  1. Looks great! I’m going to have brake out my daughters sewing machine and learn how to use it.
  2. Still working on the bottom planking, slow progress but will get it done. Some of the areas near the front and back the planks need to be slightly twist, so I cut the planks to length soaked in hot water until the planks could be twisted then I used CA glue and held the planks down until the CA sets. Seems to work ok.
  3. I think everything is here , I should have looked closer to material list . I do like the kit, the hard part was getting the sides on right, the spreader bar I think is to low so I raise the bar up higher and got the sides on better.
  4. Yes, I like their kits, I will build more. I started to glue the two keel parts together when it wouldn’t line up, I looked at the precut keel and it was a little warped. I soaked the keel in hot water for 15 minutes, then clamped down tight to my rod building lathe. Then I traced out the side with the plans and graphite paper, then cut out with sharp carving knife.
  5. The Wye River Models Crab Scraper boat looks like a pretty good model. It very good plans and a great instruction book with a lot of good pictures of the different steps. I think it’s short some of the wood need to build the model, but that’s ok I’ll go to hobby shop and buy some. I’m looking forward to build this model because these are the kind of models that I want to build.
  6. I do about the same thing with my clamps, I hold a strip of wood against the plank ,then push the clamp down tight on the bulkhead and push up tight to the plank. I like your planking it looks great. Hey CiscoH, I live in Newport, any wooden model clubs in Delaware?
  7. I use a single stage Pasche airbrush and a portable air compressor on wheels that I bought at Home Depot for $150 . Then I use a regulator with quick disconnect fittings on the regulator and airbrush. That way I can connect the compressor to the regulator and connect the airbrush.
  8. I always use a acrylic thinner for Model Expo paints , but they need 3 coats to get good coverage. I don’t have a problem with their paints, but will try AK Interactive paints or Tamaya paint. I use laundry detergent to clean my brushes and airbrush. They come out nice and clean and soft. I put a little detergent in my hand and scrub my brush in it then water.
  9. Wow, great job. Your model looks fantastic! I hope that someday my modeling gets as close to your modeling.
  10. Looks like you are doing a great job. I like the looks of that kit, may buy one myself. I just bought the Red Baron from Bluejacket.
  11. Wow, the model is looking great! The copper plating looks very time consuming. I was thinking about building this model next after I finished the Muscongus Bay lobster smack by Model Expo. I think I’ll build the Yankee Hero and then the Revenue Cutter.
  12. I got a email yesterday from Model Expo and they said my parts are in the mail.
  13. Yes, it is a very good kit. I started the same way. Got the first two models done without any problems. I started the lobster smack and right doing the instructions on first step I glued the parts for the keel and something didn’t seem right. I realize that there was a miss print in the directions, it gave you the wrong sheet number for the main part, but called it the right part in the directions. I should have read it more carefully. I email Model Expo and order the sheet numbers I needed. They said they would get the parts out. I’ve been waiting 3 weeks to hear that they have shipped the parts.
  14. Here are some of my builds. I bought Model Shipways Shipwright kit and also BlueJackets Skiff. It’s a lot of fun. Working on the Muscongus Bay lobster smack, but following the instructions it said part from sheet 5 but it was the wrong part. I emailed Model Expo and they are going to send me the parts. Cuda1949 I spent a lot of my youth in Selbyville.
  15. I just started this kit too and I started off the same by using the wrong side. Thought something wasn’t right when the printing on the wood was on the inside. I tried to unglue it with alcohol but it warped bad and then broke . I emailed Model Expo and they are going to send me replacement parts free. I need to look more carefully. I will keep working on the model by working on the sails and masts.
  16. Just joined a month ago. I started building model ships this summer. I built 3 small ships so far and have been enjoying it very much. Anyone else from Delaware?
