Cheers Lawrence and Nigel! Yeah it's a good feeling to move on. I really like the bow on Vasa so I have been longing to start building it. The parts are standard. It seems to fit well, so far anyway. This area is a bit tricky as I had to guess how to build the earlier stages and hope it would work. /Matti

Thanks Michael! It feels great to build some wood again. I have built the ground structure for the bow, and stained and weathered it to blend it with the rest of the ship. /Matti

Thanks Mark! I'll try to get the bow done and try to catch up with your build. Im looking through the reference I have to try to get it right. /Matti

Cheers Lawrence and Nigel! Yeah I'm missing the summer. And I did burn my fingers a few times, but sanding the smsallest figures thin burned me more. /Matti

And... done with the galleries. I feel relieved that I will not have to bend and shape every figure from now on and Im looking forward to do some wood work again. /Matti

Thank you Frank, Per, Mark, BE and Wolf! This week is not as hectic and I would like to get more done on the model. Theres a risk we will get the St Jude storm over here too, so fingers crossed no trees falls down and breaks something. /Matti

Sorry to hear about your father. I lost my dad too a few years back and its a big sorrow on many levels. Ive been thinking a lot of your post. It sounds like it might be good to look for those tools and have a go at building again. It could help sorting all feelings and get that sense of calm from building models. /Matti

Cheers guys, Im glad for your interest! After redoing the window area for the towers and reshaping the tritons, I painted the tall sculptures. They are sanded thin to be in scale. I also painted the smaller ones that sits between the tall ones, but shape and sizewise they didnt look right on her so I will not use them. I mounted the tall figures on the top tower also (its not the way BB made it, but its not to far off compaired to the original this way). It also lets me change the way the tower windows looked earlier. I prefer this look much more. This means Im about 20 figures from being finished with the galleries. /Matti

About the NRG
If you enjoy building ship models that are historically accurate as well as beautiful, then The Nautical Research Guild (NRG) is just right for you.
The Guild is a non-profit educational organization whose mission is to “Advance Ship Modeling Through Research”. We provide support to our members in their efforts to raise the quality of their model ships.
The Nautical Research Guild has published our world-renowned quarterly magazine, The Nautical Research Journal, since 1955. The pages of the Journal are full of articles by accomplished ship modelers who show you how they create those exquisite details on their models, and by maritime historians who show you the correct details to build. The Journal is available in both print and digital editions. Go to the NRG web site (www.thenrg.org) to download a complimentary digital copy of the Journal. The NRG also publishes plan sets, books and compilations of back issues of the Journal and the former Ships in Scale and Model Ship Builder magazines.
