    Planking of cafeteria:

The original floor is darker but I only varnished the planks so there will be some contrast against the tables and chairs.

    And here is some tables:

The ply for the tables and chairs is 0.5 mm and extremely bristle. brushing the ply with sanding sealer gave it enough strength for assembling.

    On to glue 30 chairs....

    Hello,

    Work continuing slowly.

    Planking fore deck:

Then on to details of the cafeteria in the aft:

    Staircase:

    Planking underway:

The cafeteria part looks nothing like the real thing. Not even the measurements. I was thinking of adding some small detail (like pictures on the wall, wallpaper etc) but to get it accurate I'd have to rebuild the whole interior. And I don't feel like doing that. So it will have to be a stylized version of "Bohuslän".
As you can see the painting is quite sloppy, but it will be dimly lit and not show (I hope). The guy who paints the interior is not very accurate when he mixes new colours so it differs quite a bit on the original as well.

After this build I'll stick to building sailing ships. "Modern" ships isn't really that fun...

    The last batch:

    A bag of mahogany:

    Doors, panels and steps:

    Tables and chairs:

    Closeup of the doorpanels:

    Colour scheme?:

This is the full written instructions on the left: On the right parts list.

Building plans: Quite good actually. But it feels like building a plastic kit...

    Example of the wiring plan:

And that's it from the box!

I'm quite satisfied with the quality of the kit. I don't like the plastic parts though.. The winch is made of partly white metal and partly plastic. Strange...

I don't understand why they have instructions in bad English since the kit is manufactured for Sweden. How hard can it be to translate one page of instructions (that mostly explains how to soak planks) and a few sentences scattered around in the plans...

Not that it is a problem for me personally but I know some old farts that don't understand a word English and shy away just because of that...

The LED kit is a fun extra. It usually cost SEK 180 but I got it for free. The kit cost me about €280 and that makes it a lot of ship for the money.

I have some rigging to do on another model before I start building Bohuslän. A couple of days...

    Hello Ship model builders...
I am Puckotred from Göteborg and this is my third model and the first without sails.

A picture of the real thing:

From Atlastmodels: (With some minor corrections from me)

"The steamship S/S Bohuslän was built at Eriksbergs shipyard in Gothenburg 1913. For more than 40 years the traffic route of Bohuslän was between Göteborg- Lysekil-Smögen-Gravarne (Kungshamn) on the Swedish west coast. Later it was used as a ferry between Sweden and Denmark and between Sweden and Norway until it was taken off to be scrapped in 1963. A number of enthusiasts decided to rescue it and restored Bohuslän to its original condition and is still running it in the west coast archipelago in the summertime. "

    Build size: 95 x 16 x 40 cm.

Made by Türkmodel on behalf of NCB – Nordic Class Boats

So let's start with the unboxing:

    Presentation:

    Box:

    Lid off:

Closeup of metal cast fittings etc:

The other half. on the right are the davits (or "lifeboat hangers" as the instructions state them)
    made of "plexiglass".

    The stuff underneath:

    Curtains!!!!:

Wire and aluminium foil(?!) for the funnel:

"plexiglass" OK for the windows but the small sheet on top is for the winch and sunroofs.

After installing the sling and the lifts the next task were the buntlines.

I had only one end of them attached to the foot of the sail. The loose end was now thread through the block on the yard, the dedicated blocks under the top, through the upper of two single blocks stropped together head by head (similar to a shoe block) and back to the top and yard. This arrangement with the ‘shoe block’ is according Lees. A line leads to the lower part of the shoe block, hanging under the yard but close to the deck, with both ends belayed according the plans on the forecastle rails. I used a short end just fixed with a rolling hitch and a long end with a coil of line for working the whole arrangement.

The lose end of the buntline - after threading it through its block on the yard - was brought below the furled sail and then discreetly fixed around the yard as the correct fixing to the foot of the sail was impossible now. This should be overlooked.

The last line was the clue line. It was installed according to the kits plans.

Sheets and braces of the lower yards will be among the last things to be fixed as they will hinder the access to the deck too much otherwise.

Sling and lifts installed, the loose end of the double buntline still hangs over the sail.

