cog reacted to Mike Y in Beavers Prize 1777 by Mike Y - 1:48 - POF - Hahn style
Toni, thanks for the idea! Will try that as well. Wonder how artists are not going insane from all that variety of paints, brushes and application techniques
Hi John,See http://modelshipworld.com/index.php/topic/7297-oliver-cromwell-by-mike-y-148-1777-pof-hahn-style/page-25#entry454181 and https://www.amazon.co.uk/Modelcraft-1-Piece-Precision-Saw-Set/dp/B001JJXE9A/ref=pd_bxgy_201_img_2?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1&refRID=0MN1DH0GSEF1Q8CSJK38
Or just google "modelcraft saw set", it is available in a number of shops. Note that there are two different sets - one with smaller saws, another with a bit larger saws.

Gerhard,
It's wonderful that you're back. I had to go Google the V8 solenoid engine. One impressive bit of hardware. I take it that these are all basically scratch-built? I noticed that they're producing some of the parts using a 3D printer.

I hope you are well, my friend
There are a few of us at age 50+ in "non grown boys" group who ride motobike direct to surgery :D
I have learned my lesson four years ago, cutting my leg to bone... Do you?

Hi Patrick
Who knows.....................
To be serious, I would like to ride again, but will take some time off from that. Over the wintertime it`s much too cold, maybe next year again. But I must watch out for a not too expensuve bike, maybe a (used) sportster could be the next one.
Back to the Baby and it`s new concept of driving. I want to drive the boat with a small V8 solenoid engine, this motors have the best sound of electric engines, but I must figure out, what torque I can get out of such an engine. So there will be a lot of research to make, beneath my other projects!
Regards and thank you all for welcoming me back again!
Gerhard

Hi Gerhad
Nice to hear that you're back! I guess you've been banned permanently from riding bikes ever again????
All the best.
Cheers

Interesting concept, the CA with the solder, must remember it. Saved by the bell ... as it was to large ... You are doing some fiddly work. I see some more small items stowed in the background. Looks good, Jesse. Don't stress, so far you have come up with solutions to everything. It looks like you practise our royalties motto: "Je maintiendrai"

Nice solution Jesse,
I wouldn't have thought of it (don't have guitar string, but could have use the cable for a bicyle's handbrakes come to think of it).
And another person helped out ... you are an amazing person, with such an open heart, I feel privileged to get to know you for as far that is possible on a forum

Jesse,
With these small parts we tend to get to closewith the camera, which makes it hard to focus. Try to keep your distance and zoom in.
Your capstan looks the part to me. Marking the position on it is a good trick. Need to remember that somehow ... thanks for sharing

Nenad,
At least you've got an example how to get the form of the plug. Enjoy the little mischief as long as possible. Small dogs get bigger too ... an other princess ...

Michael, I think having two of those little beauties (third hands) is excessive; to save you the embarrassment I am happy to take the second one off your hands (all puns intended)
Seriously though, they look great. I purchased a GRS third hand (soldering station) but yours, especially with the machine clamps look very usefull for rigging as well as many soldering set-ups.
Would you mind posting a pdf of the mechanical set-up of the arm version (how you make it grip the bar yet remain adjustable etc)? I am not keen on grub or thumb screw option and I really like what you have done here.
cheers
Pat

It looks pretty good to me. The grain in the natural wood finish is bound to distract the eye and mask the definition of the transom. Strangely it would probably have been more defined if it had been painted in a colour but that wasn't your choice which is fine. One option would be to put a further layer of planks over the transom in a toning but darker veneer. Alternatively rather than cutting in a darker plank overlay a darker edge plank to follow the contour and then fill in by overlaying the existing transom planks with another layer.
