Thank you for following along on this adventure and for the comments and "likes"....

    Update weekend...

I've added the carlings where there will be a hatchway or ladderway.  Since the French laid their planks and then put the coamings ontop of the deck planking, the carlings will seen.   I've also added the mast partners, the capstan partner (I think that's the right term) and have started making bits and pieces while sorting out the deck planking.   The officer's ladder from the gundeck to the lower deck can be seen laying on the beams, the crew's ladders are in work and both fit in between the main mast partner and the oven on the lower deck.    I was 1/16th of an inch off on the making of the various deck pieces and planning the centerline planking (thick stuff).  It should be 3/32" of an inch instead of the 1/8" I mentioned previously... a miscalculation on my part.  I left the mizzen mast partner at the thicker size to better fit the pantry around it.

Pictures show things ready for the next step.  The second picture is just a reference shot with dummy masts and the capstan in place to get an idea of things...

As always, comments, corrections, and critiques are welcome. I'm still learning this art...

I am Patrick...........we had some major rain last night.   it made for an interesting day/evening....my youngest son had surgery on his knee.   he came through well,  but it really stunk with torrential rain and flooded streets.........and VERY vivid lightning!   today........our oldest son informed us that baby #6 came into the world this morning.   so......yea.......the joint is jump'in

thanks Michael.......coming from you,  that's quite a compliment       I'm hoping to be able to expand it a bit further.  still at odds about what to use for rigging/cable........once I do that,  things should start moving along better

thanks to all who hit the like button:)

yesterday,  I was able to do some of the winch assembly.   at the moment I'm leaving it to the point  I can take it apart,  so I can rig up the spools with rope/cable.   I really want to use the hemp thread.......but it's not uniform in thickness and may not run very well through the blocks.   I have quite a few rolls of the Billing's rigging thread....many sizes in fact......but I'm not happy with the fuzz factor.   I'm not a huge fan of bee's wax either.  perhaps I can treat some of the thread.......I'll have to experiment a little

anyway........I ended up making a gearbox........starting with an oblong piece of wood.  I squared it up and cemented a plate over both ends......one end will lap over the base of the frame.   the edges were rounded off,  and the flats sanded smooth.  the next thing to do,  was to drill the holes for the shaft......but before I did that,  the side I had cemented was removed from the base,  and I made the legs shorter.   I thought it looked a bit too tall.....after both sides were made the same height,  the side was cemented back onto the base.   the process starts again

measuring the assembly,  I got the overall length of the reel.   this was transposed to the base....marked.....and copied for the other side.   the gearbox and the other side was cemented to the base.

....and the excess base was cut off.......

making sure that the holes lined up OK......the shafts were run through.

then I began to cut up some planking....thinking I ought to get the fish box {or fish boxes} in the works.  to begin,  I will cement them three high.......the height of the bulwarks for the moment.  one of them will only be two high......for facing the hold.

I showed these a while back........the keel cut outs from the AmericA build {strange how I know where I got these from}.  I have been wondering when I would find a use for them.   I chose them because they will make ideal posts....some of them are different lengths,  should I have to lower the wall.  I'm sure I will along the bulwarks and hold face.  I need to sort them out.

while I was doing this........the paint was drying........getting the winch closer to a final assembly.

I heard something hit the floor...........one of the booms,  that I had to my left on the folded cloth tarp.  I still need to touch them up.  to keep them out of the way,  I put them in their place on the mast,  tying them up so they wouldn't lay on the bulwarks.   I like the way I did this.....looking like a pulley assembly.  I want to mimic the diagram......but this is kinda cool too

more assembly is in the works for today

To put things into perspective I added a couple workmen to give an idea of how big these engines were.  The upper figure is on the ship's main deck and the lower figure is below deck.  I cannot take credit for drawing the 3D man, I borrowed them from my former place of employment.  The person is roughly 6 foot tall.

    TopMast Trestle & Cross Trees

    Cross Trees

Hand carved from larger section, kept in place with rods at each end(tip from Greg Lester)

Decided to glue the Trestles and Cross pieces as one(1) unit - they are fairly small.
All pieces are checked into each other.
Eack will slide as one unit down the top-mast heads onto the top of the hounds(Hex).
Tip Dave: don't glue the caps on yet !

    TopMast Trees
Made the caps(same as the lower ones, only smaller(much smaller), but with out pins)

    Fit snug onto the topmasts.

Bolsters either side glued in place.

Tapered ends and a hole on end cross tree.

Be a shame to paint these black. ?
    Maybe not ?

Now to a sheave issue or maybe not.
The top mast sections have some sheaves built into them. Different sizes.
I've only managed to get 2.5mm and 4mm diameter x 1mm wide sheaves.
But not sure if I should use them ?

The Mizzen Topmast being a small diameter, can be weakened by the tunneling through to create a sheave recess. So for now I cut a recess either side and a hole top/bottom(for rope to pass through).
How does this look ? Maybe add a pencil led either side for shaft ?

Same for the bottom of the topmasts.
Although a larger diameter, once in place, not used.

Just noticed >> fid holes and pins to make.

Next to make the thin !! topgallant masts, this will be interesting.

Now to start screwing the beast together. It is massive. The bow, hangars and main deck is down. I will get to the sides and forecastle later later next week then do the filling and sanding. The Rear aircraft deck will go on much much later.

I have now finished the interior hangars. A little bit of weathering, rust, grease and drybrushing. Realistically not much will be visible.

Thanks for looking in and commenting Greg and Don - rapidly approaching that point Greg  But, I do need to add the rope coils and two further rigging lines as a minimum - and as I have ordered the Ensign, at least that also.  The other two boats - I am debating these

What would modelling be without these mishaps Sjors?  As long as you see the positive side of it, it becomes a learning experience  Great that Deagostini have supported their product like this.

    Hello.......

    I'm still here I think.
Busy with other things then building but.......I have an update
DeAgostini send me the replacements and I'm back on course.
The stern has her decorations and that's a lot !
    And there is more coming.
I hope that the hull can carry all that metal......
Beware, I say it before and I will say it again, i'm not a painter.
I have done the best i could.
The last picture is just showing you the letters.
It is impossible to paint that so I have give it a layer of gold and blue and when it was dry, I have scratch a little away.
