Hello Again.A very good week.Sometimes things just go right some times they don't.The topsail sheet bitts were not as bad as i had them made out to be.I built the frames for the hatches but the grid I cannot take credit for as they were left over from a kit.
Forward men up the gangway ladder to the gangway,Oh I forgot I don't have those yet

Hello one and all.I finished most of the bow pieces.A real challenge to say the least. The whole thing I did over again, some parts I did Over 3,4,and one piece 5 times.
On this part I used the saw seemed to be easier.Yes and up side down.Dang camara "smile"
This is the steps cut in three pieces.
The rest were cut, sanded.fitted and sanded some more.It takes quite a while to get the fit right
Does anyone know where to start the taper and what the final size is on the bow?
Where to start next?Maybe the keel? Have a nice day/night Larry

I decided to remake the deadwood again. It did come out better. This time I used maple and the finish is much nicer.I will post some pictures to night or tomorrow. Larry

Larry,
I am using Maple for decking on my current build. I've attached a picture of how it turned out for me. It was purchased from Hobbymill.

Thanks Pete, Paddy and Grant.
Hi Ben, OK here is how I do it and is by no means a tutorial on how to do it.
Just a way that works for me.
Here are the tools. The top is a U.J. Ramelson chisel. Next is the x-acto blade
with the tip broken off (usually I get this from the sharp blade as I break the tip
while using it ) and the bottom is a regular x-acto blade.
First I score the beam at the correct location
and then widen it to the proper width using the pointed x-acto.
Next I cut down each side
And then horizontally with the broken tipped x-acto down to the desired depth.
Then I use the chisel to clean it up.
And here is one roughly done. I fine tune them as I cut and fit each piece to them.
I hope this helps.

Nice work Pete
Why is it that I always find out the best way to do something is after I have already done it the wrong way?

Thank you Josh, Rusty,Ron, and Pete.
Rusty I have put my elves to work and we will have 80 by Christmas.
Ron,It is brass.
Pete I know yours need to be bigger.I have called the steel yard and will have the steel delivered.I have also ordered an arc welder.Yours may be a little longer wait.
Sometimes I laugh at my own jokes.
I also tried making some tacked together with super glue then re-enforced with epoxy. This was an easer way.I did this in case I do the the full model.
As you can see below I also made my wife a lovely pair of earrings.
OK, I will stop for now. Larry

Just a small update. Started doing a little of the sanding...time is getting tight since the warm weather has moved in...Gardens and yard work loom ahead, have to get all the mowers and tractors going taking away from the cross section
.
So here are a few pictures of where I am at.............
Took measurements from the plans and transferred to the frames
Marked each frame for the flat to be sanded
Made up a sanding stick with 100 grit long enough to reach from end to end so sanding would be equal for each frame
Pencil marked each frame to gauge when I had sanded down to make the frames level with each other
Check with a straight edge to make sure was sanding evenly
Also used the keesson to check
Once this is sanded to suit me I will replace the temporary block between the frames with the permenant cherry wood.
So back to sanding and yard work.....

All of the knees are now finished and installed. Taking these pictures
I noticed a couple of gaps I didn't notice before. Dang camera's.
Next up will be to cut the notches for the carlings. Normally it's better to cut them
while the ledges are off the model. That doesn't work so well for me. I end up
with carlings that look like they are drunk. So I cut out the plans and glue them
on the ledges and check them with a piece of wood laid over them to make sure
I have a straight run. Them I cut the notches and fit the carlings.
This will take awhile but I'll keep you informed.
