My comment prior to this editing was ignorant of what you're seeing. Have you thought about drawing a straight line on the underside of the false deck to make sure it matches up with the false keel?

I sent this comment to Conway:

Please pass on my sincere thanks to John for having made such a significant contribution to the ship modelling publishing world. In the early days of Model Shipwright, this was my only window into what others were doing in the field. Working in isolation, Model Shipwright was a valuable tool for me as well as many others, I am sure.   Every best wish to John in his well-earned retirement.

Some more windows shopping looking for my stuff (soldering wire, etc etc) and I think I found a solution for to much shinny "coppering"

Thank you for advices, Gentleman !!!

And here are results of testing :

Just exactly I wanted ! Keep original color and shine, but kill it a little !

It seems that only a few (?) testings and experiments has to be done, and that I am ready for "coopering" with couple of thousand hand made pieces ....

I've never found your painting technique to be lacking BE.  I have just had good results using many applications of diluted acrylics (as per Ben).  I've got your log bookmarked when it comes to cannon.  There's a challenge for which you have set the standard.

Happy (?) to report that no fish were harmed during the latest sortie.  Water levels are so high up here one almost feels sorry for the poor things.

    Dave:
A total restart? Wow. I do not see anything that tells me you should scrap the model. You can make the heart shaped deadeyes. With a little thought and practice, it would come together. Please do not make any hasty decisions. It is a great looking model so far. Consider staying with it.

This is exactly what I was afraid of.  The 5/32 scale (1:77) simply will not allow me the detail I feel like I should be looking at.
Just finished installing the shrouds to the fore mast top..... used 3.5mm dead eyes and the scale doesn't work to my eye.

Been wrestling with this from the beginning....now, as much as I hate it, I know what I must do.

I've only been doing a few bits and pieces on the ship lately, Last week I made the jib boom, its just temporarily tied in place. Today I made the first set of four stanchions for the handrail on the fore top. I might need to make some sort of jig because they are a bit tricky to keep lined up properly during soldering using these alligator clips. I'm open to suggestions.

I've been working on the mainmast this weekend. For the masting I'm using the AOTS drawings which I enlarged to 1:51 scale

Port side anchors (sans Bouys for the moment). I've included a few angles to show why the bumpkin stays would need to be unslung when the anchor is used (If the plans are correct, but all a bit late for the that).

I am not discouraged in any way, because somewhere form beginning until now, in my mind main strategy of building this model settled : details as on C-plans and photos, main look of model - as She look today with add of weathering. I realized that if go on accurate historic way - there is question without right answer - how exactly she look at 1902. or 1947. or 1895, or in day when Campbell made his drawings ... or ... There is no absolute correct answer, and some pieces and details must be left to imagination. All this investigation is very interrsting and fun to me, and I hope for you. Analyzing pictures and plans I learn an understand some issues, and ideas comes in a crowd how to make/resolve something. Very enjoyable for me to look and compare, to conclude (right or wrong) and to burn fire of impatience to go to shipyard as soon it is possible

I just recorded some interesting points intended to other inexperienced modelers who will be crazy or brave enough to build CS, and who will pay attention to details

    Thx for support anyway.

I was intend to make rudder tonight, but ... life ... very good friend come to drink a beer and to consult about his family and legal things, then Hothedad insisted to fix his broken office chair which inherit from me (kinked bolt in a nut = two hours of "gymnastic"), and as I turn around myself, time is 22:30h, and this is time for book and bed

pictures playing tricks on you...........shame on them!      keep in mind that she went through a number of repaints and repairs........the positioning of the numbers may have changed.   also....you must keep in mind that some old black and white pictures tend to hide subtle detail.  don't be discouraged the different photos........different snippets of time

Nenad many years ago a fellow modeler made a made a model of the Charles W. Morgan.  He spent 20 years on it because he kept taking things apart and adding in new items as he found them through research.  The end result was a gold medal at Manitowoc.  However he said that there is a time when enough is enough.  As far as I am concerned you have done wonders with what you have.  If you are truly satisified with what you have accomplished and are happy, then do not bother redoing anything.  Once your Cutty is done it will be a great work of modeling and skill.  Remember through out this build you have been learning and expanding your knowledge and skills and are having a lot of fun.  To me this is the great reward not medals and trophys.

Trim to Paddlewheel housing   A 1mm sq trim is detailed on the outer curved edge of the paddlewheel housing.  There was no chance of bending the 1mm sq timber trim provided with the kit as it was far too brittle.  Instead I cheated and used a length of 1mm sq plastic used in architectural models.  Yes, I have sinned and used plastic on the model but as it is going to be painted nobody is going to notice.  The plastic strip was easily prebent by hand.  To fix it to the housing I spot glued a few strips of balsa around the curve to help with keeping the strip in position right on the edge of the housing.   I used small dots of 5min epoxy and held the trim in place while the epoxy set.

The trim and balsa strips in place ready for glueing.

thank you for the  'likes'  gentlemen......I apologize for not getting the progress up sooner.   I had this done yesterday,  but my first mate had to go to the vet for his check up.  he did very well

anyway.........to set the stage for the fore deck planking,  a 1/16 border was lined along the edges for the stanchions.   a  'tip' was also added the the bow stem......repeated sanding rounded the edges a little,  and this was done to change the look.

I think I should have extended this along the cabin bulkhead,  but with the companionway and stairs,  I figured that I had better not.  a border plank was laid spanning across,  and the deck planking will meet it.

as this was done......I got the feeling that I may be wrong in my assumption of the plank color.  I need to remember that the main deck was done some time ago.......it has had plenty of time to cure.

I did a bit of sanding once the starboard side was done........just me being impatient with how it will look.

all sanded and ready for clear coat.   I used a semi gloss lacquer for the main deck,  and so I will here as well.  caution.........the colors will be way off,  but I think as it cures,  it will dull down.

the roof of the companionway has been painted.   here it is with two coats applied.
