Mirabell61 got a reaction from Piet in Eagle of Algier 1753 by Mirabell61 - FINISHED - 1:48 - Chebec - Nils Langemann
Hi Moxis,
a self made steam engine including a self made gas-fired boiler, that would be a thrill, and if possible fit all into a suitable boat with RC control. That will keep your designer`s mind busy for several weeks and months for planing and making, and your fellow builders at MSW shall be eagerly waiting to share your progress steps, once its kicked off......

Hi Moxis,
yes, I see you really sensed the feeling one has when the model is complete.
For the Chebec I still have to build the glass case, but quite a problem remains the fact, that I have`nt an adequate place where to display it in the moment. If I set it up in my hobby room, I would have to move at least one of the other six glass cases first, but also would`nt know where in the house to put that then instead....
My wife, Marianne, suggests that I better stop building model ships for quite some time.... ( not a good idea I think...)

Mirabell61 reacted to JpR62 in Queen Anne Barge by JpR62 - FINISHED - Syren Ship Model - 1:24
Thanks for all the 'Likes'.
It's done. The frame centers were removed. I used for this step four different tools : I started cutting with a triangular files. Then I enlarged the cut with the semi-circular file (the rounded shape used on the inside of the hull). Then I continued using the little saw. The cut is delicately finished using the cutter.
Once again just one tip : work gently.
Only the first frame to remove is a little more complicate because we have little room to bend it... Then the workspace gets bigger and bigger...
I just started to sand the tops of each frame down so they will be flush with the top of the planking. It's the preliminary step before to glue the cap rail.

Hello,
thank you Nils for your kind words and all others for there likes, they are very appreciated.
Today only a small update, I build the gratings for the hatches. After such a long time I build them the last time, I had to think a lot how to do it. But at least I got it.

Hello Nils. You have exactly same problem than me, I really don't know where to put the Maaninka model now that it is completed. I have in my hobby room a T-26 tank, Unimog, Bugatti and few other quite large things, so soon there is no empty table any more to build models. My wife has suggested me the same as yours: not to build any more models. But I don't think I will obey her. On the contrary, we have today discussed with a couple of my friends to start to build not only one but three steam engine powered boats. We will see how this idea is progressing, me particularly would be very enthusiastic to start building my first steam engine.

small update :
instead of a binnacle cabinet with compass, I made a compass column for the helmsman and placed it just after the mizzen mast...

Others have already said everything about this magnificant project so that I just cannot say anything more but only agree those words.
I think I know exactly your feelings now, on the other hand very satisfied to have the project finished, but on the other hand a bit empty feeling trying to decide what to build next. At least I have that kind of feelings at present.
