Hi Patrick,
you`re surely becoming to be a specialist for interlocking removeable sections on a model. A professional modelmaker company for extrusion dye formed resin section part kits could not have done it better, Great model and super work, Bravo !!

Hi everyone!
Thanks for your comments and Likes. Greatly appreciated.
Well.....she FLOATS!!!!! Who would've thunk it, hey? After doing some more wet and dry sanding and painting of the hull and superstructure last night, I thought I'd see if Shadow actually floats. So, off I went to one of our garden ponds and, well, I'll let the pictures say the rest...
Enjoy
Cheers

Thank you very much Patrick and John (Neptune),
and thanks to all the "likes"
Patrick.
a very kind compliment, much appreciated, glad you like it...
John,
thanks so much for your nice words, and for your catch up....
I`ve put on the aft portion of the boats deck now on permanently and it worked out fine. Of course something came to eye after mounting it and clamping it down, I noticed that two of the benches below on the promenade deck were just mounted in the way/ space where the upward stairs should be placed, and four of the holes for the downward vent tubes had been planked-over on the boats deck and forgotten to be cut free again, but both little misfits can easily be put right again.

Hi Nils
I'm just catching up on your KWDG. Wow, wow and triple wow!
I tell you what, every time I say that I can't do something, I'll look at your KWDG for inspiration. That's enough to teach me that anything's possible and that if you strive to do your best, anything's possible.
Inspirational.
Cheers

thanks. Charlie sits as shown in the last posting patiently waiting for me to get back to her. I have a another two months of intense work on Bluenose and then will start splitting my time to include more progress on both as well as a few other projects. I want to get past making sawdust and into rigging so i can do a good pre winter clean up. I also want to continue to get better making fittings, so I can fix a few weak points on Charlie
cheers

Yet another hiatus from the model, this time it was to rebuild a 1:1 hatch into a ventilating one. It's no lightweight, but neither is the boat.
I've been working on the capping pieces that trim off the topsides besides the cockpit. Visually incredibly important for this boat, so it's nice to have completed one side.
Some of the timber has some shellac on it, & the raised deck step has some more pieces done or underway - storm boards & the vertical frames either side.
thanks, Mark

A very impressive build, particularly from card.
Such a strange stern the fluits had.

Looking at the last pictures, one would never know this isn't wood. I like the lines, Obviously a large hold for the cargo which gives an interesting shape to the rest of the hull, especially at the stern.

Thanks Mike. I didn't have any experience with making tiny belaying pins either, but Ed Tosti's posts on how he made them for Young America were very helpful and showed the way.

Great work on the belaying pins Frank. I am both dreading and looking forward to the metal working as I have no experience with making these small metal items, but your little tutorial here on the nice little spider band is very helpful.

Hi Jack
That's a good question.
I would think you could use a Dremel router setup to make similar jigs, as long as you're able to mill straight lines and can be sure to make perpendicular cuts when needed. I would think that even small chisels could be used if the jig is wood.
Since I'm using the mill, the depth of the cut is controlled by the z-axis hand wheel. With the Dremel setup I would think that it's just a question of making shallow cuts and measuring the depth after each cut until you reach the depth you want.
As far as the use of Corian - I use that primarily for jigs for soldering. I also make jigs from wood and aluminum flat stock. I use wood when there's no danger of the wood glue making the piece stick to the jig, although this problem could probably be avoided by first putting a coat of poly or some other finish on the jig that would inhibit the glue from adhering to the jig.
Hope this helps.

Frank, I notice you are using a milling machine to mill your jigs in Corian. For those of us not fortunate enough to own a mill, do you have any suggestions on how we can duplicate your fine jigs? Will a Dremel with its router attachment and a straight edge guide achieve the same results? Thanks.

Thanks Gary. This build has been quite a learning experience for me, and my hope is that I'm helping some other modelers by documenting the ups and downs along the way.
Thanks Rich! Enjoy the show today - hope to see you there.

Hello Frank
I've read your build log from the beginning and it has been both instructive and inspiring. Thanks for the extra effort it takes to produce a log of this detail. Nice.
