  1. Exactly. I made the name up because i liked it. The Revell models of both HMS Beagle and HMS Bounty are horrendously inaccurate, so i had to just make something up.
  2. The fore topsail is now complete. All i had to do was the topping lifts and the buntlines, all of which belay at the forecastle. Next on the list is the main topsail, which should be easier than the fore, especially on the belaying front. I might even get around to painting the yard today, who knows.
  3. By the way, once i am done with the galleon, i plan on building a "small" project inspired by the Perseverance, the 1/96 HMS Botany Bay (modified HMS Beagle)
  4. I would do it now. The more you procrastinate and work around it, the harder it will get when you do it. Trust me, i know.
  5. Note the fact that none of the ships pictured have their topsails hauled all the way up. Another note: The lack of waistcloth on the Spanish vessel indicates that this may have been a surprise attack. It also seems as though they may be frantically hauling up their topsails in a bid to escape.
  6. The bowlines. Can you notice the much more substantial billow? I have set the fore topsail low. However, it fouls neither the lower foremast stay nor its own bowline falls.
  7. Sorry for my absence, I haven't been working on the ship much in the past week. However, i did today. I got the fore topsail yard set with the halyard finished: And the parrel and braces: I will do the bowlines next, to encourage the sail to billow. Then, the clews and sheets. After that, the buntlines.
  8. Drachnifel is awesome. Have you seen his series on the history of the English Navy?
  9. Sorry i failed to comment on this earlier, but the lower heart on the fore lower stay is upside down. It needs to be turned around so the pointy bit is facing the bowsprit. Also, they need to be closer together. Sorry to be such a hardass, but if i were you, i would redo the entire fore lower stay. I guess it might just be OCD. It's how i learned. I still screw up rigging all the time. The good thing is, it's one less mistake you'll have to worry about. A diagram: The bottom one is facing the bowsprit, and the top one has the actual stay seized round it. P.S. Your bowsprit lashings look phenomenal! I couldn't do a lashing that well to save my life. I hate to focus on your errors, because overall your Perseverance is a fine beauty, and you're doing her justice and living up to her name. As far as i am aware, your stated goal is to learn, and i believe that is of high praise. However, the way you learn is by not getting away with anything. If i didn't call you on every error and tell you how to fix them, i would simply be a bad mentor. However, i am surprised at your incredible craftsmanship and general lack of errors; I can hardly believe this is your first rodeo. My final point is unequivocally my most important: Do not ever devalue yourself or your work. Doing so is a recipe for catastrophe. You are just as valuable a shipwright as any of us- the "better" modellers simply have the luxury of decades of experience and fine-tuning. If you ever feel stuck in a pit, you can always shoot me a personal message, and i will be there to listen and guide you as best i can.
  10. Mind you, the ship itself is actually in about 1/64 scale- wrongly labelled by Revell.
  11. I'm jonesin' for my modelling fix. It's like crank for me, i just can't do without for long. So, i have a question for you all. Many of Vroom's paintings show what appears to be an extremely small topgallant sail on one of the masts. This seems to be the perfect picture. This is the only one i could find where the topgallant sail did not have a harbor furl, his usual depiction. Our ship has topgalants on both masts, as this is a much larger ship than the relatively small Dutch fluyt depicted here. So, the question is, should i depict the topgallants as being fully raised, or should i put them in the process of being unfurled and raised, like in this painting?
  12. I love how you painted your ship the way you paint your Warhammer minis. (yes, i have done both, look at my name) I never really got into the advanced techniques like shading and highlighting, and i haven't painted Warhammer minis in, like, 4 years. I need to though, because i would like to paint a ship like that.
  13. From what i've heard, Chris Watton is an absolute legend, and will be happy to help you. I'm pretty sure he actually designed the Lady Nelson. Basically everyone says he's the best of the best, and the kits prove it.
  14. I'm doing a lot better today. I was able to go fetch my dad some gum from the gas station and get myself a coffee. However, he is sick with covid. He is 61, but he has no underlying conditions nor does he have a weakened immune system. He's pretty sick today, but we're both sure he'll be better tomorrow. Either way, i'm taking care of him.
  15. Isolation goes through tomorrow, and by then i shouldn't be contagious. Thank you all for the kind wishes of both celebration and recovery. Once i get better, i'm gonna throw a late birthday blowout (me and a few family members going to a pizza joint) I got the first two jabs in 2021 because the gov't said i had to. Other than that, nothing. And so far, my own immune system has proven perfectly capable of handling this with no issues. I guess it was smart of me to change my diet to include healthier foods.
