  1. Ok Boys and Girls… Here it is. Did as much coil work as I dare. I have snagged the rigging so many times it’s a miracle I haven’t snapped parts right off the ship. 😆 I’m calling her finished. Will one of you moderators change the title to FINISHED for me? Thanks again to Paul in Australia for making all the guns and to all the rest of you who helped me along the journey of my first wooden ship build with techniques, critiques and encouragement! Was in no hurry, but I had several months of winter rain that kept me indoors. Keel laid December 4, 2021, launched June 28, 2022.
  2. Hi Greg, I’m certainly not the expert, but I tied all my lines with whipping, just like the real thing. No line is just tied in a knot to an eyelet. I mean I guess you could if you wanted to. There are tons of examples here on the forum about any and all aspects of rigging and how to do it.
  3. Welcome aboard Sir! Good to meet you. 👍😀
  4. Rope coils suck! Just spent 3 hours trying various examples from the forum. No matter what I do, I get coils that do not hang naturally but more like cowboy roping rope. I need some of that twinkle dust that makes the 1:64 scale sailors come to life and coil the ropes on deck. 😳 Have to walk away before I reinvent some language or accidentally break something. 😖
  5. Greetings and welcome Andrew. Go to the New Member Introduction area and introduce yourself. Tell us a little about yourself. This is where you meet the folks. 👍😀
  6. Thanks E Z. I goofed and didn’t catch the fuzzy rope I used. The shellac magic went like this. I weighted the anchor so the lines were taught. Then coated them with shellac, let it dry and then took the weight off the anchor and the lines stay nice a straight making it look like the lines were really holding up the anchor.
  7. I used ca glue on my first build, as advised by some of the masters here on the sight. I didn’t use pins, nails, rubber bands or anything else to hold a plank in position. This is only possible if the bending and shaping of the plank is done to pretty tight tolerances and the plank just sits pretty in its intended spot. Apply some ca glue hold it in position with finger pressure for a couple seconds… on to the next one.
  8. I have a Dremel… just wore one out, bought a new one. Would we all like a rotary tool that could be used by dentists and medical staff? You bet! But we can’t. The name “Dremel” (or any of its locally available cousins) are available in many sizes and shapes with a gozillian accessory tools. I personally have used my Dremel for everything and anything, with great success and accuracy. If the rotary tool you have isn’t cutting the mustard, try a different one. Whatever you have and use… the rotary tool is only half the equation… the users skill is the other half. 😉
  9. My .02… include it all in the build. Your bigger version build log will go a long way to helping me when I start. 👍😀
  10. Hi Daniel, Welcome to the forum! This is the place to learn everything about model ship building. Don’t be shy asking questions. 👍😀
  11. Welcome to the forum! 👍😀
  12. I have… at least 3 times, along with all the Pirates of the Caribbean many times and any of the others that I can find. 👍😀
  13. Hi All, As I follow many of the outstanding examples of nautical history here on MSW, I am continually amazed at the artistry and intricacy that went into the building of a wooden ship that went out to sea and got blasted to splinters. All the carvings, fancy railing, all the way down to the furniture I imagine. I thought about this while watching tall ship movies as the ships got cannon ball-itis, but seeing the examples of ships with their artistry and color that are made here on MSW just makes my head spin. 😀 Its a pleasure to constantly watch and view such wonderful works that keep nautical history alive.
  14. Watching your progress is making me consider doing my Half Hull before I start the Rattlesnake. 🙂
  15. Hi There, Go to the new members thread and introduce yourself. That’s where you will meet the crew, make friends and go from there. 👍😀
  16. Hi Hammer, WELCOME to the forum! 👍😀
  17. Hi Hammer, There are a few things that you will find among ship builders. If you ask an equal number of builders about whether they want sails furled, under sail, or no sails, you will an unlimited number of opinions. This also applies to using ca glue, and using nails for planking. Dig in with your research, study many build logs and then decide what you want to try and go for it. If you build one ship and you don’t like what happened, do it differently on your next. Welcome aboard! 👍😀
