  1. tjm, Thank for the info, I have seen them built that way, thought it was the way the jig is setup. Thanks Jo, You're always such a playful kitty. Love your work on the mast and bow sprite. I have an update myself. Got this from Amazon today! Also, I started working on the keel and Frame 1, AND I discovered that the jig drawing and the keel drawing don't lineup. I was smart enough to not cut the jig to size and allow some room for adjustment.
  2. Jo, I hope you can look at your work and say 'Damn I'm good!', because you are! Your other build is the Yawl? Posted any photo of the box or kit? Try to find the right size brass tube, I haven't seen anyone do a good job wrapping and soldering yet. Proud to be your friend, Shane
  3. Thanks Jo, You always put a smile on my face. Your friend, Shane
  4. tmj, I think it is because this is not a laser cut part, is Hahn's a laser cut kit or just a style of building? So, I have seen builds where it is built upside down, but those had laser cut jigs. Ziggy
  5. I have cut out the pattern for both the keel and the first frame. I glued the frame patterns with rubber cement which I understand should come off real easy, so I can clear coat at some point.
  6. Thanks Denis, It means a lot to me. I was glad to see you post on your Arizona as well! Shane
  7. Jo, I am sure you will land on your feet like any good Shipscat would! But all kidding aside, I hope you feel better soon, back pain is not fun. Shane.
  8. No Super Kitty, nothing but good intentions. And thank you for the kind words. Your shipmate, Shane
  9. Jo, Have you posted anything on your new purchase? Your shipmate, Shane
  10. I am working on the details to the aft deck and the damaged gun deck. I also put the first coat of paint on the Memorial.
  11. I needed to cut the 1/4 thick boards down to 3/16. I don't have a thickness planer so a had to set-up my benchtop bandsaw to do the job. I will have to sand the cut side. I printed the first of the double frames. The red frame will glue to the blue frame to make Frame 1.
  12. David, You might check out DavidK's build on finescale.com, he did a start to finish including a glass case. If you get no response on the instructions, I might be able send you some copies of my instructions. Your shipmate, Shane
  13. I've been working on the wood for the keel (popular) and the false keel (mahogany) also some of the boards (6 of 18 needed) for the frames.
  14. Thanks Jo! I like classic movies and if you ever saw 'African Queen' with Humphrey Bogart, he has a line and I hope I quote it correctly "... I'm kind of a jack of all trades, a master of none." That's me! so we will see if all my talents in the real world, translates to modeling. Shane
  15. Alright Jo! You're partly to blame, you are doing such a good job on your wooden kit, I had to start a wooden ship myself! Or at least part of one. You will have to check it out. HMS Blandford cross-section POF by SigEp Ziggy, 1/48 scale, in the 'from scratch or plans' section. Shane
  16. Until now, my modeling experience has been in plastic. This will be my first attempt on a 'plank on frame' build in wood. Wish me luck! These are the woods I will be using, subject to change. Also, I have started working on the frame jig.
  17. Thanks for all the likes Gal and Guys Thank you too Jo, I have been wanting to work on her and it felt good to post to our forum! I also worked on the Nina, however was not post worthy but close. Hope see what everyone is working on soon. Your Shipmate, Shane
  18. Hi Jo, Great pics. I like reference photos, it makes your model seem alive and much bigger. I could tell you took offence to Bob's comments, I am sure he had good intentions. You can relax your arched back and stop wishing you had your claws back, wink wink. The Tom videos are very informative, maybe long and dry but the rigging ones are very good. Shane
  19. Looks fantastic! Can't wait to see the final details! Your photo are excellent too, I will refer to them often. Ziggy
