BLACK VIKING reacted to Karinmutter in HMS AGAMEMNON by Karinmutter - FINISHED - Caldercraft - 1:64
Hello Agamemnon-fans,
I have just finished some more steps towards the end. Now there are only a few things to do: Instal the rest of the yard braces, attach the small boats and make a stand. I also have not yet found an appropriate display case , not so easy for a model of that size...

BLACK VIKING reacted to Kevin in St Nectan by Kevin - FINISHED - Mountfleet Models - 1/32 - Steam Trawler - Completed June 2020
good evening everyone
left the diorama for a while, i have a build to do as well
the hull is getting some attention now, starting with the after capping rail, i have still to adjust it width wise where the rail leave the rounded part of the cod liver house, but will be done as the next part is made up
and today she saw her first coats of paint on the hull, i can now see the areas that need work doing on it

BLACK VIKING reacted to Edwardkenway in SBD-3 Dauntless 1:48 Hasegawa - Edwardkenway-FINISHED
Yipeee!!! I've finished the dauntless! Today last bits have been glued on and the decals put on. There may be some paint touch up to do but that's it. I'm happy with the final product, but the Admiral has said and I quote "I don't mind a ship or two but I'm not having any bloody planes knocking about" so in a box it will go to be forgotten in the model graveyard of the loft.😕😕😥😭
Thankyou all for hanging on in with me and all the comments, likes and off build conversations 👍 it's been a fun change from wood and I will definitely be doing another although I don't know what subject matter yet, but don't tell the Admiral 🤫 So the photos:
thanks again everyone who has followed or looked in, stay safe and
Cheers 👍😉😊😊

BLACK VIKING reacted to Hank in Converting a Backyard Shed into a Model Workshop
OK, so today was to be rain (it WASN'T!!!) and once afternoon had arrived, I decided to go out and get further work done. Of course, having to constantly move STUFF around slows any meaningful progress, I did get the front wall paneling 98% complete (1 20" wide section to cut & install). I then cut and readied the next 4x8 panel for the left wall with only the 20" wide front wall panel to cut special tomorrow a.m. Insulation is installed up to this point, and then I will return to work on sanding the panel joints on the earlier side of the shop and get primer/paint rolled on. This should (I am using the word "should") occur Wed. afternoon or Thurs. a.m. I also intend to get any window/door/wall trim as needed cut and installed and painted, etc. So, here is the work as of today:
I know this must look like utter chaos (and it IS!!), but believe me, THERE IS A PLAN !!! And....I do have a ceiling idea that may work, I just need to contact my building associates and mentors to make sure it's a sound idea. Nothing like going off the rails at this stage of the game, right????

BLACK VIKING reacted to Old Collingwood in Spitfire IX (Late Mark) by Old Collingwood - FINISHED - Eduard - 1/48
Plan for today (later) there is still a hairline gap where the wings meet the fuselage so I will work some plastic putty into it, then I will either attach the rudder stabs and Rudder or the wing tips (depends what I fancy doing first).
I know I keep saying it - but I really recommend thses Eduard kits they are simply first rate in every way.

BLACK VIKING reacted to Old Collingwood in Spitfire IX (Late Mark) by Old Collingwood - FINISHED - Eduard - 1/48
A bit more progress - no work done in the day time as we were sat out enjoying that weird bright ornage thing in the sky, so I decided to work on the cockpit glazing, this is in three sections due to me having the cockpit open, first I cut away the front section and after tyding up the edge I fitted some masks that came in the kit, this was a three part mask - I then glued it in place and set it down using the dryer, next was the rear section - again tydy up and masked using two masks, this was then glued down/heated, last was the sliding section - this had the same prodecure, but it stays off till the last stages of the build.
Thank you all for the interest people are showing in my build.

BLACK VIKING reacted to Old Collingwood in Spitfire IX (Late Mark) by Old Collingwood - FINISHED - Eduard - 1/48
More progress this evening - I glued the two wing sections to the main lower wing, then I glued the whole wing assembly to the fuselage, when set it needed just the smallest amount of filling with plastic putty and a bit of clean up.

