  1. Hi Kieth, Don't worry about sounding like a critic, I noticed it as well after the final coat , and had the same thought .The thing that sucks is that it is just that one spot. She will sit for today and I will look at it again Tomorrow.( I always let the paint cure for at least a day ) . I will have to fix the white sheer stripe on the port side as well . I am pretty happy with the way she's turning out Best Regards, Pete
  2. Hi David B,. I have had the plans for the Alerion for a long time , I figured it would be a great fall project, I an thinking a 3/4" = 1' - 0" Scale . Thanks Geoff , I have been wanting to build this boat for a while , what can I say I love the Herreshoff Boats Best Regards, Pete
  3. Hi David B. , It's a Gloss Blue , I am happy with the depth in the paint Best Regards, Pete
  4. That's Funny Geoff, I am going to build the BMW Oracle boat with a radio control , so I can sail against the kit boats that everyone around here has ( they are 800 mm almost 31 1/2 ") I will be starting that build in the next day or so. Then I am planning a build of the Herreshoff Alerion ( Cap't Nate's Personal Boat ). Here is what the Alerion looks like ( beautiful Boat ) Best Regards, Pete
  5. Thank you Michael , I am happy with the Color ( it was the closest I could get ) Best Regards, Pete
  6. Thank you Omega, I don't know about a master, It's a constant learning process. I have learned that less is more ( the first 2 coats the hull was still mostly white ) Stars & Stripes was the 87' Challenger , Britton Chance jr Designed an Amazing boat as the lines are angular ( mostly in the bow) , the way they blend into the sheer line is simply amazing. I have not even thought about a business plan , I will still have to ponder that one Best Regards, Pete
  7. In between coats of paint on Stars & Stripes ( wich was an hour in between coats ) I sprayed 2 light coats of primer on America3 ( I waited about 6 hours )and sanded the hull up to 600 grit sand paper . this one has gone together very smoothly , It's been intresting seeing the evolution in America's Cup Boats from the 83' winner ( KA-6 ) to the 92' winner ( usa-23 ) and US-55 in the middle . She is now ready for paint. here are the results
  8. Hi Mark, I am not sure I ever heard that one , but I was a kid at the time and it was all about getting the Cup back, I am pretty happy with this build. It's been alot of fun Best Regards, Pete
  9. Today, I was able to get the Hull Painted. 7 coats,( super light ) sanding with 400 grit in between , I built her a more fitting cradle, I have a little bit of tuch up to do on the white . Here are the results
  10. Thank you Geoff, she will look good after the Hull Is painted Thank you Kieth, Britton Chance jr did an amazing job designing this boat , She has a agressive hull shape (especially the bow section ) . I love the lines of this Boat, its intresting to see the changes in the Boat's from Cup to Cup . The Cockpit and Deck details will bring this build together . Best Regards, Pete
  11. Yesterday , After completing KA-6 , I did the 2 part West System epoxy to the Deck.( I show that process on the A3 build log , the link is in my signature ) This morning I sanded the Deck spayed 2 light coats of primer and 2 coats of semi gloss white,(Sanding with 400 grit in between) I masked the boat so that the White Sheer stripe ( on the Hull ) would all be shot at the same time as the Deck. Next will be to paint the Hull Blue , Then do the Deck Details. Here are the results

  15. Today, was the day to finish up KA-6 "The Boxing Kangaroo" , unfortunatly, I was unable to find any waterslide decal paper, ( I will have to order it online for future projects ) so I went thru my old drafting supplies and found some letraset rub-on letters , I had just enough to put the name on the transom in the small letters and had larger for the cradle , I started by painting the Green stripe on the Hull and then adding the letters that I did have . This will conclude this build log , I will still answer questions and reply to comment's . I want to Thank you all for following along , the comments and the Likes , I thouroghly enjoyed building her , It was alot of fun . Here are the final results
