Wow, thanks for the congratulations! I had a great day, and actually had the big party yesterday to have it on a saturday. Today I relaxed a little and took the time to fix the final eight sculptures for the stern. Now its only the two big poles at the sides left. Afterwards I tested the lighting to see how it would look with the sculptures on. As said previously the light doesnt appear blue IRL, but the camera seems to prefer it like that. Cheers mate! Those guys were the ones I had problems wirh. They had some spots that wanted to crack when bending. This time I let my 5 year old help me put on the first coat of skin paint. I like when my kids can be involved and relate to the model. /Matti

Thats a really really nice comment that, even if the model isnt perfect, makes me happy! The look youre giving your Victory is great and beside all the nice details teached me new approaches to model building and painting. I painted King David and his soldiers. I was a bit worried about their design, but they turned out ok. I will start with the ladies below next. /Matti

I know how tricky it is to find a tone to feel happy about. And the red on Vasa is a tricky one. I dont know how many shades I mixed and test painted before I was happy. And then it has to look right against the wood of the hull and that in my case ment redoing the red mix once more. You could of course add dark washes and that would mute them, but the white lines could be hard to get nice, if they are made of paper it could also be a problem as it probably would absorb the washes much more and then look beige or weird. But like I said, I like the look youve gone for and you succeeded with it so dont risk anything please. /Matti

Mark, thanks for explaining how you did it. I agree no fire is better. Water does work well for the ones with only smaller curves, so I will keep doing that when possible. Thanks BE! I do feel that this is the most fun Ive had building models. The only downside I see is the fear of breaking the model as its more fragile then anything else Ive built. Nigel, thats a brilliant way to do it, thanks for the suggestion! I was starting to think of a way to use my heatgun (that is a good tool for shaping plastic) but I was afraid to lose controle of shaping these small items (or burning my fingers for that matter). I will definately try the soldering iron for them, brilliant! Im starting to plan ahead and maybe any of you can give me a hint: What is the best way to get hold of a nice showcase for a ship like this? I like the old style that is like a table with the glass on top. /Matti

Yeah, thats what I did for the stern figures, but I had a really rough time when bending the ones with a great curve. Did you use oiling water for your figures? I get a high risk of breaking the plastic. Yeah the towers feel daunting... /Matti

Thanks for the nice comment Nigel! Im starting to feel nervous about bending the tower sculptures. I had some problems bending the figures that goes below the knights with hot water. The plastic is really tricky to shape into a nice curve, and the galleries/towers have many curves. I will have to go to plan B, low heat heatgun, but I would have prefered the hot water method. Finger crossed! /Matti

Buck, thank you for the great compliment, it made my day! Its still pretty hectic at work, so the building pace slowed down. I feel my neck after painting a few figures as I need to be very still, so its good in a way that I get pauses between the groups. But I feel the itch to continue a lot. /Matti

Thanks Mark, Ill give it a go! Yeah, but the best way for me was to mark every piece on the figure picture included in the plans. That way I could determine wich figures goes where on the stern. /Matti

Yeah, above the helmsman bench theres an angel orchestra. Andre, your rail looks really nice and in tune with the rest of her, I know I have lots of details that is not on the real ship, that I did before getting reference or missinterpreting them or by choice. Heck I even went my own paint job "wrong" on purpose, to get the effect and look I want. I think you can be really really proud of your model. I find it interresting with the small different details on every model. There are some stuff that is different on the 1:10 also, /Matti

Nice touch to make the deamon sculptures. Vasa had no railing there, but it looks interesting. Is it a Corel part or your own design? /Matti

Sorry for being vague. Ive been working realy hard to find out what goes where. The sculptures on the sides are specified, but the ones on the stern is harder to tell. i had to write down each group of sculptures and mark them in the plans to get wich ones are ment to sit above the knights. Now I know, so I can start working. The BB plans includes everything, but you need to think everything through, and jump back and forth to find the answers. /Matti

Then politics and religion came in, the same problem that started the fire in the 30 year war. How is Sweden looked upon in polish history books? Poland is described as a strong catholic force, both military and culturally during our wars. Your cavallerie is also often mentioned. The war between Sigismund and Karl IX and Gustav II Adolf is also a big part of our history.
