Build log part 51
Update....
the forward boatsdeck ply-sheet is in dry-fit mode, in order to fit the semi-round front part, the slightly raised intermediate podest ( about 5 mm higher than the boats deck, where the boats will be seated), the stairs to the lower bridge level, the positions of the vents, ......
The stair-etch patterns I had were not long enough, so I am making these from longer patterns, ac.. to scale, but that unfortunately does not have rails, so bend and solder from 0,5mm brass wire. The bridge elevation will (not shown here) be reached by an additional upwards pair of stairs....
Nils
longer made stairs
the plank on edge resembles the level of the podest
due to the curvature of the deckhousing roof, the semi round white piece must be glued down later on and secured with two micro screws, that are srewed in here for dry fit already
the pair of face vents will be shortend later on
the support-beams rest on small cut-outs in the two nav-light towers

Unfortunately I cant add to an order already submitted. Its protection for you and your CC's are deleted immediately after the order is finalized.
This is how the traveler ring looks after rigging it. The jibsail and foresail rigging is now completed. All that remains to rig are the two yards....once I make them. That will complete the rigging and then its the final stretch with a few additional details....anchors....flag....boarding ropes......and she is officially done.

Partners are finished. I used 20 lb. test (.01875") monofilament line for the bolts. They seem a bit large, but these are the heads of the bolts. The holes at the corners are for eyebolts. The piece is 36" wide and 52" long to put in perspective. I'm much happier with this version than the first. It's just set on the beams at this stage...not permanently attached.
Continuing to fill in the knees on all the beams. I'm about halfway back from the bow.
Looking way ahead to the rigging, the Grice drawing and the info. from the National Archives shows only (running) back stays and a forestay, but no shrouds for the topmast. No trestle trees (spreaders) appear in any drawing. Does this seem reasonable? My Emma C. Berry has basically the same rig and it has one spreader and one set of shrouds. Any comments?

Hi,
GabeK, thanks. I did see your log during my research but like.you said it's difficult to find the formula for the chocks dimensions. I did find one on the TFFM book but I'm missing one of the variables. I ended up simplifying the formula.
I cut all the frames peices, still can't control the scroll saw properly so some are closer to the line then others.
In the mean time finished the "C" double frame. The second pair has 2 chocks and 2 scarphs. With the mill the scarphs where much easier to make. Still there is a lot of fine sanding with the micro files...
Now to glue everything, sand and then treenails...

Hello,
little update, here are the wrong pieces I must replaced with better ones.
I made building board of old furniture board. Also marked off space for keel( false keel).
Glueing keel with false keel together - I used PVA glue with black acrylic paint - It is not so good visible but maybe it come out with coat of varnish.
Last thing is unify joints for keel in every frame, I fixed frames on board with rectangular attached pin which fits to the groove for keelson. Then sanding until keel fits perfectly to the rabbet.

Happy New Year's to everyone. Brian, I am using mica for my windows. Pat, I actually have put flexible scopes into the hold. There is a lot of sawdust down there! Druxey, the closest I would get to spars would be stub masts. I find rigging horribly tedious.

Between a side project to add more store capacity to my workshop (lots of extra drawers, can't have enough of them it seems) I installed the waterway.
Using card templates to determine the shapes and home build scraper to get the typical profile of the plank (see last pic). The hook and scarf joints were extra tricky as the position of the waterway it self was fixed due to their shapes relative to the hull. So I had to get them right the first time. They all were ok, although sometimes I had to fill a minor gap with a small sliver of wood. The small piece at the bow connecting the port an starboard waterway was challenging.

AnobiumPunctatum reacted to Trussben in HMS Pegasus 1776 by Trussben - 1:48 - Swan-class sloop based on TFFM
I decided to double check my DOF drawing against the Mylar plan for the next set of frames, everything lines up well except the aftmost timberhead and the top of the rail line is slightly higher on the Mylar. Im also cross checking on the actual NMM Pegasus side draft.

The spars are mostly done except to the jaws on the boom and gaff. While waiting on glue to dry for the beams, I put the partners together. They are taken from the plan for the Echo section, although there could be any number of layouts. The carlings are two pieces of 5" x 9 7/8" material, one on top of the other to create a ledge for the cross chock pieces.
The cross chock pieces are mated. The hole for the mast and the step for the spencer will be cut next.
The partners are made from Swiss pear, for a little contrast.
Happy New Year's to all.
Maury