BLACK VIKING reacted to yvesvidal in U-552 by yvesvidal - FINISHED - Trumpeter - 1/48 - PLASTIC - Type VIIC U-boat
Since, we are on the subject of describing the Control room of the Type VIIc, I thought it would be appropriate to publish a few pictures glanced and collected on the Internet. May their authors be infinitely rewarded in this life or a future one, for their generosity and skills.
The first "fish-eye" picture is particularly dramatic.... what a maze and intricacy of pipes, wheels, dials and valves. A true nightmare, when anyone of these hoses could have leaked, following an underwater explosion:
The right part of what is visible on this picture is actually not represented by Trumpeter. The two steering wheels are the diving planes controls and are not part of the kit, since they stand where the opening to the module, is located. The L shaped bench is provided in the kit. Also, note the well on the attach periscope has been plugged to prevent the U-995 tourists from falling or throwing things into the main ballast. This problem, as designed by Trumpeter, will have to be corrected.
The left picture represents the Port side and as such is correctly implemented in the kit. The right picture is of course, entirely missing, from the kit.
The Christmas Tree of red and black valves is also missing from the Trumpeter Kit. The periscope enclosure on the right is correctly recreated by Trumpeter.
Above is the Attack periscope, also nicely represented by Trumpeter.
The various compressors on the floor (for the cold enclosure - fridge) are also well depicted by Trumpeter.
Here also, Trumpeter did a good job with their bulkhead assembly.
Above, the torpedo computer, used to calculate trajectories and program the eels.
As we will see, the Port side is very well rendered in the kit.
The last drawing explains how the depth measuring gauges are working and how the submarine was controlled when diving or surfacing.
Soon, a few pictures of the model.....

BLACK VIKING reacted to florida_troll (James) in I finally took the plunge.
Since I’m on lock down from work due to the Covid-19 virus (I don’t have it my employer has sent me home with pay since me and my wife are high risk) I finally decided to build my first wooden ship model. I ordered the Optimist Dingy Kit from Bluejacket Ship Crafters on 4/6/20. My model building skills will be very rusty since my teenage years. I think that will be a good starting point and I’ll build the Red Baron next. I’ll wait to see what additional tools I need after I receive the kit and read the instructions and what I might already have. I’ll try to do a build log as I go along. It's good to be a new member after lurking for a few months and already have seen many useful tips reading the board.

BLACK VIKING reacted to Jack12477 in USCG UH-65A Dolphin by Jack12477 - 1:48 scale - Trumpeter - FINISHED
Ok, shiny BBs installed, super glue dried, ready to button up the bottom hatch. Time to start working on the decals before I install any of the remaining fiddly bits. Ole fumble fingers will surely destroy them if I don't wait till the decals are on. But now she sits nice and level.
In a prior post I promised to post some close up photos of the rotor assembly - they follow
First the assembly steps - parts # B1 + B9 and A7 are the top half of the rotor shaft B1 shaft is just inserted, not glued into the other parts. This assembly then glues into the parts B18. then up thru B28 to attach to cap B29. This is what disabled the rotation. Notice also that there are NO do not glue symbols anywhere on the assembly instructions.
With the rotor assembly dry fit into position.

BLACK VIKING reacted to Tom E in B-25J Mitchell by Tom E - Revell - 1:48 Scale
Mornin,
Beautiful crisp early spring day in New Hampshire. Sun is rising, birds are chirping and the coffee is hot.
I see a lot of building getting done today.
Before I head to the table, another update.
With the interior of the fuselage coming along nicely, I needed to make some head way on the cockpit area.
There are some small PE parts for the core of this area, easily placed.
I did check where the brass strips should lay in front of the seats so not to block/foul up any future parts in this area.
Kept reminding myself there's still a control stick and console to install.
The seats had some PE parts. They look like map boxes.
They'll be a bit buried in this area once all is installed, but I like them and went forward with it.
Had to make sure I had the clearance for the map boxes.
Glad I checked and checked again where these will finally sit!
This area is essentially ready for paint.
The seats will have some PE seatbelts but those will be after I spray these a Mr Color flat black.
Off to paint we went.
I'm getting more confident with the airbrush.
With that being said, I did change over to the Harder & Steenbeck Infinity airbrush sooner than I would have liked.
A very basic no name airbrush came with the compressor I bought.
It kind of "fell apart" while cleaning it.
There are some small PE pieces for the control panel and flight controls.
All in good time.
The deck area was painted olive drab. Same as the rest of the interior.
Stay safe,
Tom E

