  1. You could add plastic wood. I did that successfully on an old Model Shipways kit.
  2. US addresses only please so I don’t have to go to the post office thanks.
  3. TAKEN. Any want this? Send me your address and I’ll mail it free of charge. Otherwise I am trashing it. wife and I are doing what the Swedes call “death cleaning”
  4. “As I'm genetically unable to simply build a kit as provided, I'm trying to build her as USS Thatcher DD-514, as she appeared” i have the opposite problem. I have trouble building a plastic model as intended.
  5. Awesome work at that show. I was particularly impressed by the dioramas.
  6. ”Your work is a great inspiration for me. Looking forward to your build log entries. Keep up the good work. ” thanks for the nice comment John. I appreciate it very much. Ron
  7. Almost finished the tryworks. Waiting for the paint to dry on the doors.
  8. I’m not sure if I like this base or not. I may end up just getting a regular wood one from Model Expo. The map is a strip from an old whaling map showing where to find various species.
  9. Inserting the tryworks pots is a bit of a challenge. They are wider in the middle than at the top lip. So one cannot simply cut a hole and drop them in. The photos show my solution.
  10. I am constructing the tryworks now. The bricks are an embossed sheet of HO scale bricks. One gets the mortar lines by painting with a white or grey and then wiping the paint off. A residue remains in the joints and gives a pretty good look.
  11. Thanks. I had to toss 2 tries before I got this one. I thought about leaving the door open and doing some inside detail, but it was hard enough getting the outside to fit.
  12. Fitting the crews head. It’s just about right. Needs to be painted. Man was that a ##$$&f**&$ job. Cut and fit cut and fit cut and fit....
  13. I fished the little companion way and built up the bow sprit bits. I wanted to make sure the bits were positioned properly so I roughed out the lower part of the bow sprit to rest fit.
  14. She is now mounted, at least temporarily, on pedestals and the supplied baseboard. I’ve been thinking about using a decoupage technique to put some whaling scenes on the board.
  15. I have always had a fascination for the B17. It may have come from the fact that my first boss, after graduating from college, was a math prodigy who told me he taught navigation to B 17 pilots.
  16. I have no financial interest in this book. I purchased a copy on a sale table at Sundog books in Seaside Florida. I love the pictures and it has great short summaries of famous boats like Slocum’s Spray and Chichester’s Gypsy Moth. I heartily recommend.
  17. So sorry to hear this Danny. You are an artist
  18. I have a Laughing Whale kit of the Spray. I was going to start it while working on the C W Morgan, but I have decided that I can not face another plank-on-frame kit. This kit lists for $180 at Bluejacket. I will let it go for $100 + shipping costs. It is complete, all the bags sealed and the laser cut parts still in their shrink wrap.
  19. I have been using this slip for a while. I have 2 major issues. 1. The nuts tend to round out the hex holes over time. I had to super glue several in place I order to tighten pieces. 2. The two end MDF end clamps are delaminating. I have squeezed glue into the spaces and fixed them, but they just delaminates somewhere else. The super glue is stronger that what ever is used to hold the MDF together. i spite of these flaws I hav used the building slip successfully. Check out my Charles W Morgan build log to see it in action.
