augie got a reaction from mtaylor in HMS Pegasus by realworkingsailor - Amati/Victory Models - 1/64
Popeye brings up a good point. Are you left handed, Andy?
As far as flat spins are concerned, do the following:
1) Neutralize all control surfaces
2) Apply rudder in direction opposite the spin
3) Put head between knees
4) Kiss butt goodbye.

Hi Andy,
Didn't mean to send you into a flat spin. Just thought that if you caught it early, it wouldn't be much of a re-do if you chose. Anyway, it's a minor detail that is hard to see once the deadeye lanyards are finished off, even if you are looking for it. Your shrouds still look great!
Augie - sometimes in life, you just get lucky!

Might as well panic now, get it out of your system...

augie reacted to Jim Lad in Stag by Jim Lad - FINISHED - Scale 1:96 - English Revenue Cutter of 1827
Meredith,
If you've got the space, I'd go for a really grand 1:48 scale model - it's a great scale to work at - you can pretty much show every nut and bolt if you want to!

augie got a reaction from Salty Sea Dog in Charles W Morgan Whaleboat by Salty Sea Dog - Artesania Latina - Scale 1:25 - POF - first wooden boat build - SMALL
Well, it's unanimous. Good conversation and a concensus!
Didn't mean to imply your keel was too thick. Actually, I love it as is. This is a skiff for trophy whales.
Just don't "Call me Ishmael"

Ron,
If you go with thole pins you will be in good company. The Fog Warning by Winslow Homer shows pins versus locks .

Popeye.. this one is for your crew. Since I agitated Augie's build, thought I'd pop one on yours... need to spread the music.

augie reacted to realworkingsailor in HMS Pegasus by realworkingsailor - Amati/Victory Models - 1/64
Not my original intention...
And I firmly believe that when it comes to these sorts of things, I usually only get lucky once... So mass production is out of the question...
Although I did PM Robbyn something that might pass for instructions, I may have her scared off making her own as I haven't heard back as yet...

augie got a reaction from fatih79 in US Brig Syren by Augie - FINISHED - Model Shipways - 1:64
OK, I'm BACK!!!!!!!! The relatives have headed back East with Syren none the worse for wear. She did manage to survive a Tsunami started by an errant can of Coke. Whew
But you folks have been having so much fun in my absence that I feel I must contribute something --- even a minor update.
So here are the mainmast lower yard buntlines and falls. Yes, they're hard to see.
I know I promised an overview shot but I want to finish the buntlines on the foremast first and set the next yards.
And tomorrow I simply MUST go catch some fish
But it's great to be back tying knots and herding the spiders !

I assure you.....good sirs.....that I am not a slum boss. they were in this 'condition' when I hired them. when I posted the ad for the wharf, I specified that they have some nautical background, and that they have no residual 'baggage'. this is about as 'baggage-less' as you can get.....so, I hired them.

Hey Sjors
I'm with you, old school, no needle threader. Never heard of one other than me! LOL
I use the same method of CA drop on the tip of the rope or line since ships don't have ropes! I then cut it on an angle to sharpen it and then presto!...oops missed...try again...presto! There like that! LOL

Man, you really have parred your operation down to the bare bones, Popeye, but your crew need more backbone - they're gutless - I wouldn't rib you about that!

No bones about it, Popeye. You have great helpers.

augie reacted to Jim Lad in US Brig Syren by Augie - FINISHED - Model Shipways - 1:64
No good, Mark - those critters are short about 50% of the regulation number of legs.
Augie - I hope the can of coke wasn't open. That stuff could cause serious damage if it splashed in your finishes.
John
PS. If you need to buy the fish, make sure that they're really fresh and put a tiny hole near the mouth to show where the hook was.
