thanks all for the kind words......yea, we could all do without these little problems.......but, if there weren't any, it would be a boring hobby {and I hear you on that Mark!}
now that the smoke cleared....I finally cemented all of the other pre made parts in place. placement of the ship's boat is next, along with the chain boards and dead eyes.
the mizzen is dry fitted at the moment.
thanks for the like and for looking in. I really got to get back on the Titanic.......would be nice to clear that table it will make fore a great diversion, while I work on the chain boards.

Thanks Tom. Not exactly "clean bill of health" yet, but much better. More like a "remission" stage at this point. Still on some powerful antifungal meds for another several months.
The best news is that they stopped the spread toward my brain, because I do not have much in that area to spare.

Thanks for the "likes" and comments everyone.
Life keeps getting in the way of this build right now... I think we need a blizzard and I need no distractions. Fat chance of that though.
Just a minor (for ship.. big one for me)... 14 strakes left on the main hull planking and I won't need any drop planks other than the one I've already done at the bow. Just some careful fitting as I continue working towards the keel. The last plank will need to be a bit wider than the rest of the planking but not as wide as the garboard plank. I'm smiling.....
Work also continues on the plug for the ship's boat, albeit even more slowly than on the planking. Carving is on hold until time frees up a bit.

When you copper a ship's hull nobody will focus on an individual copper plate - it is the overall impression of the hull that counts. And yours looks very good!

Been working on the copper plating. Going very slow. I'd hate to show a very close-up pic of the plates. I am having a very hard time not bending them. Mine look very beat up in some spots.

What do you guys think about the idea of putting a coating of Minwax Wipe On Poly over the copper plates to protect them from damage? I am only at Chapter Four of my SYREN build, and will need to deal with this at some point in the future. I'm glad to be aware that those copper plates are so delicate.
On a somewhat related topic, I visited the USS Constitution a couple of weeks ago. She is in drydock for re-fitting, including a new copper bottom. At the nearby visitors museum they offer the opportunity for you to etch your signature into one of the new copper plates that will go on her bottom. Of course I had to do that...I think it is kinda neat.

Update....
A good solid couple of days in the shipyard.
First, applied a second coat of white to the hull. Getting better, but still needs another sanding and repainting.
Next, the windless. Of course, the UNC blue still employed. But, I think it kinda grows on you after a while.
Then the hawse hole plates....
Finally, I added the stern post board.... cut out the rudder and also cut out the rudder hole, which was a very nerve racking task.
Now I'm creating the gudgeons and pintles. Of course, these will be covered with black straps after the rudder is painted white.
And here is the mounted rudder assembly.... very pleased with the strength of the gudgeons and pintles.

Hi Gents,
Thanks guys for your comments and remarks, also for all who hit the "like" button, their all very much appreciated.
Its update time again.
The deck area is now completed, I started rigging the guns before placing onto the deck, the Breech ropes were measured and the ends were then whipped into the ringbolts, the blocks are 5mm singles ( these blocks were made by Grant for my Agamemnon and were left over from her ), one block x 4 was tied to eyebolts and glued onto each gun carriage. These were then put aside.
24 Ring Bolts, 4 Kevel Cleats,4 Cleats and 2 Entry Port Ladders were made up and then fitted, I didn't take any pics of these items as they are a pretty standard item. The Kevel Cleats on the Sheer Rail are of 3/32 Ebony and is a very simple shaping exercise, the remaining Cleats are 3/32 Red Heart and again are a very simple shaping exercise, these cleats were drilled and fixed in place using glue and pins.
The Gun Carriages were glued into position, the Hooks on the running tackles were positioned and the Breech Rope Ring Bolts glued in, 4 Flemish Coils were made and placed on the deck either side of the guns. The Entry Port Ladders were then glued on. The ladders were made from 1/16 Swiss Pear.
The Flemish Coils are made from 0.75mm natural thread on a bed of low tack masking tape, once the coils had been formed they were soaked in diluted PVA.
Next up will be the Channel Boards and Deadeyes and all the metalwork that goes with them, I have had a practice and I know what I will be doing with them. I have had a good go at making the Deadeyes but all attempts ended in complete failure, so with my mentors approval I will be buying them in, they will still be Boxwood so I will remain true with that.
Some Pictures.
One of the canons with it's rope work
Finished canon with Flemish Coils
The finished weather deck ( a big jump )
So there we are, next up is all outer hull work with the exception of the Swivel Guns, ( should be fun )
Be Good

