Update :
on the deck outcut side i put the braces on that hold the 9 side gratings in place. The 7 port guns will be arranged between the gratings, with barrels tied up at the upper bulwark, and the carriages tightly rigged for non battle mode. The starboard guns will be pointing out through the gun-ports.
I am concidering if eventually I should show the sweeps in their oar-port positions, at least on one side....

Thanks guys!
You're absolutely right, Greg. . .
Before the Hayling build I had no chisel or milling experience so I came up with all kinds of excuses for not making a scored rising wood. A modeler friend cautioned me about POF models and cumulative error issues that can arise. With that in mind I purchased a mill to make the scores. Now that I'm installing frames I can see the advantage in having them.

Yes, Greg; those old-time shipwrights knew a thing or two!

A bit more progress over the past week. With a number of frames completed it doesn't seem nearly as intimidating as I thought it would be. Only 15 more.

I managed to complete the forecastle deck hook and the breast hook over the last few of days. Both of these required a lot of fiddling in order to get them to fit properly. The angle of their inside edges changes constantly due to the changing angle of the hawse pieces.
Bolt holes were drilled through the hooks with a #75 drill. 24 gauge copper wire was used for the bolts. The position of each hook was set prior to gluing and clamping with copper wire. The wire being inserted into three of the holes that were extended about 1/32" into the hawse pieces. After the glue was dry, copper wire was snipped to a pointed shape and pushed firmly into the holes with a needle nose plier. The wire was snipped off leaving about 1/64" showing. Using a wide flat-tip nail set, the remaining wire was pushed (not hammered) into the hole until flush. I was wondering if this method would aid in holding the hooks in place, so I made test piece without using glue. I found that I could not pull it apart easily. I would recommend using this method as it is easier to do and avoids using glue which can be messy. Thanks for the tip, druxey! Liver of Sulphur was diluted 10:1 and applied to the copper wire for blackening.

A bit more progress as the remaining fore cants are now installed. Two machinist squares and a Q-tip hold things steady while cant #5 sets up.

Making progress, albeit rather slowly. As they say, “The hurrier I go, the behinder I get.”
The tapering of the keel and stem should be done before the rabbet is cut. The fore end of the keel is tapered from 12" to 10". This also reduces the width of the lower stem at the boxing joint. From there the stem is given a gentle taper to full width just below the whales. The transition from the boxing joint to the stem can be tricky, so care was taken while sanding.
The aft end of the keel is also tapered down from 12" to 10". Once all the tapering is completed, the rabbet can be cut. The rabbet has been turned vertical and is approx 2 1/2" deep. This will allow for some adjustment later when the 3" planking is added.
The fore deadwood and stemson where made from 15" boxwood sheet. The stepping line was done on the mill. There was no visible light coming through the joint prior to gluing. Those clamps come in handy!

Good evening for everyone, work goes further with finishing the ship's body and drawing the ribs on the body. I'm going to trace the sheets of each sheet of paper after the plane of the sheets.
A beautiful evening still.

Good evening, and for me as a navy model is a premiere this way of work but some time ago I saw in a small shipyard this working method in which pieces of the ship were made on a negative. Now the shipyards are working on designing and cutting materials by computer and the old methods of work have become ineffective.
All the best ,
Adrian,

The only thing left to do is to get her on a stand and in a case.

Erik,
Sorry or the late reply. I did manage to take a few shots today. However, the new site pushes a reddish/pink hue on all of my photos. . I wonder if anyone else has the same issue.
I really need to get started on the stand and case. If I don't, the dust will take over and eventually hide the ship completely.
