I have just stumbled upon this log. This is something very new and different.  Your doing a great job.
I don't know about using balsa for the planking but, Prehaps some thin walnut strips? Something with not much grain showing.
Also I'm not sure how glue would adhear to the clay. Unless you use CA?I've honestly never attempted to do this. All the best and glad you returned.

It is looking better. I know it is tempting to show the nails boldly. However, if you look at the holes in the photos, the diameter is probably ¼". While the nail heads would be larger,  if you round up to ½" diameter that would still only be about 0.2mm or 0.006" at your scale so subtlety would be the desired effect. Seeing enough to know they are there without them shouting at you.

gotta say Kees...........you've outdone yourself!   your fleet is looking too good for words!   the paint work........the fittings.....the detail.......there's so much to see    they're not done......I know,  but a big congratz for what you've achieved!

Popeye...I was reading back in the Glory of the Seas log and found my own words that I wanted to finish the Glory before I begin the Great Republic.  I got the plans and was intrigued to copy the frame plates....then what would a cut frame look like?.....and so on and so on.  And before I knew it...(In one day) I had copied and cut out all the bulkheads....cut the keel and placed all the bulkheads and internal supports...and was ready for planking
So...one fabrication led to another....Oh, and looking forward, I had to make my own copper plates and the machine to make them...and so forth and so on.....
All the while, forgetting my promise to myself to finish the Glory of the Seas first.

That brings me to where I am thustly.
I'm almost at the same place with both vessels at this point...and jumping ship now is a good time..plus the change of pace will bring much needed enthusiasm and a break.

don't feel bad Rob.......I'm one of the originals    if I get tired of what I'm working on at the moment.....I just open my closet and pull out another hull.   I'm somewhat of a compulsive person....can't keep an idea in my head for too long.......it eats me alive!       I have other builds and ideas I'd like to get started,  but now I can't till I clear out some of these lingering projects.

look at the bright side........we always have something to do

    Hi folks!

Thanks for all of your Likes and comments!

Well, she's getting there, albeit slowly.  It may not actually look like there's been a lot done since my last update, but a lot of the work has been devoted to building more cabins and a myriad of other fine measurements and trimming of bits and pieces here and there.

Anyhow, I thought you may like to see where she's at via the following photos.

    Have a good week!

Finally got time to catch up!  Man she's looking great.  The paints certainly threw up some challenges, but, you've overcome them admirably.

    Lovely stuff!

    Hi folks

A quick update for you all - Shadow's interior accommodation continues to grow, albeit slowly.  So far, I've been concentrating on building the layout of all the cabins located within the Bilge, Lower and Main decks.  Getting these in the correct locations is vital, otherwise, the various staircases connecting the decks would be askew.  Trust me, that would not be a good look!

Oh well, there's still heaps of fun to go.

    Have a great week, everyone!

    Cheers

Hi all, I finally got a little more done.  The deck is planked, the front and rear walls to the main cabin are up and I finished the little deck house, which was the smoking lounge, it was removed when that deck was enclosed.
