Omega1234 got a reaction from mtaylor in Majellan by Omega1234 - FINISHED - 1/200 - Luxury 37 m Motor Yacht - Miniature
Hi Piet
No worries! I can assure you that there'll be more than a few cushions scattered around the ship, including the Sun Deck area. There will also be some large umbrellas on the aft of the Sun Deck; just to give a hint of what it'd be like to sit back and relax on a nice tropical cruise while the crew toil away to make the guests happy.
Cheers and all the best!

Omega1234 got a reaction from mtaylor in Majellan by Omega1234 - FINISHED - 1/200 - Luxury 37 m Motor Yacht - Miniature
Hi Greg
Many thanks! I can't promise about the bubbles, but I can always try....
With respect to the stern door, yep, you're right because it's designed to be lowered to water level, thereby enabling the jet skis and tender to be launched and recovered.
Hope this helps.
Cheers

Hi Pete. Cheers and many thanks!
Hi BDGiantman Thanks for your comments. Greatly appreciated!
Hi Mark Thanks and I really appreciate your comments!
Hi Elijah. Thanks for your comments and yep, I've designed each deck to be completely removable so that the interior can be viewed. I'd hate to have put all the work into the interior, without it being able to be enjoyed. Thanks once again.
Cheers

Omega1234 got a reaction from BenF89 in Majellan by Omega1234 - FINISHED - 1/200 - Luxury 37 m Motor Yacht - Miniature
HI everyone
Many thanks for your comments and Likes. Greatly appreciated.
Here's my latest update: I've managed to paint the starboard engine and other associated details in the engine room. The jet skis and the ship's RIB tender have also received a second coat of paint with a new and better quality paint brush. The difference is much better than before, I must say.
Also, at the stern of the ship, I've started on the port and starboard stairs which lead from the main deck down to the diving platform. Still lots of cleaning up to do, of course.
Lastly, on the Sun Deck, I've put together the spa (which is the funny round thing) and a short series of steps for guests to use in order to climb from the deck into it.
Lots and lots of details, as well as filling, puttying and sanding to go, but it's fun and satisfying work, none the less.
All the best!
Cheers

Omega1234 reacted to Mirabell61 in SS Kaiser Wilhelm der Grosse 1897 by Mirabell61 - FINISHED - scale 1:144 - POF - first German four stacker of the Norddeutscher Lloyd line
Update
Build log part 31
( starting /making the winches, scale 1:144)
the winches will basicly be made of brass, the body framework is from stock 12 x 12 x1 mm squaretube. I have given up the idea of using real mini-toothwheels, and will use discs resembling the different toothwheel diameters instead.
On the slow spool shaft there will be the winding-line drum the brake drum and two spool cones outside the frame. The fast shaft will bear two spool cones as well.
The drive will be by two steam cylinders and crosshead, with crankshaft connection to the wheels outside on the "crankshaft"
Nils
this diagram comprises the main basic parts of the steam winch (there will be 6 in total)
frame with mounted large drum and brakewheel
12 x 12 x 1 mm brass squaretube and scale figure for size relation

Omega1234 reacted to NenadM in Cutty Sark by NenadM
So, keep on playing Nenad ... You need it when you find yourself as complete idiot ... When winter comes, I close wather vents in homeyard, this year spring comes earlier, and I opened them, but forgot to close safety vent ... 50m3 of water go into land every month ... Bad - month bill will be astronomic. Good - I was thinking that pipe breaked, and that I have to dig 1m deep to find broken pipe, but it is not
So, stearing wheel, attempt No 1
Method used ... Someting between...
Following photos step by step until half-product
Fine tuning tomorrow

Omega1234 reacted to Gerhardvienna in Cutty Sark by NenadM
Hi Nenad
Just a bit rough, but a good first attempt. I know from your former builds, you can do that much better. Try to turn the spokes, if you dont have a lathe, you can use a drilling machine, fixed to your workbench. This brass spokes will not fit to what you can build, use toothpicks as you have shown earlier, and grind the careful to recommended size.
Good Luck, have sucesss!
Regards
Gerhard

Catching up on your progress Nenad. Very nice looking pinrails. Steering wheel, hmmm - - - not easy but you'll get it. Suggest using Gerhard's suggestions, seems to be the easiest way to do it. Wooden spokes will also look more authentic.
Good luck, I know that with your perseverance you'll make a very nice wheel.
Cheers,

George, Piet, and Greg.... thanks for your visit as always.
Looks like I'll be fitting those tricky little bulwarks today so I can get on with some more sculpting and carving.
Real anxious to see her with a dressed up beak.

Omega1234 reacted to Walter Biles in Meridea by Walter Biles - RADIO - 34" CAD of boat at USN Severn River Repair Station c. 1969
Thank you Michael,
Your comment about just getting something started sounded quite true. It helped me get started again. A step at a time.
I am slowly building my enthusiasm again. The more sorting things out of the mess, the closer it looks to do-able.

Omega1234 reacted to pete48 in Buzzards Bay 14 by pete48 - FINISHED - 3/4" = 1' scale - SMALL - L.F. Herreshoff design
Today, I started by sanding the Coamings, starting with 400 grit sandpaper and working my way up to 800 grit sandpaper. I then applied the third coat of varnish. IWith 4 coats of varnish on the Mast and Boom, I turned my attention to finishing the Mast by painting the Masthead and Spreaders white. Next will be to finish the Cockpit coamings and start making the Sails. Here are the results

I like the white trim on the mast, Pete. She's really going to look 'the bees knees' when she's finished.

I like how you made the staircase myself. May have to try your technique on my models. Keep up the great work, Dennis!

Omega1234 reacted to Piet in SS Kaiser Wilhelm der Grosse 1897 by Mirabell61 - FINISHED - scale 1:144 - POF - first German four stacker of the Norddeutscher Lloyd line
Yes, your prototype does look good. Narrower planks may be better for scale but they may just disappear when looking at it on the model. Eye appeal seems a better choice in this case. Sometimes scale get's in the way in our efforts to replicate the real thing too much. I like the way you think.
Cheers,

Omega1234 reacted to Mirabell61 in SS Kaiser Wilhelm der Grosse 1897 by Mirabell61 - FINISHED - scale 1:144 - POF - first German four stacker of the Norddeutscher Lloyd line
thank you very much Piet,
yes, for the scale there has to be a sacrifice in detail and a compromise in optic now and then (if one is not a profi builder), I see this with the intended winch toothwheels, that I thought could be arranged functional, but have to give up this now for exactly that reason..... The two steam cylinders per winch cross-head driven cam rods are creating the same problems.... It worked out on the 1:96 "Heinrich Kayser steamship" winches, but that was fiddely enough.

Omega1234 reacted to captainbob in USCG Pequot (WARC-58) by captainbob - FINISHED - 1:96
We all live by the saying, “measure twice and cut once”. That should also go for research. Back on entry #117 I built the wheelhouse and thought it was good, and many of you agreed. Then more research. I found a picture of the Pequot showing paneling on the structures on the upper deck. After trying three or four methods of paneling I finally think I figured out how. Then I took these pictures. UUGH! I should be able to clean it up some, besides as everyone says, “pictures look worse than the real thing”. Anyway, here are the pictures.
