  1. Hello Andreas, and a warm welcome to the forum from another Sydneysider. John
  2. When I was at sea, we called 'guest warps' ropes or wires that were rigged on the ship's side for other craft to make fast to while loading of discharging cargo to or from our ship. John
  3. Thanks Ian. It turns out that there are a second pair at the after end of the forecastle. Still a puzzle, but I've fitted them and we'll see if anything else turns up. John
  4. Ian, were these vessels engaged in any particular trade? A possibility is 'guest warps', used to secure boats that are loading or discharging cargo from the schooner. Not the usual configuration for 'guest warps', but at the moment I can't think of anything else. John
  5. Worth the time its taking, Vaddoc. That planking looks really good. John
  6. Hello Steve, and a warm welcome to the forum from 'Down Under'. John
  7. Hello, and a warm welcome to the forum from 'Down Under'. John
  8. Hello Kamil, and a warm welcome to the forum from 'Down Under'. John
  9. Those Fairmiles were beautiful looking boats Pat. Interesting to see her as a ferry, but the motel unit is a bit of an insult, I think. That looks a good job on the diagonal planking. John
  10. A landmark day (of sorts) on Monday, with half the square sails now rigged (apart from their braces, of course). I should get the main lower topgallant crossed either Friday or Monday, so she's looking more and more like a sailing ship and less like an abandoned wreck! John
  11. Thanks for the update, Keith. Don't know why you're whinging about not being back in the workshop until Autumn - it's already Autumn - cold and rainy!! 😀 John
