Robert... looks like you know what to do with the lights.. Wiring is my downfall.  Check in on Pompeii's build. He is savvy with the light circuits etc. Way better than what I've done... and he has a great build. He get's to go see the real Victory any day he wants as he lives in historic Portsmouth. At the rate I'm heading these days you will be ahead of me in a couple months... then I can get some tips from you on those steps I've not done/attempted. Enjoy your build. We will too.

    And a few more.
Now ready to start raising the Yards.
But I considered that once the rigging was all done, cleaning off the dust would be more difficult.
So decided to have a good spring clean before starting Yards.
I use a piece of rigid plastic tube about 1/4" dia taped into the end of a standard vacuum cleaner.
It still gives a pretty good suction.
Then I use a soft brush to brush off the dust with the tube right up behind.
So this is where I stand before the Yards and once cleaned up.

And so onto the first yard, the Fore Mast Yard.
held with a pin and a small drop of epoxy to the mast.

    That's the lot for now
    Thanks for dropping by

All the standing rigging now done.
I moved on to thinking about the Yards
To make things as easy as possible and to avoid clumsy hands breaking things i wanted to do as much of the running rigging either off model or on yards before fitting.
    Yards are at this stage

I made up all of the loose rigging beforehand.
like the Fore yard Sling parts

And the hooked blocks with/without pendants.

I also went through all of the running rigging a bit at a time and added standing ends etc to (already fitted) blocks where required. Drilled a few missed sheave holes through masts and hull, trucks in shrouds, eyes with blocks in sides, fixed blocks in slings etc.

    Will continue

    It's already got three claimant's.
Maybe we should chip in as the Brits put it where it is.
And Peru and Bolivia as it was their gold originally.
And then the Caribbean islands are not that far away so....
Any chance of reward brings out the sharks as it were.

I cut up small squares of clear scrap plastic sheet (something semi rigid)
Then put a pin hole through two of them in the centre.
Push the line through one hole, then put the second square against the first trapping the line between.
Put a pin through both holes.
Now you can wind the line around the pin between the bits of plastic, the two pieces of plastic stop the line overlapping (keep them tight together)
As you go dab a drop of watered down PVA on the line.
The squeeze will push the glue to adjacent coils.
    Leave to dry, remove pin.
The plastic does not stick to the glue so the coil can be easily taken off and trimmed up.
I actually make a bunch of plastic squares and consider them disposable, that way the pin holes don't start to open up and become loose.

Terrible admission, I use a sanding tube in my dremel to get off the majority (end bulkheads at least) then resort to sanding by hand.

pompey2 got a reaction from mtaylor in Imperial or metric for lathes and mills?
My opinion - conversions are easy, buying tools, accessories etc. is not so easy unless they are local(ish) and current.
So going with the system that gives better choice, price and availability in the future has to be preferable.
    So metric for Europe/UK.

I like the simple thickness sander.
It wouldn't be that difficult to make a version yourself, use a dremel as the power source.
I will have to give that some thought.

I also like a disc sander but my large one has very poor levels/guides.
I need something with the sort of control that Jim B's has.
