  1. Morning everyone Some progress. Outside of the body painted. Learned valuable lesson about properly thinning and stirring paints before using them...🙄☺️ Really hoping my paint order arrives soon as there is some chrome and white paint that I need to finish the model off. Will then have to wait for my other order 😄 which contains satin and gloss varnish (and my next model...) Thanks for looking and stay safe and healthy!
  2. Mind if I pull up a chair? I started (and never finished...) This kit back in 2004... Was good fun but if I remember correctly I gave up when I couldnt get the roof to sit flush on the lower part of the body. Found some pics on my pc. Certainly didn't know anything about cleaning mold lines back then!😄 You're certainly off to a good start! Nick
  3. Thanks for the info Craig. My next car model had a fair amount of chrome so I'm thinking ahead in case I do want to strip and repaint the chrome parts. Nick
  4. Lovely colour, quick question if you don't mind how do you strip chrome and what brand and colour would you recommend for repainting it(for someone who doesn't have an airbrush...)? Muchas Gracias in advance! Nick
  5. Haha I'd love to Mark but unfortunately this isn't the 60s anymore. That kind of thing is frowned upon these days!😄 (Plus traffic is pretty quiet at the mo...) Nick
  6. Ok Egilman you win. I've added the ejector seats.😋 Nick
  7. Seeing the level of your ship builds I seriously doubt that!🙂
  8. Like I said it's the starter kit...no ejector seats... Just seats...😋 And thanks for the "VERY COOL". Like that!😁 Woohoo uploading is working again!
  9. Evening all My next build is the Aston Martin DB5 model by airfix. This was given to me by my best man nearly 3 ahem years ago... Kit itself is ok for a starter kit. Not too many details and quite a lot of mold lines to get rid of. I'm using this as a rehearsal for my next plastic build 🙂 so trying to do this properly (clean mold lines, multiple coats of paints, etc) things which may be obvious to the more experienced builders. I'm mostly using the paints provided. Only extra is some chrome paint I am waiting for as the kit specifies to paint the chrome parts with the same aluminium colour as the body...🙄 Anyhoo a couple of progress pics. Nothing too exciting! Ok at least one for now until the upload of the other one works! Nick
  10. Nope never sanded varnish was going to try and use a cotton bud to remove it. I used Matt varnish.didnt know about the putting on another layer trick. Thanks! Don't think I have other varnishes. Mind you Ill need to order some satin or gloss varnish for the db5.
  11. Thanks for the comments and suggestions.sorry I'm a bit confused cog... Clean off Matt varnish with gloss varnish?🤔 I've already started the db5. Build log coming up! Nick
  12. Hi all The tie fighter is finally finished. I opted to use humbrol Matt varnish as I did another test and it worked fine. Unfortunately grrrh the windows have completely misted up...😠 Anything I can do? Clean it carefully with white spirit maybe? I'll let the photos do the talking. The colours are a lot lighter than in real life. I had to use the flash just to see the details. I'll try again tomorrow in the middle of the day Thanks for looking in. Nick
  13. Thanks Edward! As tempting as that is😄 I've got an airfix starter kit of an Aston Martin DB5 that my best man gave me on my 40th which was nearly 3 years ago... Probably should start that first! Kit isn't brilliant but it will be a good way to get back into doing car kits. Nick Ps: can't get too hooked on plastic kits Le Mirage will end up being exactly that!
  14. I should add it's not finished yet. C A few patches to tidy up and I also need to try and accentuate the panel lines on the main body. I do have a dark grey wash but it doesn't appear to flow in the lines easily. Might be worth getting Tamiya panel Line. Nick
  15. Thanks for the comment and suggestion Egilman. I'll see if I can get it
  16. Hi all Shipyard is in the garage and it being a bit too cold to go in there during the winter I thought I'd do something a bit different: Also had a case of builders block with Le Mirage... And also really wanted to finish a kit in less than 20 years! I've been watching a few (lots!😄) Of plasmo's videos to get some tips. I've not got too many progress pics but here there are As you can see I've gone for a greyer colour than the box art which just looks too much like blue to me. Question for the more experienced plastic modellers out there: what kind of spray varnish (out of rattle can or with brush) is the best? I've tried humbrol acrylic varnish out of spray can but it comes out far too quickly and also appears to make the paint crack... Thanks for looking in Nick
  17. I got the last one in my local store at lunchtime! (and a crowbar set but I'm not planning to use that on my build.😆)
  18. Heads up for anyone in the UK, Lidl have those back in from tomorrow! What a coincidence that I'll be working from home and will have time to pop out at lunchtime...😃 https://www.lidl.co.uk/en/p/diy/parkside-disc-sander/p29561 Nick
  19. Hi Vane Lovely build. I did exactly the same thing with some of my second planking but spaced out the CA so that I could add normal wood glue as well. That should give a stronger bond to the first planking. My two pennies worth anyway! 🙂 Nick
  20. No worries No Idea! Think I had seen that link already. Just gotta keep looking at Lidl website...
  21. I'd love to get one of those but unfortunately they come up very rarely on the Lidl website...☹️ And I can't find anyone else in the UK that sells them.
