Back is hurtung less. Worked from home, which saved me the drive by car. Primed the hull ... unfortunately I can go back to the workbench, and pull some finer grained sandpaper from the stack. That'll have to wait till next week though.

Hello Piet!
Long time no read my friend. Building another sub!!! You are becoming our deep sea guru! Anything special, or still a BIG secret? Thanks for passing by
I thought it rather mistifying ... or should I say blurring ...
The back is a lot better, I wish I could be tortured a bit longer by that lovely physiotherapist. She had a good hand in manipulating muscle tissue! I can twist and shout again, not as supple as 30 years ago, but movement without pain is back
Nearly ready to prime the hull ...
I found that using a piece of thin brass rod works far better to apply CA than a touthpick. You can burn off any build up glue from it with a lighter, which is very practicle!!!

Pat,
Thanks, you put your finger on the sore spot: Slowly. In the end I'll get here
Sam,
Hadn't thought about that ... flying apple pie
Dennis,
If there is left, you can get another helping ... it's a pitty it takes 3.5 to 4 hours to make ... it seems I like it slow

Besides having been a major nuisance to myself - debugging a program for bugs all week long - I have managed to accomplish some things on a more happy note. Sparkling PE
From parts to the full fledged thing a ma jig ... nearly forgot, one of the two airplane catapults ... (why didn't they use those for boats, much faster launching!)
Had a lovely Dutch sky Yesterday (just around the corner ...)

Pat! Back from Canada?
Stockholm was much more. Besides, I had a tremendous good guide on Saterday afternoon and Sunday. Mike showed me a lot of pearls, and I can't wait to go back to do some further exploring!!! Back has improved a lot. Hardly feel it anymore. Maybe walking through Stockholm did the trick, if so I'll get my physician to write me a recurring prescription to go there

Thought that were their ships not turning into subs
Wonderful work on the masts, super structure, and all the other giant details

Build log part 60...
Update,
making the "collapsible" lifeboats...
These are shorter, flatter and a bit narrower than the larger lifeboats. The appearance is more that of a "river barge", but the capacity is just like the that of the larger boats. The hardshell-part untill slightly above the waterline is made in wood, and clinker planked. The side flexible textile / canvas bulwark is shown in collapsed mode, in order to staple two or three boats under the last pair of davits in the total boats row.
The raw mini models (I´m doing 6 of them) are made in the well proven way with silicone mold and resin castings......
Nils
Shape of the collapsible boats, (here still without shaped interior area)
"Clinker planking" resembled with 3mm wide stripes of aluminium foil
tapering the the overlapping stripes to the ends
making a mold for the outer shape hull
here the plug for the outer shape
Here the plug for the interior shape
This is the second plug for the interior contours of the boat, resin cast in between outer skin and interior plug
raw, collapsible boat compared with the size of the the larger boats
result : raw cast boat hull....
three story high, will put some additional spacer / supporting lugs under second and third boat

Steven:
Thanks. These Biloxi luggers had nice lines, for sure.
As for planking, I was wish I was as good at it as many others here.

The summer sun might be more of a distraction but there will definitely be periods where I cannot venture into the bowels of my dwelling to spend time in the play room as I will need to avoid dusty environments.
Getting old is a bummer.

Well, that's a drag. Sorry to hear about that, Alan. Hopefully it will not derail your life (or model-making!) too much.

There is no ideal way to do this Allan. It's easier to cut the sill mortises off the model but then re-raising the frame creates problems. In the end I find that the sill mortises are so shallow that, after fairing, they're virtually invisible. Any small gaps disappear by adding some glue into the space and sanding.
Love the height transferring device. Is it self-made?

It's a conundrum: either you cut the port openings as you go on a somewhat unstable framework or complete framing first, install longitudinals and then have a solid hull to cut into. Of corse, it's with tighter elbow room! A third alternative is assemble all the frames temporarily, mark the line of ports, then disassemble to do the cutting before permanently re-assembling.
