Everyone: Just a quick update on getting the sails on my Agamemnon. The deck is a mess but Im slowly getting to the final stretch. The square sails are up and now working on the jib sails.. More to come.. making that final push to the finish line! 🙂 Mike Draper

Yves: Thanks for doing the homework on this as I was wondering about the size of the copper plates. And that width of plate you can get in Copper tape from a stained glass store... Around $20 Canadian. MIKE
-
Yves: I agree with your approach on the wales.. just make sure you measure.. measure and measure.. the location of the wales need to be exact as everything else is affected including channels. 🙂 Also,, if you want a alternative for copper plates supplied.. go to a stained glass store and buy their copper tape.. its in different sizes and it works great for copper plated. You will need a ponce wheel for simulating nails and you will need to cut them into individual plates which can be a tad tedious... Keep up the good work MIKE

Chuck: Quick question. As I get closer to getting my Agamemnon project finished (finally), I was wanting to ask if there has been a consensus on what sealer to use on the planking. I remember there was some discussion on using Wipe on Poly or Tung oil, but I was curious to hear what people have been successful with. Judging from some photos some just leave the wood unsealed. I do like how the grain is enhanced with a Tung oil but I was curious what has been everyone's experience (as I have never worked with Alaskan Cedar before). Thanks MIKE

Chuck: Good news! While the Winchelsea sits waiting for me to finish the Agamemnon, I can tell you I wouldnt have invested in the time keeping on top of your posts, and everyones building efforts if I think it was a second rate exercise.. Keep your hand steady on the tiller! Thanks you for your efforts MIKE

Yves: Thanks for the reply..Im working up to buying the kit and was just wondering what the lay of the land was with the guns.. Kits that have the half length dummy guns without carriages is a real pet peeve of mine.. It bugs me so much that I built the Caldercraft HMS Agamemnon with full guns and carriages on the lower gun decks.. Good news that CAF models has not gone that direction. Keep the pics coming. its great to see your progress. MIKE
-
Yves: Does that kit provide for full guns and carriages on the lower gun deck? just curious how the guns will laid out on the lower deck. Mike Draper

Rick: That would be cool to visit and see all of their models. Did you happen to get any information on the release date of the Surprise kit? Also,, found there is 2 Agamemnons in the Yukon. Found another fellow ship modeler north of 60. Its good to know Im not the only one alone in the wilderness. MIKE

Everyone: Its been a while but I have managed to get the all of the square sails on the Agamemnon. While there is still some rigging to do on the square sails I am holding off on that until I can get the stay sails on her and then I will finally see the light in the end of the tunnel. Its been a slog in making any progress but its good to see it starting to come together... Especially with the Winchelsea waiting in the wings!

Kevin: I wouldn't get jaded by comments from FB.. as they say.. consider the source.. 😃 In any case, I do want to mention I was impressed on you obtaining the necessary information in order to construct the lower deck area. I will be keen to see you get back to the Enterprise. Keep up the good work. Mike Draper

Kevin: Makes total sense from my perspective! 😀 I have to say you have taken on a arduous task "infilling" the lower deck on the Enterprise. Im going to find the kit a challenge in itself! Good luck and keep the posts coming. Mike Draper

Kevin: I have been following your build log for the last while as I have this kit in the wings as a project down the road. I read the few posts and I was wondering, why did you need a replacement upper deck? Did your additions of the lower deck change the configuration of the upper deck? Just curious. Mike Draper

kit review 1:120 USS Susquehanna - WoodyJOE
Kusawa2000 replied to James H's topic in REVIEWS: Model kits
Clare: One piece of advice.. if you are going to use paint to colour the wood on your woody joe kit (the japanese cedar is very bleached in its colour), I would recommend puritan pine Minwax stain for the natural wood colour and Vallejo or other pigment paints for the grey roof and white paneling. I think any acrylic or enamel paint would be too thick for the cedar wood that is provided. I also have 2 Woody Joe kits waiting to be built. 🙂 They are a nice break from rigging and they are a real topic of conversation when on display. I also found them a great souvenir if you have had a chance to visit Japan. Mike Draper Whitehorse, Yukon -

kit review 1:120 USS Susquehanna - WoodyJOE
Kusawa2000 replied to James H's topic in REVIEWS: Model kits
I have bought several of there temple kits and the kit of the Yamato and there work is amazing. The wood is well cut and the instructions are pretty intuitive even though they are in japanese. I dont know about there ship kits but if the temple kits are any indication I would recommend them very highly. Here is a pic of the Joruji Temple model I built a few years ago. -
