  1. I tend to agree with Tom but also perhaps is was so the pilot/crew could keep an eye out for a chimney fire?
  2. A couple of things to try. I have a different brand saw but similar. First, apply and buff out well using some car wax to the bed surface. Then remove the foot. I removed mine pretty quick and running at way less than full speed, I usually hold down even smallest of pieces to be cut. Just have to stay alert and watch where the fingers are in relation to the blade. I've found that a slower blade speed gives me more control of the cut and if the blade snags the wood and tries to whip it up and down, less problems occur. Oh...... I make my own inserts for the saw bed. A apiece of wood with appropriate thickness and then drill a small hole just slightly larger than blade size. This also helps prevent things running amok.
  3. I'll take a different stance.... once you have all the plans, enlarge all of them to the new size. Then as needed you can print them out. The reason I suggest enlarging all the downloaded plans is so that a) you get a good overview of everything. b) you won't have missed any while building. Also, there many print/copy shops around that will print out the enlarged plans for you. Lastly, given the way costs go up it might be less expensive to do it now than wait. At least that's my preferences, yours may be different.
  4. I did a quick look at his profile. Last time on was Tuesday. He's on the east coast of Florida so he might dealing with some storm damage.
  5. One can always take pans to a copy center and have them enlarged as needed. Also there are Harold Hahn plans available. I'm sure who's selling them at this point. They too will need enlarging.
  6. Hmmm.... distinct advantages to using a 1 gallon wine bottle. Mostly the wine probably in addition to more room inside for the models and also the larger mouth. The only question is "white" or "red" for the liquid contents. So the "choose wisely" meme works for this.
  7. Just fantastic, Yves. Thanks for letting us follow along on this journey.
  8. Please use Google Translate or another transtator to post here in English. We are an English language website. Thank you.
  9. There is a catch using the height of the guns as a reference. IMO. It would depend on if the guns were one pedestals (and long those were) or just mounted to the gunwale. I have deep appreciation for your research and wanting accuracy. I also realize that given the time frame of the ship, accuracy is something just a "best guess".
  10. That's a bit of bummer, Phil. I'm assuming supply side issues which seem to hitting at this point. So at least you didn't dive too deep into their site. Better for the budget. I didn't know Dremel made one.... that's good to know
  11. You might check Micro-Mark. It's been a long time since i've visited their site but they did have some. Two types as I recall... one a single-blade and another that used two blades.
  12. I'm sorry to hear this news, Grant. I hope you can resettled with a minimum of hassle. These things are no fun at all.
  13. Chris, have you had a look in the kit area for builds of this ship and see what they have done? Many builders do bash the kits for rigging, deck fixtures, etc.
  14. If I remember right from my school days back in the dark ages, the answer to most of those questions would have "strawberries don't have bones.".
