I had mentioned earlier I had a medical issue that needed to be addressed. I met with the doctor and the
good news is I've been given a clean bill of health.

The bad news is I've been given a clean bill of health and have to return to work! 🤣
Work will slow considerably now. 😢

    And the adventure continues,

I've now set 7 "tall" frames and 4 "short" frames. I've also added 2 sweep ports and 2 gun port sills on each side.
I used the supplied template to ensure that the spacing and height is correct.

As Mike mentioned earlier toothpicks were used on the jig for minor adjustments to fine tune the frame spacing.

My plan is to now add all the forward tall and short frames. I'll then use the template to adjust them to their correct position.
Once I confirm they are placed correctly, I'll start adding the sweep port blanks and the gun port sills.

    Small update:

Finish line is in sight, just closed the 3rd band. One more band on both sides, and I'm done.
I thought the 3rd band would be easy, but the first 3 strakes at the stern were the hardest I've encountered. The sharp curve up was difficult. A combination of measuring, using a template and just eyeballing worked reasonably well.

Now first the garboard strake and continue working from there. Photo's are a bit crappy, when it's finished I will shoot some better pics.

    Not sanded yet

    Update:

Closed the second band on both sides, so now i'm about the halfway point of the hull. Progress feels really slow, but I thought I needed about a half year for the hull planking, but i'm nearly 2 months underway, so that's a faster then I expected.

I think I have the more difficult strakes behind me, apart from the garboard strake. But who knows...maybe there are some difficult planks here and there...we will see.
I'm still having fun with planking!

By the way...it needs to see a piece of sanding paper yet.

Wish I had the choice back when I made mine, my answer would have been yes.

Sorry you think that. My comment is to the unreasonable expectation for ‘accuracy’ being demanded of Chris for small plastic figures.  Being it reminded of the little army men I played with as a kid I’m not why toy isn’t a fair description. More significantly nor can I imagine examining such figures to determine if it had the right shoes, especially once placed on a model.

Chris is valuable to our community for his ship designs, not for the outsourced work of a plastic figure that clearly creates such critique. It’s true I have no use for plastic figures (other than my mini-me for fun and scale comparison) so I’ll keep further comments to myself.

Frankly I’m surprised Chris is giving it another try, best of luck to him on his next iteration.

I first thought these comments were in jest, such detailed critiques of a small plastic toy. I completely understand and support your decision to scrap it. It’s not your core business, why bother.

btw: the guy in that painting seems to have really big hands 🤣

They aren’t real people or sculptures, just toys to put on a model.  Besides I think I read somewhere that naval officers of this time period had big hands and small heads 😊

I'm continuing to raise some frames while cleaning and assembling other frames.

Here are five "tall frames in place with the two "short" frames waiting their turn.
You'll notice the blocks for the sweep ports there too.

The two short frames have now been added and the sweep port blocks have been roughly shaped. More fine tuning is needed.
I'm also checking the frame locations with the supplied templates and my height gauge to check the sweep port and gun port locations.

Nice looking Flirt, well done. The number one rule of modeling is time to build is not a qualifier, it doesn’t matter as long as you’re enjoying yourself.

The .1mm thread looks fine as ratlines, definitely don’t want anything thicker.

I spent the week making 17 belaying pins using my Dremel tool.  While it's not too difficult to make one belaying pin, trying to make a bunch that are identical proved to be impossible.  Glad I'm done with that step!  They turned out pretty good anyway.  I remind myself that once all is said and done, there will be rope placed around all of them, so any variations in shape that are visible now, won't be able to be seen then.