BLACK VIKING reacted to Tom E in B-25J Mitchell by Tom E - Revell - 1:48 Scale
Evening,
This build needs an update!!!!
Continuing with the internal PE, the rear gunner position was next.
There's still a gunners seat and seatbelts that will be eventually installed.
I hope to use the aftermarket gun barrels I have in this area. But that's looking ahead.
With the rear section finished, that finishes the big pieces of internal PE and the interior of the fuselage is ready for paint.
I taped up a few areas where I wanted to contain the spray of paint.
Being completely new to airbrush painting and masking, It was mostly guess work.
I was so nervous by the time I went ahead and got the airbrush up and primed.
I had three of everything on "stand-by"!!!!
Reminded me of my old days working in Operating rooms.
In the end, it wasn't too bad. Most of the worry was in my head.
As you can see below, It is a bit splotchy, but I think I can chock that up to my paint/thinner ratio.
I'm still learning that aspect!
I didn't worry too much about another coat as most of this will be covered when the fuselage halves are glued together.
I can see why airbrushing is so popular.
All the little details really jump out. I was always a hand painter, still am on my Niagara build, but for plastic it looks fantastic!
Using Mr. Color Olive Drab for the interior. For the exterior I plan on using an Earth Green from Mr. Color as well.
The interior still has some pieces install.
There are foot lockers, seats, and ammo boxes yet to be installed. These will be done later, there being painted black.
Stay safe!
Tom E

I'm going very well, for the moment.
Unfortunately I'm forced at home and quite far from my model: when the rule to avoid moving away was issued I was in Tuscany at my daughter's house and I cannot return to Milan. This is anyway a big advantage 'cause Milan and surrounding towns are the main epicentre of he pandemic virus. I cannot forecast when I'll be able to return and finish this model.
Sincerely, Jack.

They are copper clad steel BB's, Ken. Was only planning on using them as supplemental weights, not paint mixing. Have a battery powered mixer from MicroMark for that function. Works great, even on old almost dried out Floquil paint.
So as I await the hazmat suit and my venture out to Wally World in search of BBs, I have gotten this far with the build. Unfortunately the rotor blades were not designed to rotate on this model so I have to make that the last addition.

By the time these guns are loaded and fired. You are already far, far away
Building something I don't know the English name for ( i don't really know the Dutch name either )
Looking at drawings and paintings of this era, the ropes of the mainsail and foresail usually pass through the railing (hull) at these places.
So, i make something like this
glue pieces
painting
assemble
Drill a 1 mm hole
increase the diameter of the hole to 2mm. So it does not splinter on the outside.
The pieces for the outside (The first test piece was unsuccessful)
Painted and assembling
quality control.
If this can go through, then the rope will be able to pass through at a later stage
Ready

A bit more work on the Spit this eve, I painted the insides of the wheel wells then weathered them, then I dry fitted the wings to the fuselage to check the fit - Impressive.

BLACK VIKING reacted to Kevin in Diorama for St Nectan by Kevin - 1/32 - DIORAMA
good evening everyone, from a lovely locked in, self isolating Somerset, i dont have the plague, just retired and enjoying being at home, hope everyone one id safe and well out there
well i now have the pier frame work made up, i will need to cut some bits out, as it will form the support for the build, and contain the electrics, forgot the photo, but what was there before, now has a top to form the jetty deck, thid is it
the whole unit will be covered in plasterboard, lighter materials are available in the shops, but i dont have any, and the shops are shut,
this has been cut into small sections, although i cannot remember why, the top paper removed (very messy) and brick work cut in (even messier)
the board was then sprayed in grey primer as i was going to use acrylics with lots of dry brushing the primer would also keep the dust down and act as the base colour for the grouting
after quite a few hours experimenting with different stone effects, some worked better than others, then i made a mistake, well accident, and spilt some wash which i was using to tone down the grouting, and the result was better than anything i had done
so here are a few photos. still very much WIP

BLACK VIKING reacted to Louie da fly in Henry Grace a Dieu (Great Harry) by Louie da fly - FINISHED - Scale 1:200 - Repaired after over 50 yrs of neglect
After a long hiatus while I worked on the dromon, I've come back to the Great Harry to give me a rest from the never-ending carving of oarsmen.
Before I can add the upper deck of the aftercastle, I had to put in the cannons below it. As I didn't add lower decks when I first built the ship, I've had to get a bit clever and put in narrow "false decks" along the sides of the ship to put the guns on.
I've turned some gun barrels from 1.5mm brass tube. A bit rough and ready but at this scale they look pretty good. As the carriages won't be seen I made them pretty basic. I glued the barrels to them with CA, which I don't usually use. (PVA doesn't stick brass very well). I rested them on a sheet of paper so they didn't stick to everything in sight/each other, and I could peel/sand it off later.
And here they are on the false decks:
and from outside:

BLACK VIKING got a reaction from Landlubber Mike in B17 Lil Audrey by Black Viking - Airfix 1-72
Hi all and thanks for the comments and likes
A bit more done the wings and tail fins have been fitted and the fuselage glue together.
I have dry brushed the whole aircraft to give it a worn look.
I have found out that she was hit by flack and number 2 engine caught fire but was put out quite quickly. It was replaced and a new cowl fitted but wasn't painted for a few weeks so I have shown this.
Just a little bit more to do then she will be complete.
Thanks for following