The black clip holds the free end of the buntline, while the red in the middle ground hangs on the lower of the two blocks stropped together.

The incorrectly fixed end of the buntline.

Clue lines belayed on the bitts

Some adjustment of the sling is done

    Scary work without safety line

The fore top starts to look businesslike.
That pin above the cap waits for the next task: Fore topsail yard with sail.

As promised a sequel to the last few threads. This openwork inset

Here was the difficulty. Part thickness only 2.8 mm, and the thread must be on both sides. Therefore, in areas of thinning turned very small thickness. And item several times I broke during operation.   I had to find a way out of the problem. Did so: the item consists of two halves. They became even thinner, but now they can be glued drops of glue on the bar and do as a bas-relief carving. And then glue it all together. Easy! Maybe someone is handy.

    Small update.
Doing some interior. Building up the cafe in the rear.

    Dry fitting

Parts are curved. When I soak them they straighten out, but curve again when they dry. Even when I clamp them. Some parts I can straighten by gluing them together and the others are hopefully not too visible when painted and enclosed by roof etc.

Small update. The build is slow as I'm doing a couple of others as well.

    Planking continues:

Some of the frames are spaced extremely far from each other. having problems getting the planks to lay in line between them.
Good thing I've ordered extra filler.

The stand is not wide enough for the finished hull.

I lay a couple of planks every odd day. No hurry since I can't start sanding until spring closes in. -5 degrees C now...
way too cold for outdoor sanding.

Hello boys and girls, time for a little update.

Dreading the planking I thought I'd try doing some small fiddly bits.
    The capstan.

What the manual calls Plexi and what I called plastic turned out to be Plexi actually..
I don't know if it's laser-cut or punched out but there's no spruces or moulding traces or anything. Just a small push and the parts pop out.
    NICE!

Lots of small discs to assemble.

A mix of Plexi and metal.

They might as well had made this part in Plexi since all the teeth had to be filed clean. It also was too thick. The Plexi has more detail.

Looked a little better after painting. I use red ochre.

    Shaft way too long.

Each square on the cutting mat is 5 cm.

I have painted the rest of the capstan but forgot to take a picture of it

The top shaft is also protruding in the wrong direction. Will fix this.
Here you see the original. Some detail is lacking on the model but nothing that bothers me too much. The lack of detail is worst further on in the build.

    Cheers,

I have contemplated to a 32nd scale Royal Caroline in the past - would make a great model...

Today, the Roman Quinquereme was delivered to the couriers in Gloucester, to be shipped to Italy - our home is once again free of any models!

I did design two versions, one for the Republican period (which is how the model is displayed), and an Imperial version (Augustan).

I had to design quite a substantial display base for it, as the oars make the width half a metre!

Hello and a happy new year.

    A small update,

Here is the double frames where the planks will meet in the middle:

I would have prefered to do a overlapping of the planks at the two middle frames but the planks are too short for that.
They are supplied in two lengths with the shorter that fits the rear.

I also missed this problem with the deck and had to break it up again.

    First two planks:

The deck shape does not follow the shape that the planks make at the frames... A lot of heavy sanding and use of woodfiller to come.

I found out that the thin veneer supplied is VERY bristle an breaks very easy. It breaks even when I try to sand it so one has to sand with a light touch and so takes a lot of time...

This is as far as I got yesterday...

Tjenare Alfons, I got the kit from here: MJ-Specialisten it cost me SEK 2530,- and then the light-kit and shipment was included.
In my opinion it's worth the money. (My username should be "PuckoTed" but my fingers slipped.)
I've had a hard time finding pictures and documentation actually. Most of the pics I came across where people drinking beer on board... and travelling through Göteborg city yesterday only made it clear to me that I have no idea where she is...  I'll try next Saturday to locate her again. After work it's already too dark.

    Thank you John...

I had to have another go at the hull again.

And I learnt that no matter how much the plywood criss-crosses it doesn't guarantee a straight bulkhead.

It doesn't show but the slots did not line up so I had to break up the bulkheads again and re-glue them.
Glue never bonds as good as when it's in the wrong place...
But everything is lined up again.

It will be fun making this notch invisible when I paint the hull....
