I have seen her a few times when on holiday in the West Country, but have only just realised it might be the same type as your lovely Erycina

I think another one or two small kits, then a very big development, from the sublime to ridiculous....

I haven't even started the designs for the next big kit, but have laid quite a lot of groundwork for it, and it is something I very much look forward to starting, as it was always on my first list of subjects I want to do, and one of the first set of plans I bought back in 2019.

For now, all laser cut parts for Nisha and Erycina have been done, and box art almost complete. I just have Erycina manual to complete - I say 'Just', it's still a lot of work - but I anticipate all work being completed in the next three days.

Cheers! Nisha and Erycina are kits 8&9, with 10 coming not too long after. 11 or 12 will be a very large one for next year - too large for laser engraved decks, so more 'Old School'..

Craigie65 got a reaction from GrandpaPhil in HMS President by Craigie65 - Sergal - Scale 1:64
Finally I have plucked up the courage to post my build of Sergal's HMS President. The kit was bought several years ago after thinking that plastic was cheating   I only got as far as assembling the keel, bulkheads, false deck and one strip of the first planking before it ended in the cupboard and I turned to the dark side of model aircraft

Last year, July I think, I came across the kit in the cupboard and decided to have another crack. Well a year later I am close to finishing.

So here are a few pics

The plans from the kit seemed nowhere close to how I imagined a ship should be rigged. So I purchased Lennarth Petersson's book on rigging period ships. At the moment I am adding the braces but have run out of blocks to do the topgallant braces.  The kit has nowhere near enough!  I think I'll skip the cluelines and sheets.

While I was doing the Fore and Fore topsail braces I noticed that main stay was above the preventer stay

So out with the knife and the preventer stay is now in the right place

I can see some more rigging errors (too many fore stays as I don't have a flying jib boom) but I am not about to re-rig this.

The model is a good one for a beginner like me but probably not very accurate - I am sure the carronades would destroy the main and fore channels! I think I read that it might not be a real ship!

I have purchased HM Bomb Vessel Granado from Caldercraft after coming across Timmo's excellent build while on holiday. I will start a build log once I receive the bulkheads - yes I 2 keels and no bulkheads. Jotika/Caldercraft is on the case.

Craigie65 got a reaction from thibaultron in what is future's
It is a liquid polish that acts as a sort of varnish. Once set it is quite hard. As terry says it is widely used by aircraft modellers. I use it myself. It is vEry good at protecting the clear parts for CA fogging. Personally I use a paint range that has a high gloss factor that means that I don't use it for decals. In the UK the formula and name changed much to the consternation of the modelling community as it no longer did what it used to! I have heard of people buying it to stockpile

And to actually answer your question once dry decals will readily stick to it. I guess you could paint over it but most use it as a varnish so it is a final coat

I reckon most of it could be sprayed and details picked out with a hairy stick

I tend to go for sub assemblies which I spray and then attach to the deck or superstructure

    Hi Guys,

Sorry for the absence from the forum for the last few months, it's been a busy few months with work and moving house (twice).

I have made some significant progress in the last few months though. I have rigged the main shroads on the main mast, installed all the deck fittings (replaced the carronades with truck mounted 12 pounders) replaced the "home made" ships boat with a cast long boat (at 1:64 scale - but close enough is near enough), and rigged a lot of the standing rigging.

I will follow with pictures shortly, and I will give a detailed description of all work carried out on HMS President over the last 4 months.

    Cheers.

    Perfect Alistair! Thank-you!

    I thought as much...
I noticed on all the forums that there is no specific information on how to best do it.
It seems everyone's cannons' magically rig themselves and set themselves on the deck.
I wish mine would do so...

    Hi
Glad to read that you are getting some building done. You might want to consider lining the gun ports to get them square and all the same size. I like the painted brass - I left mine as is but wished I had practiced painting ahead of the stern of the Granado

    Keep the pictures coming

Yes that is exactly how I did mine. I used the plans to create a template and transferred the position of the gun ports to the ship. Then chain drilled out the ports before squaring off using a rasp

Timmo Craigie No reason I can't put up a log of my build so far, although it would only be upto where it is now as she is currently sat on a shelf above my workbench and she will be staying there for some time yes as I have other projects to work on first. Finishing the Bounty is first up, then some more work on the Sovereign partwork, followed by AL's Santa Maria which arrived yesterday, but I certainly have photographs of the build so far.

I did make life difficult for myself as I began the rigging before doing the shrouds...and wished I hadn't.  Will post it tomorrow

Hiya Timmo, doing a grand job on her.

I am building the same ship although made by Victory Models, and one noticeable difference is the mortar bays are built completely differently from your Caldercraft kit, there are a number of other differences too, not just with the method of construction, but the resulting look as well...

Good work, will be using yours as reference when I resume mine
