It looks great to me.  I also recently bought a Rope Rocket, and I have been really happy with it so far.  I agree with Chuck that making the rope is weirdly satisfying, and my wife even found it interesting.

I also agree with the zu Mondfeld book.  It is the book that got me into the hobby after building some simple kits.  I also really like The Art of Ship Modeling by Bernard Frolich.

I have been a bit of the passenger on the site as late, but work on the Washington has continued in fits and starts over the last couple of years.  Construction has picked up nicely as of late, and I think we may just end up with a finished galley at some point

Here is the latest look at work to date.  I have treated a lot of the pear wood as well as the decking with a layer of tung oil.  Decking is holly.  I'm super happy with the look especially on the areas that were coated a year+ ago.  I am planning to leave the gun deck more or less as-is with half of the beams exposed.  I'm still deciding whether or not to add another row or two of planks below the wales.  I have seen models either way, and both look fine.  Next up I will start with the internal planking.

BTW, all of the Vallejo paint on the bench is NOT for the Washington.  It is only used for plastic airplanes

Here I have finished shaping the hawse pieces using a combination of a drum sanding attachment in a Dremel tool and hand sanding.  There is some additional fairing to be done to the cant frame once it is attached to the keel with the other frames.  I didn't want to mess it up for now.

I am using brass wire for the drift bolts.  I though about leaving these out, but I am pretty happy I didn't.  I am going to leave them natural brass color.  This is the back side of the frame, as the drawing is still attached to the front.  The color should pop a bit more as the pear wood darkens over time.

I don't like how the fillers below the first transom turned out, so I am reworking that section and working on the stern timbers now.

Working on installing the wales.  I have the upper two of the four strakes in place.  There are 3 gunports that intersect the wales at the aft end of the ship.  I will cut those in soon as I've come to realize doing things in this order will make it tricky to install the top and bottom sills of the ports (duh).

There is some trimming to do on the sternports as well as the bottom of the port will intersect partway into the moulding.

I need to figure out the camera/lighting so the colors will show better in the pictures.  I was a bit skeptical that Dave included apple for the planking with the timbering set, but it looks awesome with the pear and boxwood.  The wales are rosewood.

Stern counter timbers.  I thought this part might be tricky, and I thought right.  After several do-overs back in business.  Next will be the remaining stern timbers and transoms.
