  1. Ekis,

Very, very nice. I can see where the staircase is going to take some work to build. But of course you’ve hired all the very best artisans from near and far to construct a house befitting a lord. Do you have any plans of giving the stone work some sort of subtle tonal washes to accent the various structural features when it’s completed?

  2. Ekis,

Just teasing. The journey is still a pleasant one. Just don’t get the idea that you can slack off! For me history is not about dates and facts, but what an individual actually experienced at the time, comparing that with what I have experienced. In the end it’s much more the same than not. So get busy, and bring us to the next chapter. Remember you have a responsibility.  😁😁

  3. Ekis,

This must be a very satisfying journey, creating your village. You have really mastered this medium very well. It’s a pleasure to watch the progress, but it’s very hard to wait for the updates! The entire project has become a work of art. I have always loved dioramas ( which in a sense this is) because you have a much better connection to the subject than a stand alone model can bring. I can’t wait for the street level tour. Gotta get a GoPro. I would especially like to see the village during Advent or Christmastime. Being a creator comes with certain responsibilities, it’s not all fun and games!

  4. Ekis,  I hope you had a good vacation. That is a great kit and you have done a wonderful job . There are so many interesting subjects to build in scale. It’s nice to not be completely locked into a particular genre, as there are so many more possibilities to explore. Very nice work. I also like the photo of the original. I would love to visit the area.

  5. Ekis,

I tried to respond to this about 3 hours ago on my IPad, typed it out hit send, and I don't know where it went because I lost my internet connection, so I'll try again.

EG is entirely correct. You were entirely correct. The only place I've actually heard the Lord's house ( with a capital L ) mentioned was actually in church and was called that by the priest or pastor conducting the service. That's why the connotation immediately came to my mind. Also, I haven't met too many actual lords around where I live, definitely in my particular neighborhood. There are some gated communities though, which I'm not allowed into so maybe some live there. I'll never know.

As far as the structure goes I guess around where I live it would probably be thought of as a noblemen's house (we don't have any of those either). I would normally think of it as a manor or mansion or an estate. Ordinary people live in a house, the gentry in something much grander. (( not that any of us is ordinary, especially you or me! (sarcasm) )).

Again, none of this was a criticism in any way.

  6. I love the line drawings! I used to do some arcitectectural renderings ( actually modify them) when in college for an architect my best friend worked for. Naturally way before computers. I always admired how some people could make a pencil or pen create magic. My niece is extremely good at it. Actually is your own drawing done on computer? I actually had gotten Blender to try and teach myself but never went anywhere with it. Maybe I should look in to it again.

  7. Ekis,

Once again this building appears to be the most interesting one of all. Based on your drawing of it, it would even be nice as a stand alone project, maybe in twice the scale of the village. That would be of course in addition to the present one. That would make a cool  vignette. Just the buildings facade in a shadow box. I might try something like that. Not anywhere near as ambitious, but with a greater likely hood of completing it. You have got me thinking ( a very unusual  occurrence to be sure.)

Do you have any particular pictures of your inspiration to show us like you did with the oven?

Looking forward to the next update.

    Regards,

  8. Ekis,  The oven takes the prize so far for the most interesting building. The street level views really look great. So what is next to do? Are you bouncing around to different parts of the village to keep things “fresh”, or do you have a planned sequence? Have you surprised yourself yet by going in a completely different way than you had envisioned things? It sure looks like fun.

  9. Egilman,

I was just asking Ekis if he personally had. I have myself in the past. I personally like the two part epoxy putties. They can get expensive if that’s all you are using though. The reason I had asked is I was considering trying a to build a tower or keep and was trying to figure if there was enough in the kit to get by with.  I didn’t ask my question correctly in retrospect.

  10. Ekis,  I know you modify the size and I am assuming the shape of the kits building stones supplied? Have you ever found the need to make unique stone shapes from Sculpy, clay or epoxy putty to satisfy a special situation? I would think sometimes that could be easier than grinding or cutting a shape. I guess it might not be desirable though, since the real stones wouldn’t have been constructed that way.

  11. Ekis,  This is a very interesting building. I have a question for you, if I may.  You discuss the “removal” of the oven In the beginning of your post today.  I don’t understand what you are referring to.  Is it currently obstructing the building of the structure? Does it currently not appear as you had envisioned it should? It appears the same.

I look forward to all your updates.
