I was initially surprised at the number of ventilation pipes on the ship. But then it hit me, at the time she was built she most likely didn't have any air conditioning below decks.  It would have been hotter'n hell in there! So lots of pipes to bring in fresh air.

    Thanks guys .

Finishing off the top of the funnel involved scratch-building some Baffles, which weren't even mentioned in the kit , and also the "Grating" at the top. The grating took some very careful cutting. I re-inforced it with a wipe of CA on it's under side after I'd cut it out :

Before I started the masts and rigging I toted my Granado kit around the country camping. Everything fit into a large toolbox. I chose one that was more than 24" inside dimension since that was the length of all the wood pieces. The fittings I kept in a plastic Plano tackle box.  I worked on it from Florida to Montana to Prince Edward Island, Canada over several years.  However, once the masts went in it stayed in my workshop.  Too much danger of damage at that point.

I then routed all the wiring and fiber optic lines that were being mounted under the hangar bay deck. Verified the lighting and installed the lower hull.

At this point I realized due to the routing and wiring the flight deck and island needed to be put on the hull together. This required the hangar bay to be filled and detailed first. I started with hangar bay 2 which was home to the A-7 aircraft of VA-37 and VA-105. I scratch built a cockpit maintenance platform and cut one canopy to show the canopy raised. Tom's Modelworks photoetch details were added to all aircraft. All the decals were made by me except for the EA-6B's. Star Fighter decals were available for these and the deck tractors. Anyone who has been on a US Navy aircraft carrier at night will remember working in the yellow glow of the hangar bays.

Yes. Dafi is who I get my photo etch stuff from.
I have the draft numbers on the rudder which I think is a mistake.  These numbers are cool details I try to add.

I ended up putting them all on individually.  I just bought the parts/plates I needed from Dafi.
What I need are 1/100 scale fittings.  Blocks, barrells, figures.

My serving machine broke. kind of stuck on being able to do rigging.

(2019 now) I am now really regretting putting those draft numbers on the rudder!

Thanks Jason. It turns out the ensign that I was experimenting with is the correct one.

Meanwhile I have been trying to stow the anchors - which at this late stage has turned out to be very frustrating indeed.  The process lends support to my contention that evolution, if it does its job properly, will result in humans eventually having three hands: one, to hold an object, and the other two to do the work.  At the moment nothing is finally tied off, and I can see in the first two photos there is a bit of stray thread hanging near the middle of the anchor, and i neeed to reposition the knot a little.

The second (kedge?) anchor is a pain.  Tying off the lower end is straightforward.  Where to tie the fluke end is a mystery  - to me at least.  The only place I can see is the rail and that does not seem to be very satisfactory at all.  At the moment the thing is held in position by gravity and grave threats to its existence.

Suggestions are invited - indeed, are compulsory.

The plan is of no help whatsoever.....

....and while having a general whinge, the Granado gun carriages are quite disappointing.  I have ordered some carriages from Syren which seem to be the right size, or at least may be modified to fit.

The workers at he Danubius shipyard had a busy week tearing out the funnel braces and replacing then with sturdier material--styrene.  Hope it doesn't melt when they fire up the boilers.  They also completed the 3 ventilation houses between the funnels.

I have been working on and of this kit. For the content of the box and another build of this same kit I refer you to Piet's marvelous build of this same submarine.

I have replaced a few parts in the box: Most of the PE as that was to crude to my taste, and I since I had redundant PE from Musashi, I have used some of that. Whilst sanding the hull, I broke the bollards, so I had some replacing to do, rather easy ... just drill a few 0.2 mmm holes and insert some brass rod, in the end I replaced them all ...

    Added Primer

    First paint layers

A wee bit more work ...

    Cheers
