  1. Link to Usovo Proxxon upgrade page: https://www.usovo.de/en/c/mf70-tuning Grant.
  2. For what it's worth, Proxxon MF-70 works fine. I'm on my second machine. It does everything I need. If you have limited horizontal surfaces, it's very easy to put back on a shelf to free up bench space. Downside is the noise, also the continual cranking can be an irritant. There is a bloke in Germany (I think, can't remember the company name) who has an adaptor to screw onto the crank handles that should reduce the irritation somewhat. Grant.
  3. Gentlemen, some great work spaces in that collection. I'm in awe you all are able to maintain such organized, tidy workshops. My work shop is disorganized and chaotic. Regards, Grant.
  4. Hi Dick, just caught up on your work. The colouring of the "bricks" in your stove look great. Functioning hinges on the companionway,👍. Are you retired now? Regards, Grant.
  5. I purchased one of these: https://www.tamiya.com/english/products/74112/index.html 2 years ago. It is the third pin vise I've owned, the best so far. Reasonably priced. Can't comment on the claim to clamp 0.1mm bits. The smallest I'm using are 0.4mm, which the tool handles without any problems. Regards, Grant.
  6. I do.... and I've been studying the page of details on the yards for some time, yet still managed to overlook the sheet block hanging off the yard.. Time for a new pair of specs. Thanks for your prompting. Regards, Grant.
  7. Gentlemen, I am in need of advice. I have no plan for the sheet blocks under the main yards, so I tried to guesstimate off the 1:96 plans. Question is.....does this look about right? Thanks, Grant.
  8. Dick, I should've put a "😀" after "van". My apologies if you interpreted my light hearted comment as criticism. It was not intended as such. Regards, Grant.
  9. The octopus gave it the look of a sea going food truck. Not very piratical. Regards, Grant
  10. That's looking good John. What is the overall length at present? Regards, Grant.
  11. Steven, just finished browsing through the build log, an interesting project well executed. Regards, Grant.
  12. I nearly forgot to add: may your Christmas fowl be seasoned and cooked to perfection.
  13. Glen, that is a well presented model, congratulations. Looking forward to seeing the completed project. Merry Christmas and a happy New Year. Regards, Grant.
  14. Glen, apologies for this, does this mean vessels built on Maui require an anti "fowling" paint? Grant.
  15. Off to a great start. They look good. The koa has a pleasing colour. I thought we might be spared livestock and penguin references this time. You've let the longhorns in........... Regards, Grant.
  16. Dick, no different to making your own blocks and deadeyes. Sometimes this hobby has it's times of "patient endurance". Builds character I'm told. Regards, Grant.
  17. Vlad, I'm not sure if you've worked out the lead of braces from Underhill as yet. I was looking at that diagram today. Picture attached with an explanation (my interpretation), that I hope makes it clear. Regards, Grant.
  18. Thanks for the encouragement gentlemen. Further progress, deadeyes and chainplates: I'm not sure about the size of the blocks for the lower yard lifts, they look a little large......maybe? They are the correct size for the line that runs through them. It might be hard to pick up in the picture. Any opinions? Grant.
  19. It's been a busy couple of months, heaps of progress. Pin and cap rails installed, lower masts completed, lower yards shaped. The steps up to the poop deck don't look right from some angles, very awkward to get right as the decks run off in different directions, nothing is nice and level or square. The size of the lower yards surprised me. They extend past the rails 5-6m either side. I've noticed a nasty problem with the 2 lower fore stays from the main mast. The rigging plan shows them running under cleats on the fore mast then to their deck fixing UNDER the forecastle deck. Just to complicate things, there is a windlass for the stays to go over. This is what happens when you start something with no real idea of what you're doing. Another "teaching moment". Grant.
  20. Pat, thanks for taking the time to test and post your thoughts. I'll try Technoflux product with the oxy/acetylene torch and let you know how it goes. Regards, Grant.
  21. Glen, looks like Sweet Eileen dyes her hair, or possibly sports a wig/hair piece. Great pic. Regards, Grant.
  22. Thanks. Take your time, it's not urgent. Grant.
  23. 0.2mm, impressive. I might try soldering some 0.27mm wire with my oxy acetylene Little torch to see if It's possible. What's the heat gel you're using? Grant.
  24. Pat, Nice work. Are you silver soldering the 0.3mm wire? If so, good heat control not melting the wire. Regards, Grant.
