of bundles if someone wants to take them all. Shipping will be $30 USD anywhere in Canada, $60 USD anywhere in the US. For anywhere else, I'll check the price if someone is interested. Thanks for looking! Rick

Greetings All, I see I did not follow up my previous note about Caldercraft but I did have a chance to spend a nice afternoon at the company back in October. I must say, the visit reinforced my enthusiasm for the company, their products, and their business philosophy. They are a head and shoulder above any other company I can think of. What a shop! The house is next door to the workshop, and that itself is on a hill overlooking a beautiful, green, valley, with Birmingham way in the distance. It's quiet enough to hear the birds singing in the trees around the shop. Now that is what I call civilized! Inside the shop, they have the finest equipment one can imagine, and the organization of the parts, my! my! I think even Ikea could learn from them. Speaking of answering emails, all their kits are numbered and serialized. If you've bought a kit from one of their distributors, and you have an issue, their response time is quite phenomenal. Hi Mike, Indeed, you and I have spoken before. I sold several Jotika kits to Gordon. I cannot speak on the production schedule for Surprise but I can tell you the company is very busy building kits as fast as they can. They are especially busy with their fabulous Victory kit. Yes, it was a very informative meeting. They showed me all their machines and we discussed construction methods and manufacturing philosophies at length. I was completely sold on their products before I went there and now I have really drunk the Kool-Aid, as they say. I honestly don't think there's a better ship kit manufacturer anywhere. Cheers, Rick

I had the good fortune of spending a few hours at Jotika a couple of weeks ago and saw all their models in one place, including the Surprise they built so many years ago. I have to say Agamemnon really stands proudly among those models.
