    I lost a canopy once. Found it a year later in the face mask for my lathe hanging on the opposite wall from where I was working!!

    How do you keep everything organized? I tend to lose small parts when I am working multiple kits.

    Search Model Expo for a nail driver. I’ve had one for 30 years. A great tool for pushing small nails. Drilling a small hole prevents splitting. Also, I saw an identical driver at Ace Hardware at about $5 cheaper than Model Expo while doing a quick Google search this morning.

    Just yesterday I searched the build log database for the Spray. I have the Laughing Whale kit and have been thinking of starting it soon. So your build log is quite timely. I will study your progress with much interest.

    Actually my Model Shipways came with tape. I am cutting the tiles individually 😬. It takes a lot of time, but I think it is a better look.

    Thanks for the comment and the photo. I visited the Morgan at Mystic many years ago but I don’t know where any of my photos are. 😞 Where is Barre MA? I spent the first 23 years of my life in Saugus, MA, a Boston suburb. I thought about trying to add rivet/nail detail but decided anything I did would be grossly out of scale.

    It is quite tricky to get a nice flow in the compound curves at the stern. I tried to let the copper tiles tell me where they wanted to flow naturally. The real challenge will be to duplicate the pattern on the port side. Good thing one will only be able to one side at a time. If it doesn’t match exactly I doubt anyone would notice. Also, the instructions state that the actual pattern for the copper is unknown. So...who’s to say I am wrong? it is actually much smoother in reality than the weird reflections would imply.

    I am making progress. I estimate that I have put about 20 to 30 hours into the coppering over 10 days. And a recommendation for peace and quiet in a natural setting. You can’t do much better than Fanning Springs State Park, 10 miles north of Chiefland, Florida. Their cabins are fantastic; two bedrooms, full kitchen, big lounging area, a gas fireplace and a screened porch on 2 sides.

    Hi John 

    where in Maine are you. Wife and I grew up in Massachusetts and had many a wonderful trip to Maine. We camped at Camden Hills State Park as recently as the summer of 2018 on the way to PEI Canada.

      My wife and I moved here from California in 2016 when I retired. We have grand children in Massachusetts. We are in Biddeford, just south of Portland. We love going up to Camden, their schooner fest was great. I got interested in Tall Ships modeling after we moved here. Great past time for the winter months. We have been up and down all this coast line from Plymouth Mass to Lubec Maine in the summer months. Would like to get up to Nova Scotia and take a ride on the Bluenose.

      Nova Scotia is beautiful. Had great trip there years ago. Never got to ride the Bluenose, but we did get a schooner ride in Bras d’or lake.

      The  maternal half of my family are all from NS. 
      All things considered we think Prince Edward Island is nicer to visit. It’s like driving around in a post card.

    Port side lower band of copper has been laid. I have started the starboard side.

    I am partial to “Slap ya Mama” but Tony’s all we could find in the keys😀. I have finished the lower band. Should have pictures in a couple days. We are traveling from St Pete Beach to Fanning Springs State Park today.

    178 copper plates installed. 100000000000 to go. My workbench is the kitchen table.

    It’s a rainy day in Bahia Honda State Park. Perfect time to start coppering the hull. The pelican was out on Dry Tortugas.

    We’ve been spending winters (Januaryish to aprilish) in Florida for the past 14 years or so. In a travel trailer until this year. Since were both in our mid seventies we now prefer hotels and nice cabins. Florida is wonderful until May. Then it is just to darn hot! We could never live here year round. I will say that Florida has just about the best state parks we’ve seen and we’ve stayed in more than 1/2 of the states in the US. Our favorite is Grayton Beach State Park. This year we will stay in one of their cottages. We love the white sandy beaches all along the panhandle.

    I think I used the wrong paint on the second coat and the plastic crazed up. Sanding would have remove detail. It was no longer a fun job

    The wife and I are heading off to Florida for a bit of sun and shrimp. I've packed up the hull, the copper strips, some sharp knives and the plans and hope to have her coppered by the time we return.

    latest on the A-6 Intruder is that I totally messed up the painting and sent it to the circular file. No more aircraft for me for a while.

    Definitely need to do that. The finished deck was a bit uneven but sanding corrected that.

    Deck is finished and oiled. I think I will sand it lightly and do a second coat. Also got the first coat of black on the hull.
