due to the length a 3-pedestal stand is adequate

the brass pedestals are from candle holders, drilled with 4 mm centerholes  for the three M4 spindles that are anchored securely in the ship`s "backbone"

    Patrick,
you`re right, the 1380 mm long hull is very sleek for an ocean-liner.
I`m very happy with the display stand geometry and the easy and secure way of fastening to the hull

    Nigel,
no wonder she was so fast, for her slim and sharp lines to knife her way through the ocean...., but she was also known for her tendency to roll quite a bit in spite of the bilge keels, her nickname was  "Rolling Billy", must have been many sea-sick per voyage

    Denis,
Thanks, I know you are fond of the size of the hull, being scale 1:144.
To my knowledge most museum models of the KWdG are 1:100, but that would be a hull as long as my bed.
I`m planing the pattern for the plating now

Following the lead of many other build logs, I made a simple guide out of a manila folder that I clipped in behind the shrouds to help me space and align the ratlines.

    Then, let the clove-hitching begin!

If anyone makes comments about how inconsistent my ratlines are, I'm just going to show them this picture, from a real ship, that I took while I was on my San Diego trip.    Maybe I'll just mount this picture on the base!

And, the starboard side is done.  I was hoping to finish both sides this weekend, but I had a fair number of other chores to do around the house, and I discovered that I was only able to tie off about 6 lines before feeling the need to get up and do something else for a bit, so it took a little time.

Tomorrow night I'll put lines on the guide for the other side and start the next half.  Woo...

Mirabell61 reacted to Blue Ensign in HMS Fly by Martin W - Amati/Victory Models - 1/64
Hi Martin, the sit of the guns thro' the port is worrying and something that will have to be addressed.

Using just the kit supplied stuff I had a similar problem, but having the guns too low or high thro' the port can spoil the look of the whole model.

I did use the kit carriages combined with the RB 32mm guns and replacement Amati carriage wheels which were of a slightly smaller diameter but better quality than the kit supplied Amati wheels (go figure)

This gave me more leeway to get the sit of the guns looking right, but as Brian has noted there are other tweaks available to improve the situation. I think I also probably deepened the notch to take the trunnions and  played around with rebates on the underside of the bed where it sits on the rear axle and forward tie bolt.  Is there scope perhaps for reducing the thickness of the bed to improve the situation.

This is a problem that many of us have faced to a greater or lesser degree, but is one that can be sorted.

    Cheers,

    B.E.
