Well gentlemen after thoroughly going over all the standing rigging I have completed so far I believe I am ready to move on to all the stays and the remaining standing rigging. IMG_6419.mov -

Starting the process of rigging the main topmast shrouds and then the last set of shrouds on the ship the main topgallant shrouds. This will be followed by the last bunch of ratlines. I am seeing half hitch knots in my sleep. Have been curious how to tie an odd number shroud or single tackle pendants. I know there should not be knots tied at the mast, so I often wonder best way to solve this dilemma. Well I found my answer in Anderson’s book. This “knot” solves the issue. Took some practice but eventually I got it several places on my model.

Thanks again Daniel, as always. I feel a bit guilty taking advantage of all the research you have done! Zooming in on your second picture in comment #387 above I can very clearly see the light boxes you have used. I will have to research a small LED spot that comes in different colors with a voltage that can be run on the same circuit.

John after a string recommendation from a Marc I had to come over and take a look. Had not visited before. As many have commented your work is superb and very impressive. Marc helped me throughout my Heller Soleil Royal build. What a beautiful ship she is. I placed mine in a diorama.

Thanks Marc! Really appreciate your compliment. Since we met digitally years ago I have worked diligently using advice from you, Ian, and others to learn and hone the craft. I know I still have miles to go to reach your skill level, if that is even possible. Happy New Year to you and your family as well. -
Very nice Daniel. As I mentioned before I have not tempted myself away from my Endeavour by even opening my AV box! So I have not seen the instruction booklet yet. Is the fifth line metal bar not a step in the instructions, but more an upgrade you are doing? I think that looks pretty cool. Also I notice the ratlines are a different color than the shrouds. I like the contrast as well. Back when we were discussing the lights you commented a lot about the 3 color distinctive lighting that shines up into the mast. I am just curious if those light units are something that the crew sets out each evening or if they are a permanent fixture on the deck. As I scroll around actual photos of the ship I am not sure if I am seeing these light boxes near the mast. Do you plan to affix your LED spot lights to the deck?

Mizzenmast rigged with upper and lower shrouds to include their ratlines, futtock stave and catherpins, and the futtock shrouds with their ratlines. This completes the fore and mizzenmast. Now on to the big guy in middle the main mast. Then will come all the stays and other standing rigging.

Well back to work! I gave the shipyard workers off for the holidays but now time back to work building this beautiful Endeavour. Main mast lower shrouds and ratlines finished since my last post as well as building the mizzenmast. Furled the last square sale with the building of the mizzenmast. Will need to practice the technique for furling the driver sale and the other sales at the bowsprit and between the mast. Will see how that goes in the near future but for now completing all the remaining shrouds, ratlines, catherpins, futtock shrouds.

Thanks again Daniel. I want to mention to you that I have a link to what I think is a really good method of making furled sails. I read in your build a ways back that you were thinking about that if you could find a good method. You can see in my Endeavour build what mine furled sails look like using the method. Good morning Daniel. I have been engrossed in your AV build in my spare time when not working on my Endeavour. I am reading in the area where you applied the rivet decals to the hull. As you punned in your writing, I am riveted by your work. I am familiar with the decals you used. My curiosity is what guide you used for the pattern? I guess how did you determine what the size of the metal plates are on the real AV? Your application precision is remarkable!

My updates are a little slower and further between! The work I am doing now is slow going. It takes precision and patience on my part. Have the main mast lower shrouds in place and starting the ratlines. I use the method of doing pairs of shrouds alternating first on the starboard side and then port side. The Endeavour has 6 main lower shrouds so that takes 3 pairs on each side. I serve the thread a couple inches in the center where it wraps around the mast. At the deadeyes I use a pair of large staples through the holes to keep the upper and lower deadeyes aligned and equal distant down the channel. Once I have the diagonal line of the shroud I continue that imaginary line down through the chain. I am leaving the “ropes” between the deadeyes lose for now perchance I need any final tiny adjustment later.

Yeah, that was kind of my curiosity. If you drilled out the holes before or after you airbrushed the primer? I guess you would almost have to put the airbrush tip right up to the drilled hole before you would ever need to be concerned about getting primer on the LEDs. They are set back a bit from the drilled hole.

Daniel I keep reading and absorbing all your process thru your AV build as I continue my Endeavour build. I have another curiosity you and Mike discuss. When you sprayed the coats of primer on the hull how did you prevent primer from going in all the port holes and getting on your LEDs? Or did you just not worry about it?

Daniel I like the compartment idea if I am smart enough to pull it off. We will see when I get that far. Still need to order my switches. After that I will have all the electronics. I hope to not bug you to much for a while now. Will probably continue reading and reading your build and watching your progress as I prepare to start my AV early next year (Feb-Mar time frame). May toss a question your way from time to time. You have truly been an immeasurable amount of help to me. Thanks for your time and patience.

So it is pretty much a task of calculation to include top and bottom of each compartment. I noticed you said 5mm warm white LEDs. I have 100s of 3mm. You see any issue with using them for the compartments?

Daniel I know I am not supposed to be looking this for ahead. I have a long way to go still on my Endeavour, the majority being rigging. However is reading through your build and watching YouTube videos on the AV. I am curious, and maybe I will find it in your build, how did you determine the dividing point between the two lower decks for your porthole lighting? I know you don’t want light bleeding between decks and you want the LED lights positioned in the hull so they are some how lined up with the portholes on the different deck levels. Will be interesting to read more through your build to see.

About a week since my last update. Kind of slow steady progress. Main mast built with yards and furled sails. Planted in the ship ready for shrouds

Thanks Professor Daniel! I believe you have fully educated me and I am ready for my exam😊👍! Maybe not the final but at least the midterm. On a different note Daniel I am reading thru your Golden Hind and Terror builds. Excellent work on both of them. As a life long woodworker I really admire and appreciate the cleanness of your stain and color applications. It may also be my OCDness! 😊 Your skill graduation from the Golden Hind to the Terror and now the AV is impressive. Great work my friend.

Oh OK. Daniel I was misreading this section of your instructions: The switches should go on the red wire just after the battery or power source and the other side of the switch to a regulator. The black or negative wire should not be connected to the switch. I was curious about that but was taking your instructions as being accurate. Thanks for correcting me. I will edit the schematic again for your thumbs up.
