See what happens Bill, you put your feet in the picture and your ship building thread got highjacked with vacation and retirement talk. 😂

Hi Dave, WOW! Simply outstanding! What have you done with all the ships you’ve built? Going to start the Agamemnon?

Hi Doug, Welcome to the forum! 👍😀

Your choice of CA is not a bad one. Step back 3’ and if you cannot easily detect the issue at hand (and you have the eye for it)… standardize from this moment forward if you wish. My .02 for what it’s worth. The ship is beautiful at this point! 👍😀

Decided to hang the starboard anchor... no real reason why. I've seen others do this and decided it fits. Now on to the rope coils. After I took the previous pics, I noticed the lines were not taught on the block and tackle for the anchor, so I tried some shellac magic. It worked. 😁 l

Hi All, I’m asking because you all have the answers. What kind of trees were the ships in the late 1700s made of? Different lumber used in Britain versus the east coast of the US? Then… what species of modeling lumber that we can get best replicates the original builds? Wood that will be painted over, I guess in immaterial. I see may fine models of perfection that are built from perhaps wood that will behave and work better during the building process. Is getting a realistic representation of the wood species actually used done with “weathering” techniques?

About the NRG
If you enjoy building ship models that are historically accurate as well as beautiful, then The Nautical Research Guild (NRG) is just right for you.
The Guild is a non-profit educational organization whose mission is to “Advance Ship Modeling Through Research”. We provide support to our members in their efforts to raise the quality of their model ships.
The Nautical Research Guild has published our world-renowned quarterly magazine, The Nautical Research Journal, since 1955. The pages of the Journal are full of articles by accomplished ship modelers who show you how they create those exquisite details on their models, and by maritime historians who show you the correct details to build. The Journal is available in both print and digital editions. Go to the NRG web site (www.thenrg.org) to download a complimentary digital copy of the Journal. The NRG also publishes plan sets, books and compilations of back issues of the Journal and the former Ships in Scale and Model Ship Builder magazines.