Hi Guys, back from the track and a good day was had by all, it was lovely to see my sons face after each event, took me years back to when he was just a young boy, wonderful.
OK, it's time to show the cannon's, as I said in my last post their not identical and their a little longer than should be, but I quite like them.
Also I shall be showing some pics of how I do the Trunion Caps, there not meant as a tutorial so please don't think they are, it's just the way I do them.
Some pics
So now for the Trunion Caps
A sheet of 0.4 brass, cut a little narrower than the sides
Turn the end of the strip up and place 0.5 brass wire inside
Using tweezers, press the turn up down and apply pressure, locking the wire in place.
Place strip into blackener.
Position the strip onto the carriage side and cut to size, then when in position press firmly either side of the Trunion until the strip forms a good fit over the Trunion.
Drill a 0.5m hole into the end of the strip
Place a small eyebolt in the end and a light dab of C/A to fix
A simple way of making the Trunion Caps, the finished item.
I do hope you don't mind me putting my method in here, as I say it's not meant as a tutorial, it's simple and it works for me.
Next up is the Deck Arrangement i.e. Ladders, Kevel Cleats etc.
Be Good

Onto the shrouds,i used .25 caldercraft thread to connect the deadeyes as the 0.15 occre thread is very hairy.I also changed the long boat tie down thread.

Small update and I’d like to thank everyone for their kind words and for hitting the ‘likes’ button.
I put together the binnacle which was pretty straight forward as most of the parts are provided on the laser cut sheet. I beveled the top's edges and door and drawer fronts before gluing them on and decided not to install the trim piece between the top doors and lower drawers, it just didn’t look right. I added handles made from 7mm rivets and drilled the three vent holes on each side. The bell support was the hardest part of this section trying to get the wire legs all the same. I’m still not sure if I like the way it came out and it may be on the list for a do over.

Just a small update - we have deadeyes and chains all ready and waiting for their shrouds at which point I will anchor the chains into position, right now they are just kind of dangling a bit - however a bit of other rigging work before we get to the actual shrouds, but the eyes and chains came out pretty well. Let me tell ya though, them channels were ooooooh so fragile - snapped 2 off while reforming the grooves to take the chains.
All ended well though!!
Thanks as always for stopping in, more to come shortly!
(The masts are in place and drying overnight, then MORE RIGGING! )

I’ve made some progress. The stern is improved with only the fancy metal decoration to be added. The pencil lines are for tree nailing that I forgot I hadn’t done. Also, six gun port doors are installed. I used the Syren kits and each door can open and close. However, I intend to rig all 20 guns, so the doors will always be open. And finally, I made a manger board; even though my forecastle and quarter decks will not be exposed. I will know the board is there. (The bow sprint is not glued yet.)

well........things have taken another turn. I was kinda on vacation from the part time job until I got my badge.......I have it now. I worked last night and I need to go in this morning. I have one humongous update.......here is the beginning of it......
the port side pipes were cemented in place
while removing the sprue stubble from the starboard side pipes, the darn thing broke!
but I managed to get them on anyway
then the railings were added, along with the section for the back edge, between the two pipes
now I can rig the guy lines
the rest will have to wait till the afternoon. I got to get ready for work. there's more crazy stuff going on behind the scenes here......got a plummer coming......the power company is running all over our neighborhood replacing transformers {I hope they don't block our drive way again}........to name what is to be today. tomorrow might be worse.......power might be out for a while.........I'm going back to work again for the evening. the fun is beginning

Inboard work underway. I have thinned down the bulkheads and made and added the false deck. This involved a fair amount of effort, but nothing that was particularly difficult or interesting to see.
For the bulkhead thinning, I followed Chuck's lead and started with a Dremel with a rough sanding drum, followed by sanding sticks and chisels. I also added filler strips at the bow and stern to aid in planking and to facilitate the drilling of various holes. When I was satisfied that all was thin enough and fair, I moved on to the false deck.
The deck was cut from basswood sheet using the template in the plans. I cut it a little oversize and trimmed to fit. Before gluing it in place, I cut the mast hole, the opening for the skylight and the notches for the stern frames. I also marked out the positions of the hatches and companionway and also marked the position of the "deck beams" in preparation for deck planking. I cut the deck into four pieces to make gluing it in place a little easier.
Now, it's on to the interior bulwark planking.
