    Pete, the cockpit and combing really look fantastic! Was the 3 hours for the combing so that it could dry or did you need to just bend a bit at a time? I think shaping those combings are tricky as can be and yours looks great! Cheers, Jay

    Mike, thanks for sharing your approach for fairing your hull! I was thinking the same about curved blocks working better, but I wasn't thinking of using 4. What you said about using 4 blocks makes great sense, and I'll use at least 4 when I get to that step of the build--again, thanks for the tip! Am just starting on tapering to the bearding line.     Looking good, Mike! Did you use a curved sanding block or etc. to fair the bow? I'm currently thinking that's the way to go with the bow but am not sure about how well it will work. Cheers, Jay

    That sucks about the blotching, Elia--hope your fix works! I've had the same thing happen...recently came across stuff called "blotch control wood conditioner." It works much better than pre-stain conditioners for getting more even staining on difficult wood. Cheers, Jay

    Clark, also consider Craigslist or etc. You can get some great deals there as well; I picked up an older model unused Hegner scroll saw, along with its stand and etc., on Craigs for a fraction of what one sells for new--it was an outstanding deal. Cheers, Jay

    Maury, thanks for your insight and feedback on pre-bevel ing--am nixing that idea! Also good to know that a spindle sander is a good-to-have tool for the build...been on the fence for awhile with purchasing one; looks like one will be my next major tool investment (have Jim B's disc sander--great tool).
