The Spanker Boom is now mounted. I decided to Rig the upper and the lower lines to it to keep it as taut as possible. That can be a challenge the way it mounts, so I also tied a weight on the end to help get the lines run. It worked pretty good. Next comes the Spanker Gaff, and Flag Halyard, then the boats.

Not that much done over the weekend, did manage to finish the Fore and Aft Running Rigging, through Step E, leaving F and G until after the braces in Step 7 are mostly completed. Using AndyMech's suggestion since it gets real congested after the Spanker Gaff and spanker Boom are rigged. Might as well keep those out of the way until I get to that area after the Braces are run. I made a Pre Rigged set of Blocks for Step#3 under Notes: on the Step 6 of the instructions. I measured the lines, cut them to length, ran them through the blocks then ran the entire thing through the opening on the Fighting platform for the Main Mast. See photos. Then tied them off in their proper locations on the Foremast, with the exception of leaving them "dangling" on the Main Mast until the Braces are installed----then I'll tie them off when they won't be in the way. I hope this makes sense to anyone following along. I think you'll see what I'm talking about when you get to these stages. So now I'm off to Braces....

OK, today (in between watching the events in Boston - so sad)....worked on Connie so I could work inside, finished running Mainyard Lifts, knocked off the Standing Rigging Backstays on the Main....quite a bit of foul language practiced...made repairs from big fingers, and hung the Main Topsail Yard....things should move quicker after these have been done....and I don't knock anything else loose....lol...I can laugh now that it's back together...at least progress is progressing...I think. Here's a couple of more pictures.

Thank you Sjors, your kind words are very insuring. Glad you liked the pictures. I live on a lake, and it gets difficult to get a good background shot that shows the masts very well. My work table faces out to the water, so I can enjoy the lake and build my ships.

Hey Tex. Glad to see someone doing the "Charles W. Morgan". I may have missed something. Is it the "Model Shipways " kit?
I have started it, but have not begun a build log yet. Have the keel laid and the bulkheads glued. next step will be fairing the bulkheads.
A few other projects to finish before getting back into it seriously.
    Enjoy your build.

OK, guys, as promised I am setting up this build log well into the model. I originally started this model at age of 19 in college...it survived up until a few years ago and was destroyed by an ex during a divorce when she was about 80% finished....so restarted in 2009 and got to the point I'll show in pictures to be posted soon. Life changes caused a halt on modeling in 2010, and I moved to Costa Rica for a year in between. Thankfully, the Connie survived. So, now with a "new" life, I have started her again, and my new Fleet Commander actually likes ship models....so with that said, I am now restarting the Connie, as well as working on my newly acquired wood model, the C.W. Morgan, shown on a separate build log on this site, titles: "C.W. Morgan - by - Texxn5 JohnF - MS 1:64 Kit" for anyone interested. So, I have reformatted my camera to fit the proper size, and will post pictures tomorrow. Unfortunately for this build, I have no prior pictures even though I took pictures of every step...someone stole my laptop in Costa Rica, so I lost them all, including a log I started for myself...I had a backup external hard drive, but they got it too, so I lost all. So the best I can do is start here and go forward. The model is complete up to the Running Rigging. I have the Foremast pretty well done, and currently working on the Main Mast. All yards are done and ready to be hung, and I have the Mainyard hung with the Jeers done. I'll post current pictures tomorrow. Enjoy the ride, and hopefully I'll be finished soon so I can devote 100% to the Morgan.

Yeah Augie, I think we get our moneys worth on these things.  I'm looking forward to moving on to the wooden ships.  Plastic gets frustrating because of it's fragile nature...I think.  It's rewarding though because of "instant" detail with minor screw ups...lol

Well, the repairs turned out to be minor...looked worse than it was....never underestimate the power of CA and Accellerator...almost fixes anything...lol...So, back to moving forward again...

Welcome aboard Tex !   Glad to see a CW Morgan back on the site.  I'll be following along as she's a personal favorite.  Walked her decks many times back in Mystic.

Take your time, post lots of photos and don't be afraid to ask questions.  You'll find all the help you need on MSW.

And most of all, enjoy your first wooden ship build.

Hi guys, since I am new at this I hope that it has been set up properly, and I don't get Capn's Mast before I get started. I'll be trying to post some pictures later today as I get started. This will be a slow progress as I am in no hurry, I am also completing a Revell Constitution, I'm retired - and I do have a life besides model ship building...cooking and good cold beer do come first...life does have priorities you know. I'm not sure if shipbuilding causes me to drink my beer or drinking beer causes me to build ships....that one is still being investigated, but so far no results...gotta have my Grog....not much of a Rum drinker, so daily Rations won't help much, however a good Malt Whiskey never hurt....

Anyway, back to ships. This kit has been of interest for many years, and I now have the opportunity to do my first wood ship. I have scratch built models of oilfield production equipment from wood and have enjoyed doing that for many years, so the wood, being intimidating but not overwhelming should be fun - but slow, so bear with me guys, and I'll try to keep current.

Let the voyage begin....Bon Voyage and if I can get the pictures downloaded, I should be posting them soon....

Hello interested individuals, an update for this build log is that as of 10-10-2014 I have transferred my interest in building this log to my own website. If you are interested in following this please click on the link below to go to the website. There are quite a few pages of pictures in this log (MSW)that are missing due to a glitch that occurred earlier in the year. Therefore, I have committed my time to my own log, which has a lot of information for building this model in it. Sorry for any inconvenience, however, I think you'll like it better than this log. My site has a complete Build Log in it up to the point that I currently am at in the build. MSW is a wonderful site, and one can learn much from it. Please follow your friends and their logs here it will be rewarding.
