dvm27 got a reaction from Canute in End mills (micro) Vendor source
I use carbide end mills, preferable 3/4" length. If you've never used MSC direct it's a great resource. Next day delivery and millions of choices. For example

Thank you all for your support and encouragement.
Since it seems that winter does not want to let go in these parts I might be able to spend a bit more time working on the cutter alongside the restoration work which I should technically working on diligently in the day time hours.
But it is evening.
I am also beginning to get back to the compass and am working on the glass viewing and access port. the first task is to cut the foundation ring for the oval support that the lid will hinge off.
The copper dome was inverted onto a scrap of .031" (.8mm) brass sheet by inverting the dome and scribing a line to mark the inside diameter of the ring.
Next will be to fret out the hole and then use the hole as a guide with an odd-leg divider or caliper to scribe the outside of the line parallel to the inside hole.

Lovely work, as ever, Keith. Your brass work is polished to perfection. What steps do you take to achieve the mirror-like finish?

Great gratings Johann. What type of blade are you using to cut your brass sheet?

Lovely capstans, Marsalv! It does make one wonder about the practicalities of manning the lower capstan bars when both are required for the task at hand.

Joss: the standard and extension were generally smaller, along the lines of the image I've taken the liberty of drawing over. The narrow 'wear' strip along the fore edge was made to be easily replaceable. Feel free to ignore my suggestions!

All,
We have relocated from Hancock, NH to our home in San Diego, CA. I have also kept busy with my full size 1:1 scale shipbuilding projects. I am now setting up my shop and hoping to return to modeling in the near future. First project will be to rig the Brigantine Newsboy 1854 and complete the 14 Gun Brig Fair American circa 1780.
Regards,
Pete

Hello
Albert, Jim, Greg, Carl and Thomas,
thanks for the kind words, and all others
for the LIKES.
@ dvm27
Hi Greg,
I use these saw blades.
It is also important that the saw blade have 32 teeth.

I got a bit of time today to finish the goosenecks. Machining followed a similar process to that used for the mast bracket.
The rounding of edges was done by hand filing.
I then made the pivot pin - turned on the lathe out of .090" bar and drilled with a .040" hole on the mill. I then did a bit of polishing.
I am accumulating a lot of mast fittings - but it will be soon time to get on with assembling the masts.

Let me introduce to you the master who makes boats for me. In the photo the master with his "little boy" Le Francois. I can trust this master ... Now it's obvious.
The name of the master is Yuri Gaidar.

Hi Chuck,
I would suggest the use of sharp gouge and chisels finished off with flexible sanding sticks. If the deck is low or lacks camber, you can build it up as shown below. You will find more pictures on carving and working with solid hulls in my Brigantine Newsboy of 1854 build log here at MSW.
Regards,
Pete
